fbnlsr··on Lubuntu is taking a new direction
Thanks for that comment. I've tried using Ubuntu inside VirtualBox on my brand new i7-8700 / 16 GB RAM computer and it's far from being smooth. I'll give Xubuntu a try.
fbnlsr··on Why I’m Using a Flip Phone
Woah, considering the "exploration" aspect of BoTW, this makes me want to play this game even more.
fbnlsr··on Losing 100 pounds in 276 days
That sounds amazing. Too bad the nearest center is 500km away :(
fbnlsr··on Losing 100 pounds in 276 days
I've been struggling with weight problems and my self-image for as long as I can remember. I've tried the Dukan diet ten years ago, which was a total disaster. At my heaviest I was 84kg for 174cm. That's a BMI of 27.

Two years ago, I had a minor motorcycle crash, and at the hospital the doctor was scared about my heart rate. It was fast and it was loud, around 100 bpm at rest. I always had a heart with a fast beat so I didn't really care about it. Then, my son was born. At that moment I decided that I needed to take care of myself and started going to the gym. Alas, being a new parent takes a lot of time and energy, and I had to cancel my membership last year.

So I've been experimenting with intermittent fasting since then, and it's been the best thing I've done in a long time.

I started doing the usual "16/8", that is fast for 16 hours and eat during the following 8 hours window. Basically it meant skipping breakfast and having lunch at around 1pm, which is extremely easy to do.

The past two months, I cranked the notch a bit and I've been doing OMAD (One Meal A Day). I eat from 7pm to 9pm and the rest of the time I only drink water or black coffee. It just changed my life.

In the past two months I've lost 9kg, so now I'm at 73kg, and I've never felt so good in my life.

My mind feels sharper throughout the day, and I've developed a completely different relationship with food. I now consider it to be fuel, and I've started thinking about the quality of fuel I'm putting in my body. So now I cook and I try to chose good meat and vegetables, and I'm trying to cut on sugar and pasta. I still eat lunch sometimes (when I'm visiting my parents or I'm having lunch with a client) but I don't really care as I know that my weight is going to regulate itself in the few following days.

And my heart rate is now normal. At rest, it's beating at around 65 bpm.

If anyone's interested, I highly recommend watching Jason Fung on Youtube. His talks about fasting have been an eye opener for me. His approach on obesity through hormonal regulation is amazing.

fbnlsr··on Hyper 2, Electron based terminal
I've been using VSCode for years and it's been great, but I'm always looking for learning something new. I keep reading about Vim and last time I checked it seems SO complicated to use. I don't understand how it's so popular. Is it because it's blazing fast?
fbnlsr··on To Change Habits, Try Replacement Instead
This book was a revelation to me. I remember my last cigarette like it was yesterday, and I truly enjoyed it. I haven't smoked in 11 years, and it's thanks to this book. It took me three years to stop dreaming about smoking though, and I know I'm not an "ex-smoker". Being aware of that is the strongest part of the deal. I know that I could smoke again with so much ease that I refuse to even touch a cigarette. In the end, it's the best thing I've ever done in my life, and that book helped me so much.
fbnlsr··on Ask HN: Remote workers, how do you show your work?
What do you use to generate them?
fbnlsr··on There Is Only One Cloud Icon (2011)
Isn't it different because the RSS, Wi-Fi and Shutdown icon have been designed to represent a protocol and/or system?

The iCloud "cloud" icon was designed to represent a product, which implies other products could/should have found something else.

fbnlsr··on MedleyText
I really don't see the problem with either of those. I spend 8+ hours a day in VSCode and it works flawlessly.

I just spent more than three hours with a friend on Discord playing The Division and it was smooth as it can be.

It's kind of become the norm to hate on Electron apps, but to be fair, I don't see the point.

fbnlsr··on UFO Existence 'Proven Beyond Reasonable Doubt': Former Head Of Pentagon Program
> Much the same way we study great apes or dolphins.

Unfortunately, humans are known to study other species by locking them in cages and cutting them open. :(

fbnlsr··on Don't Buy Anyone an Echo
That article read like a Linkedin post.
fbnlsr··on Yelp Wi-Fi
Yeah, thanks Free.

I'm now rocking an unlimited calls and texts with 20GB 4G data plan on SFR for 12 € / month. Without Free, I'm pretty sure that plan would cost me around 100 €.

fbnlsr··on A stolen painting appears for sale on the dark web
That's a great explanation. Thanks a lot for that. :)
fbnlsr··on A stolen painting appears for sale on the dark web
I'm not very familiar with the inner parts of the system, but I thought each and every transaction in the bitcoin ecosystem is traceable. How does one can "unlink" bitcoin from this sale?
fbnlsr··on Security.txt
I think humans.txt (http://humanstxt.org/) fits more, and already exists.
fbnlsr··on Sublime Text 3 now has font ligature support
I've spent the last six months trying out new fonts (m0n0, hack, monoid, hasklig, fira code, mononoki, fixedsys excelsior, iosevka, source code pro, input...)

Nothing cuts it, there's always that tiny thing that bothers me, and I'm back with Ubuntu Mono.

fbnlsr··on How I stopped procrastinating, learned to code, and launched my first product

fbnlsr··on GitHub Desktop 1.0
GitKraken is also nice. It's built using Electron so it's going to be hated here, but I've been using it for the past year on a somewhat considerable project and it held fine.
fbnlsr··on GitHub Desktop 1.0
Thanks a lot for this link!

I've been using either the command line or GitKraken, but it's always nice to see a new tool :)

fbnlsr··on Zircon Kernel, Core Drivers and Services
And it uses markdown instead of html, that's pretty neat.
fbnlsr··on Topicbox – FastMail’s new product for teams
My personal problem is that I'm way too deeply engaged with Google now. I was fortunate enough to get a Google Apps account back when it was a free service, and I have been providing all the Google services for me and all my family for free for several years.

Fastmail looks absolutely incredible and I've never heard the slightest bad thing about them, but it'd cost me $250/month to get the same level of service I get now for free. :/

fbnlsr··on A collection of text mode fonts, system fonts and BIOS fonts from DOS-era PCs
Too bad most of these can't be installed on a Mac :(

fbnlsr··on Music's weird cassette-tape revival is paying off
> Aphex Twin released a recording that took advantage of this.

Did he? I remember Autechre did (under the name Gescom).

For anyone interested in old music media types like these, I highly suggest Techmoan on Youtube.

fbnlsr··on Finding an Alternative to Mac OS X
I've been using Xubuntu on my Macbook Air in a VM and it feels amazing. It gets the job done and I really like the UI.

elementaryos is perfect for a MacOS user but it feels like it's not ready yet for day to day use.

fbnlsr··on GitHub lost $66M in nine months of 2016
I'm using both Gitlab and Github for different projects, and I just can't stand Gitlab's interface. Informations are scattered all around the place and there's no distinctive way of finding the information you want. Plus it's slow as hell.

Github's UI makes sense. I can find anything in the blink of an eye and it's blazing fast. The team I'm currently working with is completely fed up with Gitlab.

fbnlsr··on Ask HN: Any suggestions for a secure password manager?
I've been using LastPass with a Yubikey for several years now.

It's never let me down.

fbnlsr··on Scrum Board – Simple JavaScript Task Managament App
It's really cool.

I wonder how online scrum boards I've seen so far don't seem to visually integrate User Stories. On our physical Scrum board, we have big stickers for user stories, and tasks are written next to them. I've yet to see this implementation on a virtual board.
