I have pretty much the same setup. The only thing that bothers me with navidrome+feishin is that gapless playback is not working perfectly.

Also, a great resource for discovering new music is the public library. They often have a curated CD section that I then rip into FLAC. I've had great chats with the people in my town's library, and I often pick a totally random CD off the shelves and discover some amazing artists.

English is not my native tongue. If I had a relaxed mode, that'd be awesome :)
fbnlsr··on My Steam Machine is a 50ft HDMI cable
> Can't people see any usecase for the steam machine?

The only problem with the Steam Machine is the price tbh, and that's mainly Valve having a really bad luck with timing once again.

Having a custom-made "Steam Machine" for the past 3 years thanks to ChimeraOS, it really changed the way I play for the better. I can play on my couch with my son and wife, and it made my wife (who wasn't really into gaming) buy a Steam Deck and enjoy my 500+ library instantly.

Now, I can play CS2 in my office, my son can play Astroneer in the living room and my wife The Witcher 3 next to him. The Steam ecosystem is simply amazing, it's a real shame Valve had to launch their machine during a worldwide component crisis.

fbnlsr··on I'm Tired of Talking to AI
This has been my experience as well.

- Claude writes User Stories, supervised by the PO.

- Claude is in charge of the implementation, supervised by the devs.

- Claude does the PR review.

- If a comment is made by a human, someone c/p what Claude thinks with a simple "not sure if AI is right".

We're just passing butter at this point.

fbnlsr··on Search engines alternatives now that Google isn't Google anymore
I usually switch between DuckDuckGo and Startpage. Both are good.
fbnlsr··on GitHub Compromised
I really need to find the time to properly test Zed. I'm mainly using PHP Storm and I love what it can do, especially when it comes to code discovery and auto-completion. I'm not a huge fan of having a bloated toolbox, I never use PHP Storm's included terminal or database browser.

Zed was super impressive when I first started it, but I don't know yet how it compares with PHP Storm.

I bought a used laptop with the help of ChatGPT last month and was amazed. It helped me narrow the model that suited my needs based on my prompts. I needed to renew my old Thinkpad T480. It also helped me find an ad and negociate with the seller.

I ended up with a T14 Gen 4 and I'm super happy with it.

fbnlsr··on GitHub issues is almost the best notebook in the world
I switch between VS Code and MarkText. It does the job perfectly.
fbnlsr··on GitHub issues is almost the best notebook in the world
I thought it would be a problem as well but it turns out I absolutely never edit my notes on two machines at once. The commit/push/pull is done via a simple bash script that I'm running as a build command inside VS Code.
fbnlsr··on GitHub issues is almost the best notebook in the world
Like many I've been looking for the best note-taking app for years. And somehow I always come back to a bunch of markdown files inside a Git repo.
fbnlsr··on Testing DVD-R and CD-R 25 years later: optical disks from Japan
I personally use a hard drive in my house, and a cold storage solution (Glacier) from a reputable provider.
fbnlsr··on Testing DVD-R and CD-R 25 years later: optical disks from Japan
Yeah disc rot is a real problem. CD/DVD-R are great when it comes to physically store drives (they don't take much space on a shelf and are easely sent via mail) but I'd rather use a hard drive and the cloud for my backups now.
fbnlsr··on Testing DVD-R and CD-R 25 years later: optical disks from Japan
As others said, the only thing you should be looking for is a drive that works with Accuraterip. Ripping discs from my local library is a hobby of mine and I've discovered so much music from there. I still buy CDs from thrift shops and the occasional garage sale, but having my music collection neatly organized and ripped/verified in FLAC is something I enjoy a lot.
fbnlsr··on Ask HN: Is anyone else picky about which monospace font(s) you use?
I'm in a never-ending cycle of wanting to find a better monospace font, spending countless hours looking through various alternatives and coming back to the one I'm currently using.

After using Ubuntu Mono for many many years I've switched to IBM Plex Mono and basically can't find a better font for me. At this point it's like my eyes are so used to this font I could never use anything else, despite the fact that my brain wants to try something new. So it's my default choice for any monospace font that I can set up.

fbnlsr··on YouTube's New Hue
This is amazing. I wonder how much that document cost to produce.

The "Gravitational Pull of Pepsi" blew my mind.

fbnlsr··on Why blog if nobody reads it?
Writing a blog is always rewarding, but it's a difficult exercise, especially if one's writing in another language. Not only do you have some proficiency in writing fluid sentences and paragraphs, it's sometimes taxing to formulate something in a language that's not your mother tongue.

I'm curious if people around here have tips on diminishing friction and how to write better/more easily.

fbnlsr··on GarminDB
I'm a Garmin user as I find the hardware to be very reliable but the market is in deep need of an Open Source alternative.

Let's not forget Garmin was victim of a ransomware attack in 2020 and they finally paid $10 million after days of blackout and they never really addressed the issue.

fbnlsr··on Ross Ulbricht granted a full pardon
This might be a minor thing, but does anyone know if a full pardon will allow him to use an electronic device or access the internet? Often times, people convicted of crimes related to an online activity are forbidden this right, and I wonder if that's the case for him, and if so, what his life would be in this day and age.
fbnlsr··on Microsoft Confirms Password Deletion for 1B Users
The problem with passkey is that it's obscure for the common folk.

I'm a developer, yet for some odd reason I'm having a hard time understanding passkeys. Are they synced between devices? Do I need to set up a passkey per device? What happens if I have a single passkey on my phone and it gets lost? Do I lose access to that service?

So many questions that need a clear and concise answer.

fbnlsr··on My simple knowledge management and time tracking system
I like the idea of a stream of knowledge in one file, I usually used the Saved Messages in Telegram for that.

I'd rather use Markdown though, for the formatting capabilities alone.

fbnlsr··on WordPress retaliation impacts community
I'm probably wrong here, but my tinfoil hat take is that Matt has seen how well Taylor Otwell is doing with Laravel and he wants a piece of that cake. Granted they're doing pretty good with wordpress.com hosting, but they'd have so much more money if they licenced plugins and features the way Laravel does.
fbnlsr··on 9 years of Apple text editor solo dev
Looks really nice. Just a heads-up, I get a NS_BINDING_ABORTED error on the home page video, so I can't see it. (Firefox 121.0, Linux).
fbnlsr··on What is the Demoscene? An interview
I used to be part of the music scene back in '95 and it basically changed my life. I'm so proud to have a presence somewhere in the dark corners of the scene.org FTP.
fbnlsr··on Omnivore – free, open source, read-it-later App
That logo has some strong Masterchef vibes.
fbnlsr··on 50TB IBM tape drive more than doubles LTO-9 capacity
This is what I personally do. I have small needs when it comes to backups (< 1TB), so I have one backup that's just a regular HDD stored in a drawer, and another one that's on a Scaleway cold storage container.
fbnlsr··on Why Tailwind CSS Won
I don't get Tailwind. In my book, CSS is here to facilitate the style of multiple webpages by modifying a set of rules, and classes are here to mutualise said rules.

With Tailwind, it looks like you design by writing HTML, which is the opposite of what CSS aims at. So if you wish to change your design, you'll have to update multiple templates instead of one CSS rule.

Every time I've had to work with Tailwind, it felt like a chore and it was an unpleasant experience.

fbnlsr··on Noclip.website: A digital museum of video game levels
Looking at FEZ levels instantly made me want to see if there was something hidden in the levels' names. I've yet to finish it, and boy is this game amazing.
fbnlsr··on Grav is a modern open-source flat-file CMS
I've had the pleasure to build a small website with Kirby and it was such a joy to use as a developer. The only problem I faced was with my client as he was used to Wordpress and making the transition to Kirby was a bit rough for him.
fbnlsr··on Joplin – An open-source note taking and to-do application with synchronisation
> Just give me an app that can handle nicely markdown files

You know what does that well? The filesystem.

I've tested pretty much all note-taking software out there. What ended up working for me is a bunch of markdown files inside folders, synced using Github.

I have search, formatting and preview thanks to VSCode, and I can access my notes on any machine that syncs with Github.
