eternalvision··on Has BTC reached a local maximum at 5,000?
My other post predicting exactly how the top would play out was flagged, because I'm not a fan of various shenanigans that sadly involve this website, and made a controversial post to that effect.
eternalvision··on Alleged Equifax hackers demand $2.6M Bitcoin ransom
No, the current state-of-the-art in digital currencies completely changes the ballgame, relative to fiat. There's a reason BTC is the main payment mechanism for ransomware.
eternalvision··on Alleged Equifax hackers demand $2.6M Bitcoin ransom
IMHO this exposes risks related to the current state-of-the-art in digital currencies. BTC, and others, are really just an experiment; new technology will replace it that will be far, far more resistant to the nefarious use-cases in effect.
eternalvision··on Has BTC reached a local maximum at 5,000?
Currently above 4600, any takers?
eternalvision··on Nobel-winning economist Robert Shiller: Bitcoin is the best example of a bubble

eternalvision··on Has BTC reached a local maximum at 5,000?
Why did you buy at 370 if you thought it was going to dip to 300?

It's going to drop further, Nico.

eternalvision··on Has BTC reached a local maximum at 5,000?
What's a "market cap"? Are you talking about the market peak?
eternalvision··on Has BTC reached a local maximum at 5,000?
What does "Lol, no." mean? You seemed to have described a local maximum with "It will dip further".

I'd speculate on selling 5k-5.5k which may have passed, or maybe not, and buying below 2k depending on how the downtrend shapes up. My stop loss for this single idea is from 5.5k-6k.

eternalvision··on Ethereum Price Climbs to $360; Crypto Market Cap Pierces $160B
For the second point, I disagree. Rich banks are accumulating enough cryptocurrency to be a major player going forward.
eternalvision··on [dead]
Dancing is good for you, bla bla blahhhh. Hacker news is tiring.
eternalvision··on [dead]
Gotta get into the trade first, thus my "prediction" of a 5k peak early next month for a possible short trade.
eternalvision··on Could toxic air on planes make frequent flyers ill?
Any time I board a plane I get the distinct sense that the cabin air contains toxins of some kind, as it consistently smells like exhaust air.
eternalvision··on How can I become a very good programmer?
Start by being a young, excellent programmer. Become older, slower yet don't update your skills. Voila, you're now only a "very good" programmer.

This isn't satirical. There's a reason many companies favor the young. People are expendable.

eternalvision··on Hidden benefits of gossip, ostracism (2014)
Suicide is the result of bullying, workplace mobbing, community harassment, being hacked and fucked with over and over again for decades. The tigers and wolves in this case are replaced by the act of suicide -- this is the goal now whether people are conscious of it, or not.

Humans are primitive creatures in possession of a global stalking/harassment network that leaks over into "Real Life".

eternalvision··on Marijuana associated with three-fold risk of death from hypertension
Why do you believe this is contrary to reason?
eternalvision··on Instagram photos reveal predictive markers of depression
They do this, or at least have done this. If a "digitally depressed" person has exhausted all possible suggested friends, FaceBook proceeds to suggest friends that they assume will be sexually attractive to you, as an example.
eternalvision··on Despite S.E.C. Warning, Wave of Initial Coin Offerings Grows
Managing risk is all that matters. Have a plan to manage the trade if you're wrong.
eternalvision··on Show HN: Echo Show – RaspberryPi Security Camera
That's cool, but was thinking of something along the lines of what a PhD EE might conceive. Small chips out of sight using ultrasonic waves to create a detailed real-time 3d-map of a physical space, for instance.
eternalvision··on Show HN: Echo Show – RaspberryPi Security Camera
Slightly off-topic: Does anyone know what is state-of-the-art for small cameras suitable for surreptitious security?
eternalvision··on Trump Won’t Kill America, Bitcoin Will
BTC itself won't replace USD or kill America. A crypto-currency successor to BTC that eliminates the frictions for using BTC as a full replacement for fiat eventually could, however.

BTC is a fascinating social experiment, truly. It offers a glimpse into the future of money, as well as a modern-day manifestation of tulip mania.

eternalvision··on Social Status: Down the Rabbit Hole
My life likely would have been much more stable had I grown up a very rural area with a predicable network of friends and family. Instead, I've explored various parts of American society and am left underwhelmed, primarily due to the primitive instincts described in this article.
eternalvision··on How do you cut a monolith in half?
With MySQL, there's a fairly simple trick you can do to build a queue. Set a temp var to null, run an update with a select subquery to update state of next row(s), then select that var to get your queue row pk's.
eternalvision··on Who Holds the DEA Accountable When Its Missions Cost Lives?
This statement is irrational. It's misguided and ignorant to state that every agent of the DEA deserves life imprisonment. This serves to detract from the discussion.
eternalvision··on Dr. Bronner's Soap Is Investing Millions into MDMA Research
It is unfortunate that you've been downvoted. There's a bit of bias on HN when discussion of potential harms of LSD, THC, and MDMA come up.

Your comment is factually correct and is a relevant counterpoint. It should not have been downvoted.

eternalvision··on Why I'm Putting All My Savings into Bitcoin (2011)
While this is merely an anecdote, this past week I overheard a barber discussing bitcoin and how "you have to get in on it".

Such discussion can be indicative of a bubble approaching maximum capacity.

eternalvision··on Get your loved ones off Facebook
Your comment sums up the inertia issue nicely.

To me, rethinking social means rethinking the internet as a whole. The dream of a decentralized global network has been stolen from us, and it's up to us to find consensus and work together to get out of this mess.

eternalvision··on Facebook flooded with 'sextortion' and revenge porn, files reveal
Sex and power/status are inextricably linked for much of society.
eternalvision··on The Heroin Business Is Booming in America
You moved the goalposts. My response was to the claim of a "few" sleepless nights, which is far from the truth for the majority of long term regular users who quit. Instead, you said that there are, "at most, a couple weeks of" mild symptoms. This is simply not representative of the withdrawal scenario for long term heavy usage, both in duration and intensity.

I've seen first hand mentally stable folks who quit smoking marijuana after full time use for a number of decades. The withdrawal symptoms in these folks were far from mild, and lasted more than "at most a couple of weeks". Long term insomnia alone is a serious risk factor, due to their dependence on marijuana to maintain a regular sleep schedule.

While your generalization that marijuana withdrawal is tame may be true in many cases, particularly for light or short term use, it is false for long term daily users.

eternalvision··on The Heroin Business Is Booming in America
Marijuana absolutely can and does cause far more significant withdrawal than just a few sleepless nights. Under certain circumstances, the withdrawal can persist for much, much longer.

It's irresponsible to assume that marijuana is harmless and non-addictive or only mildly addictive, and too easy to justify as being benign, when juxtaposed wth the withdrawal process of harder drugs.

eternalvision··on Why Bitcoin is going to $20,0000/coin
Title has a typo. It should read $20,000, not $20,0000.
