felipesabino··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (October 2025)
Interesting, I has a similar idea for this problem of being overwhelmed with sources and the need to go into each submission and its comments.

But I went in a different direction, it is a mix of RSS reader with summarization. https://rss.sabino.me/

It is open source, and hosted for free on github pages, so you can customize the feeds and reddit communities.

There is also a configuration ready to use the locall llama from github build system, so you dont have to rely on paying for AI services

felipesabino··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (May 2025)
I decided to try the AI train and develop something without actually writing any line of code.

The result was very satisfying, https://rss.sabino.me - a rss new aggregator, with a summary to save some time on news that I do not want to read, but am mildly interested.

I will not say the same about the code quality tough

felipesabino··on Brutalist Report Knock-Off
I really like the idea behind the brutalist report [1], mostly related to their claim of "headlines delivered without bullshit".

But I wanted even less interaction with most websites, as most of the headlines are related to something I am just mildly interested on, to the point of wanting to know more, but not interested enough to the point I feel like committing to reading the whole thing before knowing a bit more what it is about.

Anyway, I build this thing that parses the RSS feeds and do all summaries locally through ollama or whatever other OpenAI API compatible llm platform you have (e.g. LM Studio), and auto updates automatically twice a day through GitHub action scheduler

And it is open sourced at https://github.com/felipesabino/rss

felipesabino··on 100% Unemployment: on keeping busy when the robots take over (2013)
Interesting that two complete opposite views are in the first page today. The other one being "AI isn't going to kill the software industry" https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42810175
felipesabino··on Autocorrect in Your Keyboard Firmware (2021)
I wonder if ideas from the embedded steno community [1] [2] could not be used, as this type of chording/key stroke replacement is the basis of how it works.

felipesabino··on The Data Visualisation Catalogue: find the right method for your data
What would you recommend for a series of events over time, where events can also link to other events?

Similar to a graph of nodes with a time component.

I have been scratching my head around this visualization problem it has been some time, and still haven’t found anything that would be applicable

felipesabino··on Experimental web browser optimized for rabbit-holing
As I mentioned, it is a research project, so I would not expect production ready code or multi-browser support. They are indeed not supporting the old version, as they are rewriting almost everything from scratch.

Last time I had contact with them, they were exploring using Plasmo [1] as building block for the extension, instead of doing everything vanilla as they did in the 1st version, which would offer cross-browser support out of the box.

But meanwhile, you can check the code [2] and add the FF manifest yourself to try it out.

felipesabino··on Experimental web browser optimized for rabbit-holing
This is pretty neat!

And I strongly suggest that you contact Kay Xu <Kai.Xu@nottingham.ac.uk>, who is doing research on sensemaking [1] [2] and berrypicking [3], I think he is currently working on newer and better version of his approach with browser extensions (as opposed to a separate renderer), and you both would benefit from collaboration.

felipesabino··on Ask HN: How to fix Crowdstrike BSOD without admin access?
I can’t even `cd` into the folder, due to permissions
felipesabino··on CrowdStrike Update: Windows Bluescreen and Boot Loops
Does anyone know how to proceed if I do not have administrator level access to the computer?

I do not have access to c:\windows\system32\drivers\crowdstrike folder to delete the corrupted .sys file

I was able to boot on recovery mode with network, after waiting 30 min, I rebooted and BSOD persisted.

Are there other alternatives on how to recover?

felipesabino··on Dad Jokes on Demand
I just found out that the same author has an api if anyone here is looking for a server side joke alternative :p https://us-central1-dadjokeapi.cloudfunctions.net/getRandomJ...
felipesabino··on Dad Jokes on Demand
it seems you can just read all jokes at once via https://dadjokes736.onrender.com/jokes.json

The client side js code just picks up one in the list at random.

Also, looking at the js code, you can get the html to print a fixed joke by referencing the key in the json object on an "index" query param, ex: https://dadjokes736.onrender.com/?index=7

felipesabino··on Ask HN: Books you read in 2023 and recommend for 2024?
The entire "Murderbot" series by Martha Wells is amazing, the writing style, humor and the whole story line is a must-read for sci-fi fans

The "Silo" series by Hugh Howey is excellent, I read it after watching the TV series from Amazon, and no regrets.

"Recursion" and "Dark Matter" by Blake Crouch is also really great

felipesabino··on Show HN: Bedframe – open-source Browser Extension Development framework
I just recently came across Plasmo [1], which is very mature and a good entry point for anyone starting on the browser extension environment (like I am). It would be nice to see some comparisons in the future when Bedframe's docs are published

felipesabino··on English is a pictographic language with 26 radicals
I think this is what the Phonetically Intuitive English (PIE) [0] tries to mitigate (not solve) by showing diacritics on normal English words to make their pronunciation more clear

felipesabino··on Ask HN: Anyone Building a Competitor to Reddit?
There are many reddit alternatives, there is even a subreddit for that [1] :p

The problem is not the tech, the problem is community, or even better, the network effect. It is the same discussion people were having when twitter musk downfall started.

NPR did a good peace on it discussing why these platforms are so hard to be replaced, it is a good read/listen [2]

felipesabino··on Building the coordinate system for an infinite spreadsheet
I am glad they started brainstorming how to implement my suggestions for named cells and named ranges [1]. Having complex spreadsheets than span through infinite will be unmaintainable relying only on coordinates

felipesabino··on Paper Airplane Designs
"Walkalong Glider", uow, I didn't even know the term to look for, thanks!
felipesabino··on Paper Airplane Designs
It has been a while that I try to find the design for this type of paper plane [1] that glides so smoothly and allows you to guide it.

I am not even sure how to search for it, even with this database in hands

felipesabino··on Meta AI announces Massive Multilingual Speech code, models for 1000+ languages

felipesabino··on Open-LLMs – A List of LLMs for Commercial Use
I think I was not very clear, I was talking about self-hosting
felipesabino··on Open-LLMs – A List of LLMs for Commercial Use
As a newcomer to the area and a noob in most things ML, one think that I still have a hard time evaluating is the minimal type of hardware to run these LLMs either locally or at scale.

I often see a lot of detail on how the models were trained but do not see much information on what is needed to actually run it. I found some information on /r/LocalLLaMA/ but it still very sparse.

Anyone has tips on how to figure this out besides actually running them (and needing to spend $$)?

felipesabino··on Anxious dogs, like anxious people, need help managing and reducing distress
This is very coincidental with PJ Vogt new podcast "Search Engine", they released a preview episode in the last days titled "How Sad Are Monkeys In The Zoo" [1] that tackles this problem of animal emotions. I was very surprised to learn that most animals in Zoos are on constant anti-depression and anti-anxiety prescriptions.

felipesabino··on How to design software architecture for startups
> Splitting your codebase into multiple independent services comes with a lot of disadvantages: Each service has to be maintained and deployed and increases the boilerplate needed for shared data structures

I think the author got "separate and isolated services" with "separate and isolated source code", they are not the same

felipesabino··on As an AI Language Model
Results for "Regenerate Response" are also very funny, example:

And they are even funnier in LinkedIn:

felipesabino··on Human or Not? A Social Turing Game
