The city center had restricted access for about a week and is completely inaccessible for 2-3 days, which sucks for the people that live and work there, but it's a far cry from the `several weeks` you mentioned. I think folks are blowing the impact of the opening ceremony way out of proportion.
At the end of the day, both parties benefit: Youtube won't have to serve me videos for free and I'll gain back a bunch of free time.

Maybe that was true in previous years, but I have found it very comforting to know that I'm almost unfirable (specially compared to my US peers), and even if I do get laid off I still have a ~12 month runway provided by the government.
I wish it would let me select some other cities the bus passes through, since as another commenter said it just uses the quickest way by car - though I guess that would not impact the seat selection too much, since the general direction of travel is still the same!

The subreddit I moderate (100k subs) saw no lasting impact on traffic. We participated in the blackout for 2 or 3 days and then carried on as normal.
To be fair, it is a sub for a TV show, so the traffic is very seasonal. The blackout happened in the off-season, and now that the show is back we have a lot of traffic again.

If anyone wants to pick it up, my main advice is to keep a cheat sheet of naval terms with you
It's been great so far! It has a lot of complexity and physicality, which I enjoy.
