This submission is at least tangentially relevant: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=14673489.

Combining these presents an interesting opportunity to create "future news" (news that is technically fake until it isn't) thereby owning the news cycle by always being first.

I saw that as a post. Can you please explain the symbolism? I took a look at your link, but it didn't jump out me.

endswapper··on Britain “haemorrhaging” manufacturing jobs
The quote doesn't blame Brexit. It's expressing the urgency of the issue and only referencing "post-Brexit Britain," as where Britain stands today.

I believe you are referring to this:

“If this sad decline is not addressed then post-Brexit Britain and the next generation will surely pay the price.”

Or, if the issue isn't addressed, from here on out it will be to our detriment.

endswapper··on Musk Jumps Off Trump Train in Wake of Paris Pullout Decision
"Am departing presidential councils. Climate change is real. Leaving Paris is not good for America or the world."

It doesn't get any clearer than that. Consensus was a step in the right direction. Disrupting the consensus before anything could be accomplished is a step backwards.

I think we could avoid an actual tax with an effective tax.

Container deposits such as bottles and cans have proven to be effective. It's worth exploring whether expanding the concept to cover materials in general would yield similar benefits. It wouldn't have to cost consumers anything more and it provides an incentive for the consumer to take on more responsibility for material and environmental stewardship.

In every possible instance, anything but La La Land.

I tip my hat to the genius of Damien Chazelle. Not for La La Land, it's a horrible movie, but for his decision and ability to make it now. Apparently, he wanted to make La La Land for some time and using his Whiplash leverage now was probably his best chance to get it made. He proved that everyone who told him, "No," was right, but kudos to him for getting it done.

endswapper··on Dear Mark Zuckerberg: Democracy is not a Facebook focus group
He's not representing MZ's post clearly, i.e. vaseline on a lens.
endswapper··on Dear Mark Zuckerberg: Democracy is not a Facebook focus group
The author, disappointingly, seems to present Zuckerberg's "Building Global Community," covered in vaseline to advance his own political agenda.

Zuckerberg is clearly talking about community and not governance.

Additionally, throwing around terms like "authoritarianism", "feudal" and "dictator" does nothing to engage Zuckerberg's points, or advance his own agenda. Rather, it simply clouds the conversation with personal assumptions, judgments, attacks, etc.

I'm old enough to remember when Bill Gates was depicted as a villain on a daily basis. This appears to have a similar tone.

Today, I'm not sure we could have a better fiduciary than Bill Gates through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Had he distributed ownership of Microsoft in a way similar to what the author suggests of Facebook the Global Community would have lost out, big league[0].

The LGBT community have won partial rights and their pursuit of rights is necessary and ongoing. I'll point to silly, counter-productive efforts in North Carolina for an obvious example of why it is necessary and ongoing[0].

Repealing the Defense of Marriage Act[1] and granting rights for same sex marriage[2] has done more for the LGBT community than any riot, or act of violence, or demand, ever has, or ever will.
