ei8htyfi5e··on Intel removes Xinjiang references from shareholder letter
Sorry, but did you read this properly? They could not substantiate that the partner schools abused project funds, but still closed the funding for them, because of too much risk. Probably because reporting standards didn’t match. They do not deny the “situation in Xinjiang” - they say that particular report did not substantiate the purchase of body armor/security gear etc in partner schools.

How are you going to cancel someone if they already aren't listening to you? Gunna place thousands of calls to their employer? Mail them awful things in the mail? Un follow them? I know you were joking but come on. There's no way to cancel something external. In order to cancel them, they need to buy into your system and have shame, something the CCP does not have.

They don’t have Twitter there, the GFW blocks it.
ei8htyfi5e··on Intel removes Xinjiang references from shareholder letter
It’s absolutely not backwards. When you have a million people in a concentration camp in a given region, and China is known for shipping these slaves around their country to work in factories, to make sanctions and targeted policies more difficult to apply, can you maybe see why a rule of thumb has been created black listing an entire region? This is their choice. Cause. Effect.

For invisibility to work like that for more than one viewing angle you would need to add the initial number of pixels for each angle you want to support. So it’s unlikely to work even at small sizes. So 10 angles, you’d need 10x the original number of pixels.
ei8htyfi5e··on The WHO is seeking a new treaty on handling future pandemics
I’m sorry, but I think we’re on different planets here.

I work and live in DC and that’s a forgone conclusion here.

Since I can’t ask you for evidence of China NOT controlling the WHO, maybe I can put it to HN:

Does anybody have a good article for this person to read about China and the WHO?

Maybe google “WHO China Influence”. There are thousands of articles.

ei8htyfi5e··on The WHO is seeking a new treaty on handling future pandemics
Organizations are driven by incentives. The incentives haven’t changed, therefore organizations haven’t learned their lesson.

Second, nations exist to serve their populations. Think xenophobia and racism are bad now? Wait until it’s life or death and a decision is now directly attributable to the deaths of those around you.

“Sorry Aunt Edna, you have to die. A factory worker in Mexico got your vaccine so they can make cars for an American company.”

The WHO is politically controlled by China and that’s not going away. Any proposal to let the WHO have sovereignty over the USA in any form, this is DOA. Without USA, what’s the point?

That said, maybe there are common grounds or infrastructure that can be build collectively, similar to the space station that everyone funds and benefits from in a pre agreed upon way.

ei8htyfi5e··on [dead]
This article is factually incorrect on so many levels, I don't think it's worth addressing individually. The world has an unknown pathogen, that has been shown to lay dormant and hide in your body. 20% of cases will result in an ICU visit. 5% will need a respirator for 3-6 weeks. When cured, reinfection rate is ~14%. It attacks your central nervous system and people are dropping dead in the streets. China has SHUT DOWN. No factory production. So even if he's right about the virus, the economy is cratered. Please treat this with the severity and attention it deserves and stop minimizing the risks. This is bad. One in a hundred year event.

ei8htyfi5e··on China is on track to beat its peak-emissions pledge
I've lived there and can say from experience China just makes stuff up. The local governments are responsible for reporting to higher ups and they don't want to miss targets, so they straight up lie. In reality it's a house of cards. You can lie about a 2% change once, and twice, and three times, but soon your lies compound and it's clear you didn't reduce emissions by the rate you reported. Only time will prove me correct about this. They do this with air quality regularly. Chinese official numbers of PM2.5 are regularly 30-50% lower than what the US embassy reports.
ei8htyfi5e··on Blockchain takes us back to medieval times
I do think crypto will allow us to enter a new age feudalism. Companies are building houses on campus, they have cafeterias, they will have their own money. This will all be at the expense of the commons and the nation state. In the process of writing a well thought out piece (by my standards, I'm sure there will be haters) and I'll post in the coming weeks.

This wasn't a comment that was incorrect or that the community felt was inappropriate. They highly voted it up in both stories.
ei8htyfi5e··on Hypersonic Missiles Are Unstoppable. And They’re Starting a New Arms Race
As I understand, counter-hypersonics are the only defense to this, something not mentioned in the article. Are we entering a new age of Feudalism? Corporations will provide housing, food, salary and company stores. This is so incredibly dystopian it's crazy.
ei8htyfi5e··on Facebook Cryptocurrency Plan Faces Opposition in France
I put this in another thread but I've been shouting it far and wide today.

I've lived in China and seen how this plays out. Facebook's new Libra Blockchain will be a centralized bank but way more dangerous.

It will allow for a worldwide social credit system. If Facebook decides to remove you for wrong speak or wrong think, your money and many services will be inaccessible.

Further, they have no mandate like the central bank does to increase employment. Their mandate is to make money for corporations. This will lead to global social unrest.

This will put some third-world countries in complete control by Facebook. I mean, whoever runs the currency, is the country. But in this case, it will be completely controlled, as it's also many of those countries main source of communication. Therefore, if Facebook's Libra is a countries main currency and social network, that country will be owned by Facebook.

Finally, the regulations on crypto and blockchain are still new. This is in Facebook's advantage as they can start lobbying to have these laws in their favor. They can argue for less transparency, as they are a bank, and this fits with their new privacy marketing message.

This is extremely subversive and Europe is already rightly pushing back. America will be next. On one hand, I love seeing the existing financial system panic when new technology comes out. On the other hand, under no circumstances will I accept a world where Facebook started the one world currency.

ei8htyfi5e··on Facebook reveals its cryptocurrency Libra
Visa is a player and doesn't represent the financial system at large. They're doing this because they realize it's existential that they do.

Look at what regulators will say in the coming days. Europe is already saying under no circumstances will they allow a sovereign currency to operate unabated.

The US Federal Reserve is a major source of American power. It's "rumored" the US has invaded countries before for threatening to price oil in alternate currencies. You think they're going to accept this affront to their global hegemony laying down?
