elkos··on Ask HN: Who is using OpenClaw?
You may need to add a SOUL.md as per Hermes documentation that I don't have handy right now. Ask you hermes to do it for you. It really improved my interactions with it.

I'm really happy with Matrix chat. But it's more of a protocol than a sole implementation. The good people at Element are pretty neat too.

elkos··on Tesla Motors Linux Kernel
how compliant is Tesla to GPL? Last time I checked things didn't look that good: https://sfconservancy.org/blog/2023/dec/21/tesla-no-source-c...
elkos··on Tesla Robotaxi
as far as I've seen a high number of comments in a HN post will impact it's ranking.

to my understanding that is a feature designed to limit flamewars, of course I might be mistaken.

elkos··on Tesla Robotaxi
Maybe the product isn't the car but the stock.

elkos··on Vitalik is the public intellectual the tech world needs
true, the way I see it, we need libre software, hardware, data but IMHO we also need lots of people from diverse backgrounds (professional, cultural, you name it) to share these ideas into the public sphere.
elkos··on The Antikythera Mechanism
I have to admit that my grievances were mostly about Greek academics.
elkos··on Can Elon Musk stop X going to the wall after tirade at advertisers?
there might be financial and political aspects to that, including those of the major investors of Twitter as a private company
elkos··on The Antikythera Mechanism
I'm Greek, I've been to the National museum of Athens several times and love the mechanism, the replication attemps, etc Clickspring though has actually made me understand and feel the challenges to build that thing. My personal view (please take it with a tablespoon of salt) is that Clickspring has made further contributions in understanding the underlying technological challenges than many academic papers and diatribes have done.
elkos··on Can Elon Musk stop X going to the wall after tirade at advertisers?
Maybe that's the plan all along.
elkos··on Forbes built hall of shame for the questionable people on its 30 Under 30 lists

My native language is Greek but I have been involved in translating stuff from English to Greek before.

Most translators in open-source projects are pretty familiar with English. Usually they have a technological or background so English is a must. Often we struggle with translating terms into our very own language because at least in some cases they may sound a bit weird.

I personally tend to use English UIs in the software I use because it reduces the cognitive load off trying to figure out the exact term at hand, but for my 85yo mom that struggles with very basic stuff yeah I'm glad she has the choice to use Greek.

elkos··on Subtitle is now open-source
Maybe an off-topic comment.

I'm not a native English speaker and I tend to use the LiveCaption application in Linux when I attend English speaking online meetings. Would love to have the opportunity to have subtitles in my native language (Greek) too while doing so.

elkos··on Despite just 5.8% sales, over 38% of bug reports come from the Linux community (2021)
I tend to file bug reports all the time on the Linux systems I work with because that's the least I can do to assist the developers of the open source projects involved.
