ezequiel-garzon··on The Earth is getting greener
I don't think your statement is controversial at all, as I imagine climate change skeptics and vaccine safety skeptics to be largely overlapping sets of people.

The real issue in terms of rational decision making, in the US and elsewhere, is the formation of the correct group and the incorrect group for pretty much anything, and their corresponding echo chambers. It looks like this recommended book at least attempts to break away from this trend.

ezequiel-garzon··on Memray – A Memory Profiler for Python
For those Python programmers out there, if you don't mind sharing your experiences, do you spend any time at all on the REPL? If so, what fraction of the time, approximately? Using IPython, JupyterLab, or something else? Or do you just run it directly from an VS Code or PyCharm? Anything you may want to add about your routine would be appreciated.

Oh, if you (experienced programmer or not) happen to know about a good site or YouTube channel to see Python programmers in action (as opposed to tutorials), please share.

Thanks in advance, and apologies for the digression.

The first website ever, at CERN [1], is not very consistent about this. Some pages [2] do link "home", but don't use this term: in this particular case, a link to "the WWW project" is given in the first sentence. Some [3] do not.

I love these maps, and I'm glad they provide downloads like [1]. I wish the resolution was a bit higher. As it is the names of the towns on the coasts can be read with difficulty.

ezequiel-garzon··on What is the Demoscene? An interview
I realize this peaked with old hardware, but I wonder, do visual artists that want to use the latest hardware for similar art not count as part of the demoscene? Why not? I imagine these hackers liked the technical challenge but also the aesthetics.
ezequiel-garzon··on FBI warns against using public USB charging ports
I can't test it, but the instructions seem to refer to AssistiveTouch only for Bluetooth devices:

"""To connect a Bluetooth device:

1. Go to Settings > Accessibility, and select Touch.

2. Select AssistiveTouch > Devices, then select Bluetooth Devices.

3. Select your device from the list."""

Indeed, Apple compares on its website the iPhone 15 to the iPhone 12: "The A16 Bionic GPU is up to 40% faster than the GPU in iPhone 12" [1]. Maybe unsurprisingly, they don't use this comparison for the Pro line. r/iphone discussion here [2].

ezequiel-garzon··on OpenBSD/ARM64 on Hetzner Cloud
After paying Vultr way too much for my personal toy OpenBSD hosting, let me share my host TinyKVM [1] as a happy customer. Obviously look at the terms, they clearly recommend not using it for any critical purposes. It's a service offered by RAM Host [2], based in Dallas.

A bit out of the blue, I'll say that I'm also a happy customer of MXroute [3], which are also in Texas. I like these folk's no-nonsense approach. I can only think of SpongeBob's friend Sandy, and the experience have reinforced this stereotype :) No affiliation, I'm sorry for this regional digression, have never been to Texas unfortunately, but good job, guys!

ezequiel-garzon··on Breakfast cereal is in long-term decline
Paying you to have children seems a bit much, potentially creating dangerous incentives. On the other hand, figuring out a way for people to be better off and not think about it so much due to basic responsibility sounds way better. Of course, good luck to policymakers with that one.

For completely unstyled sites, reader view should be the only view. What guidelines or rules should the other/s view/s be following? I say definitely not "nostalgic" view!
ezequiel-garzon··on No CSS Club
If the webpage has no CSS at all then nothing will be broken, either adding it internally or pretending that it's included.
ezequiel-garzon··on No CSS Club
It is considered CSS [1], which makes sense to me as this relates to styling. What has never made sense in my mind is to have completely unstyled pages rendered with microscopic fonts on smartphones. Doing so for old sites that, at the beginning of the mobile revolution, assumed on their CSS sheets 1024px wide screens is reasonable (though still debatable). Not so for CSS-free pages, whether they were authored in 1991 or in 2023.

I'm sorry if I got carried away, I wasn't replying to you in this last part :) For the record, I would also make this exception, though it would be neat to be able to select those without even the meta viewport tag.

ezequiel-garzon··on New York Times Election Day Crossword (2009)
Most people solving this at the time probably figured out the planned ambiguity, right? I mean, I'm pretty sure some people guessed at a point, say, CAT for 39D and OUI for 40D, etc.
