ericcumbee··on Nashville uses eminent domain to block data center near zoo
Property Tax revenue, and they are not a drain on services like schools, roads, fire department, police department etc.

I'm watching this debate in a town that i am from and where I live. Our choices are pretty much be swallowed up by growth from neighboring cities and become a bed room community or solar farms and data centers.

The downside with becoming a bedroom community is you risk creating a negative tax base. where the cost of providing services is more than the properties bring with property taxes. I don't know what the right answer is.

ericcumbee··on UEFA and its national associations will not participate in FIFA competitions
drop the second F in FIFA and change Infantino to Mohammed Ben Sulayem and it sounds familiar.
ericcumbee··on A missing underscore sent innocent man to prison for 18 months
It’s not inconceivable that it was on those chat logs alone. In the us the jury instructions read something to the effect of “this is what beyond a reasonable doubt means. It is up to you to determine if the prosecution has met that burden and you choose to apply as much or little weight to any piece of evidence or testimony as you see fit”
ericcumbee··on Ferrari Luce
I'm not an expert on automotive or any type of design for that matter. But I have an appreciation for cars and especially racing cars. I can look at Ferraris of every era and even though the design language has changed. I can tell you that is a Ferrari. There is a common thread that runs through all of those cars that makes them a Ferrari. I just don't see that with the Luce. It looks like they threw a couple "Ferrari" styling cues on it, but that is it.
ericcumbee··on SpaceX launches Starship v3 rocket
I have a hard time saying that its stalled. For one we don't really have the hard data to quantify the V3s vs V2s actual performance. On their first flight we lost one on the booster and one on the ship. I don't know that the boostback burn problems are related to the engine themselves given that they had multiple failures and a premature cutoff. That feels like thats a problem upstream of the Raptor.

V2 they were bring them up in groups. V3 they start them all up at once.

the scammers steal channels, rename them and run those until google shuts them down. which they typically do but its swatting flies.
ericcumbee··on Starship's Twelfth Flight Test
they Typically put out a hype video before each flight at least the last several.
ericcumbee··on Starship's Twelfth Flight Test
the real question is what is our probability of Launch Commit Criteria Violation at T-0. i've seen them be no go at t-10 with a 10% chance of go and watched it lift off on time.

ericcumbee··on Improving ICU handovers by learning from Scuderia Ferrari F1 team
Pit stops aren't Ferrari's problem. its race Strategy.
ericcumbee··on Artemis II safely splashes down
There are easier cheaper ways of destroying a satellite than sending a space shuttle. We would have only sent a space shuttle to capture it for intelligence purposes.
ericcumbee··on Artemis II crew take “spectacular” image of Earth
The D5 has flight heritage to use the industry term.
ericcumbee··on I'd tell you a UDP joke…
An SQL Query walks into a bar and sees two table....he says "Mind if I join you?"
ericcumbee··on New Glenn Update
I believe that a larger fairing and vertical integration capability for Falcon is in the works as a result of the last round of the National Security Launch Contracts that SpaceX won.
ericcumbee··on Show HN: ISS in Real Time – 25 Years Aboard the International Space Station
hard to believe its been 25 years. I remember watching CSPAN at my grandmothers on a friday night watching the live coverage of STS-88 Mating the Russian Zarya Module to the US Unity node.
ericcumbee··on SpaceX launches Starship megarocket on 11th test flight
I'm pretty NASA signed the deal knowing full well that they were taking a big risk. The chances of Starship HLS being a Long Poll item for Artemis III were high. They chose Starship HLS knowing that it had a long and risky critical path.

And In fairness to NASA....and I may not have all of these details correct, but they didnt have many choices. the NASA Reauthorization Act required them to select two different landers for HLS, but the budget only funded one and under funded them at that. Starship was all that they could afford. Congress has since gone back and funded a second one.

Or just more people being exposed to the blue marble effect the better.
ericcumbee··on SpaceX launches Starship megarocket on 11th test flight
that goes way back to the early days of spacex. its a jab at ULA that was getting their engines from Russia. and at Russia itself because Musk felt screwed when he tried to buy a couple ICBMS for his original mars idea.
ericcumbee··on SpaceX launches Starship megarocket on 11th test flight
the people that hate musk are going to find something wrong with it "The Ship blew up on landing" and the musk lovers will do the opposite when things actually go wrong.
ericcumbee··on Starship's Eleventh Flight Test
Not an Aerospace Engineer by any measure but I would say that one was pretty much by the numbers.

ericcumbee··on QGIS is a free, open-source, cross platform geographical information system
I played with it some last year. not much has changed since I used it in a GIS class in 2007 in college.
ericcumbee··on Starship's Tenth Flight Test
It was said somewhere that one of the previous ditches in the ocean. the booster remained a little too intact and floated into Mexican waters creating a navigational hazard. So the idea was also to make sure it broke up on splashdown.
ericcumbee··on Starship's Tenth Flight Test
that was on the landing burn. they had a engine out on the ascent.
ericcumbee··on Starship's Tenth Flight Test
Even if they don't get to a no replacement....they still already have a massive improvement over Space Shuttle. The Space Shuttle basically every tile was unique, and and the pattern was different between the different orbiters. A good bit of the months of refurbishment of the Orbiter between flights was heat shield repairs. SpaceX has already shown from when they completely retiled one of the ships. they have cut down the time to replace a single tile down to minutes instead of the hours it took with the shuttle. The Tiles are also alot more standardized so they can be more mass produced than shuttle tiles.
ericcumbee··on Starship's Tenth Flight Test
It accomplished all the goals for this flight. That’s 100% successful

The Detail shots of the different parts of the starlink sats during the starlink feature was really interesting.
