Hey HN, I've recently released the first version of my anonymous p2p, end-to-end encrypted Chat-Messanger Seal, its basically Discord but without any of your data being stored anywhere, the only thing ever reaching a server, is your public id linked with your username and due to technical limitations we also have a relay set up which will be used if the user is behind a NAT, or Firewall.
Feel free to check out all the features in the readme. :)
It depends, it can be... But tbh just set up a cronjob (auto repeating task) that refreshes your ssl certificate via certbot and you should be good to go. The initial setup might that a few hours of tinkering, but once you've made it you can easily have a mail server for $1-3. If you really don't wanna fully self host you can buy a Plesk workspace for like 99ct-5$ which allows emails, websites and databases
Just no. The EU literally just passed regulations requiring AI-generated content to be clearly labeled, and youre out here trying to make the internet even more sloppy and untrustworthy than it already is, cool project....
Really interesting idea, had fun testing - tho tbh it gets repetitive and slow after a few minutes, power ups or other ways to interact with player would be cool.
I don't think so, its being reinvented, due to the massive AI boom, people can easily create 'their own' tools, tho ive realized building your own software needs updates, fixes, patches etc. which take a lot of time. So no, people try around but in the end most of them go back to the bought tools
Interesting, tho I gotta ask how much of it is done by ai/what role AI played in this project, because Claude even added itself as co-author lol. Will check it out later
I'm currently working on an open-source End-to-End Encrypted P2P Chat-Platform similar to matrix but with the thinnest backend possible, the backend is a a simple directory server + relay, nothing more you can find more about it in the readme on GitHub :)

On Mac I haven't decided between Davinci Resolve and FinalCut, even tho Premiere is great, it's Adobe so meh. On Linux I use Davinci Resolve with some tricks to get the good codecs, would use Davinci on Windows too
Ive been reading a lot of docs and not gonna lie it can be interesting just reading how a matrix works exactly for 3 hours straight. Ive read an article about how chopsticks where made, just those random informations you will never need again lol
I am moving further away from just telling an AI to 'fix' something, instead ive started using it for docs and codebase analysis that runs while I code myself.
There are dozens of things you can find a list of things you can do here https://www.kdnuggets.com/5-cool-things-i-did-with-local-lan....
I always loved experimenting, building HomeAssistant, and tbh everything you don't want any public AI to know about you
Yes definitely, I don't even see a single positive reason why they should be allowed to lie. Ive seen a lot of scams lately with AI's being used myself and it's scary how real they sound in tone etc. So a big YES from me
Im lowkey trying out everything, I'm not really good at anything but I'd say drawing, music production and book writing are all awesome. I always say 'Being decent in a lot of different things is way cooler than being the best at ...'
Most games are cluttered with micro transactions and unethical data harvesting. You should look for indie games instead of the big scam companies, stuff like Voodoo was always there, low effort apps cluttered with ads and paywalls. Some of my favorites are: Terraria of course - it's a timeless classic game with so many options, looks boring at first but you have endless options. Second is The Past within, it's a clever co-op puzzle game built entirely around communication. You are solving the same mystery from two different time periods, sharing clues to unlock each other's puzzles. Zero ads, zero microtransactions. I really LOVE Bloons TD 6, it's a tower defense game where you both place monkey towers on the same map to stop incoming balloon waves. BTD6 has IAPs, but they are purely optional skips. You can earn every tower, upgrade, and map just by playing normally. There is still Minecraft of course, but its Microsoft which is meh... The last one on my list would be Human Fall Flat which Ive never actually played myself but it was sitting on my wishlist forever, never had anyone to play it with tho, worth checking out.
If you want to bypass app store garbage entirely, another route is looking at Apple Arcade or Google Play Pass, which explicitly ban ads and microtransactions across their entire catalogs.
