Tangent, but it seems like such a tough engineering challenge to keep all these models around and available at an instant
felixvolny··on U.S. government seeks Facebook help to wiretap Messenger
One is a consumer’s answer, the other one is a creator’s answer.

Makes sense, as these are the respective target audiences of the two communities.

felixvolny··on How Harry's Bought a German Razor Factory
Yes, you always have to dry your razor after use. Disposable or not, the hour or so it needs to dry is actually enough for razor blades to noticeably loose their edge. This is part of what makes razor blade manufacture hard - you have to use very hard steel that can hold an edge, but the harder the steel the more prone it is to oxidation aka rust.
felixvolny··on A Startup That Wants to Cure Social Anxiety
Try the "Take the Quiz" button on the front page. After you make it through 15 questions an email field pops up. No email - no results.

felixvolny··on Flux Comparison by Example
To be fair, the word 'reflux' does have significant meaning outside the context of gastrointestinal disease. I agree some people might have unpleasant associations to the word, but for me this is the first thing that comes to mind: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reflux
felixvolny··on Suspended jaccuzzi
I'm from Europe and this is news to me. The caucasus isn't in Europe, you know?
felixvolny··on Announcing Reddit notes
Well it's missing the crypto part of cryptocurrency, but I agree it's pretty obvious that they are planning for this to be some sort of site-wide currency. My guess is they saw Dogecoin and the tipping culture it created, and they now want to own that aspect of the Reddit community.
felixvolny··on Final – A credit card built for the 21st century
Am I really the only one to notice it says "Enter your emaill address"?

felixvolny··on The rise of OpenStreetMap: A quest to conquer Google’s mapping empire
Just as a sidenote - this is not a remote area, this is Vienna, the second biggest city in the German-speaking world. That being said it is strange that Google doesn't have more data on it

felixvolny··on Passive Income Hacker vs Startup Guy
Quit.
felixvolny··on [dead]
I would be more useful if someone made a sticker of some sort that allows you to cover the camera when you don't need it, and pull off easily when you do. Maybe a little magnet would do the trick.
felixvolny··on OVH launches 2.99€/mo dedicated servers (2G RAM, 500G disk)
I wonder how one of these Atom powered servers compares to a free EC2 T1-micro instance. This is kind of apples and oranges , since this is a dedicated server, but I'm not sure if you'd really get a lot more out of them.
