fatfox··on Plane: Open-Source Alternative to Jira
Absolutely. I worked with a lot of different tools and Jira is as good as any other project management tool. But it just didn’t feel as responsive as, for example, Linear.

Asana was just as bad as Jira in terms of performance, with the added feeling that somehow something was always happening in the background…

fatfox··on Wikipedia had wrong Vatican flag for years – now incorrect flags are everywhere
I bet there’s a special place in hell for that Wikipedia editor. :>
fatfox··on Linen.dev: A 500 kb Slack alternative
Maybe it's just me being slow in the morning, but it's really cool to read the post and only a few seconds later you realise, you're already using the product. :D

I'm going to put Linen on my list and I'm curious to see where it's going. The concept of a searchable alternative to 'closed' communities like Discord is promising.

I'm wondering, though, if it's essentially a real-time chat experience that perhaps focuses on speed rather than depth.

fatfox··on Coworking from Home
I see what you did there!
fatfox··on Tesla removes parking sensors, the results are predictably terrible
The tests using a wheelie bin and…person…seem really basic.

How could this pass testing?

Compliance and internal politics? :>
fatfox··on Salesforce is shuttering Slack’s remote work research group Future Forum
Big soulless company will fail to replicate success of original founders due to lack of genuine vision for the acquired business.

Will try to shoehorn acquired business into mega corps core competencies and remove whatever made it uniquely successful.

fatfox··on Revenue is easy, profit is harder
We’ve created a generation of leadership people who never learned how to make a profit. Until last year, if you were focusing on unit economics, you were laughed out of the room. Fast growth and market share at all cost…
fatfox··on Starting February 9, we will no longer support free access to the Twitter API
Still no information about API pricing?

fatfox··on Marie Kondo Gives Up
Nobody will regret having spent less time tidying and more time with their kids.

Being a parent is stressful, but you’ll never get that time back. And as cheesy as it sounds: observe them, listen to them and play with them and you’ll see the world from a whole new perspective.

fatfox··on Show HN: Chrome extension to close Zoom/Notion tabs after launching desktop app
That’s actually super useful. Thanks for sharing!
fatfox··on Slack is the opposite of organizational memory (2018)
How companies structure organisational memory is down to culture. People need to understand the benefits and limitations of a tool like Slack and behave accordingly (most users even struggle to use threads appropriately).

Slack is perfect for agreeing on simple, reversible decisions that don’t require much context or structured debate. I doubt you’ll ever be able to remove that just-in-time feeling from Slack’s user experience. Its UI is just not made for deep thinking.

But any long term thinking should happen in tools like Notion, which is better set up for long thinking, discussion and structured documentation of decisions.

fatfox··on SAP to Layoff 3000
“Analysts are worried that the lucrative cloud segment for big tech companies could be hit hard as customers look to cut spending.”

Is SAP really that much at risk? New business, ok. But their software is usually deeply embedded into core business processes, it’s tough to cut back on SAP once you bought into it.

fatfox··on Remote work saved workers 72 minutes per day in 2021 and 2022
Why have many companies become anti remote work?

I noticed increasing hostility towards remote workers in companies that have mixed working models.

fatfox··on Canada calls screen scraping ‘unsecure,’ sets Open Banking target for 2023
Can confirm that Wise use Open Banking API to send money in the UK, if your bank supports it. If your bank doesn't support it, it's either debit / credit card or bank transfer.
fatfox··on Etsy to buy fashion reseller Depop for $1.63B
Back in 2016, Depop's founder, Simon Beckerman, was on an episode of BBC's The Bottom Line podcast about "The Youth Market" [1]. He explained his motivation behind starting Depop (app-driven alternative to eBay with a social element) and I thought it was quite insightful.

fatfox··on More big investors shun Deliveroo over workers' rights
Unrelated to Deliveroo, but "How to Become TripAdvisor’s #1 Fake Restaurant" (2018) was very telling as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqPARIKHbN8

From the video description:

> The Shed at Dulwich was the number one rated restaurant in London, with foodies, celebrities and bloggers trying to get a table. The main obstacle for them, however, was that it didn't exist. Over the course of 8 months VICE's Oobah Butler used an assault of fake reviews to get his 'restaurant' to the hallowed top spot on TripAdvisor.

fatfox··on Fake Amazon reviews 'being sold in bulk' online
Which Chinese platform runs all these checks? Really curious as I don't have much experience with selling on Chinese platforms.
