egeozcan··on Replacing JavaScript with Just HTML
I needed to recreate it recently because summary element does not allow headings inside, because it has a button role.
egeozcan··on Amazon will allow ePub and PDF downloads for DRM-free eBooks
A friend of mine received a double shipment for a $300 order. Being honest, he contacted customer service to arrange a return. Everything seemed fine until a few days later when he noticed they had also refunded his original payment. He reached out again to let them know, and they said they’d just recharge his card. Apparently, that transaction failed (no clear reason why), and without any warning, they banned his account, wiping out his entire Kindle library in the process. Amazon works wonderfully right up until it fails spectacularly.
egeozcan··on After ruining a treasured water resource, Iran is drying up
Erdoğan is not the first person to mess up the economy of the country, but extreme deep corruption and antidemocratic playbook were never experienced before. If you ask his base, everything's fine though.
egeozcan··on After ruining a treasured water resource, Iran is drying up
As someone of Turkish origin with Kurdish, Bulgarian, and Greek roots (somehow my genes don't fight each other!), I'm deeply saddened by the current state of the region. Growing up in western Turkey, I didn't give much thought to the eastern part of the country, let alone Iran. Funnily, my first real interactions with Iranian culture didn't happen until I moved to Germany. Aside from their cuisine being the only one besides Turkish where I actually enjoy the rice (pilav/pilaf), I've found Iranians to be such warm, kind people who have suffered far too much due to politics. Maybe that's why we connected so deeply... We share similar struggles, though I recognize that Turkey's situation involves much less external interference than Iran's... ours is mostly our own doing.

I hope the rulers solve this problem as quickly as possible without causing pain to the civilians.

egeozcan··on VS Code deactivates IntelliCode in favor of the paid Copilot
I have a C8 from LG, and I'm so happy with it after so many years, works wonderfully as a dumb panel, and a great panel at that. I wonder if it's impossible to use the newer ones like that. Anyone has any experience? Asking because our neighbors want the same great "tv".
egeozcan··on JSDoc is TypeScript
I think the point here is that all the TS tooling works with JSDoc without any friction. As long as you don't look into the file, from the tooling perspective, a .ts file and a .js file with proper JSDoc annotations are practically the same.
egeozcan··on I failed to recreate the 1996 Space Jam website with Claude
Side note: As a person who started using a mac since march, I found phoenix slides really good.
egeozcan··on Kilauea erupts, destroying webcam [video]
Probably this amazing capture is worth more than a hundred times the price of the camera, yet the geek in me feels really sad when perfectly functional hardware gets destroyed :)
egeozcan··on Z-Image: Powerful and highly efficient image generation model with 6B parameters
Have a 48GB M4 Pro and every inference step takes like 10 seconds on a 1024x1024 image. so six steps and you need a minute. Not terrible, not great.
egeozcan··on Ask HN: Quality of recent gens of Dell/Lenovo laptops worse than 10 years ago?
> I have never understood why some people want to avoid switching off their computers

> I always take care to optimize the boot time on my computers with custom built kernels and carefully selected daemons

egeozcan··on Zig quits GitHub, says Microsoft's AI obsession has ruined the service
Also

> More importantly, Actions is created by monkeys ...

vs

> Most importantly, Actions has inexcusable bugs ...

I commend the author for correcting their mistakes. However, IMHO, an acknowledgement instead of just a silent edit would have been better.

Anyway, each to their own, and I'm happy for the Zig community.

egeozcan··on Gemini CLI tips and tricks for agentic coding
The trick with Gemini is to uploading the whole (or the relevant part of the) codebase (depending on the size) as an xml (using repomix et al) then telling it to output whole files.

With a good prompt and soem trial and error in system instructions, as long as you agree to play the agent yourself, it's unmatched.

CLI? Never had any success. Claude Code leaves it in dust.

egeozcan··on Claude Opus 4.5
I'm completely the opposite. I find Gemini (even 2.5 Pro) much, much better than anything else. But I hate agentic flows, I upload the full context to it in aistudio and then it shines - anything agentic cannot even come close.
egeozcan··on The privacy nightmare of browser fingerprinting
I don't agree the search for a technical solution. Fingerprinting is not useful for the small personal website, and when it's useful and abused, there's a 99% chance that there's a network behind. You can audit and control the networks using the law. Why not do that?

It's been obvious for a decade and a half that technical solutions won't be practical to implement.

egeozcan··on Gemini 3
How can they keep it private? It's not like they can run these models locally. Do the providers promise not to peak when they are testing?
egeozcan··on Gemini 3
I'm afraid they will finish "The Salmon of Doubt" with AI and sell it to the future generations with a very small disclaimer, stating it's inspired by Douglas Adams.

The possibility was already a topic in the series "Mozart in the jungle" where they made a robot which supposedly finished the Requiem piece by Mozart.

egeozcan··on GitHub: Git operation failures
FYI in an emergency, you can buy a plane ticket and send someone to access the server directly.

I actually had the privilege of being sent to the server.

egeozcan··on Google Antigravity
That'd be my experience with gemini cli.
egeozcan··on AirPods libreated from Apple's ecosystem

Excel spreadsheets with macros on the other hand aren't THAT many, no? :)
egeozcan··on Laptops with Stickers
For sure, that's what I thought as well!
egeozcan··on Laptops with Stickers
I made a kinky interpretation and apparently I'm wrong.

The white label with the "Haltungsform" is a standard label used in the German meat industry, showing under what conditions animal was kept before being slaughtered. 1 is the worst, and 5 is the best: https://haltungsform.de/en/

In this one, it says "Käfighaltung" under 2. Which means "caged keeping". So I assumed it's a kinky reference to a chastity cage. Maybe too much of a jump I know but I'm not a native German speaker and all the times I heard about a cage in German, it was in a kinky context.

Now that you asked and I looked at the source, apparently it's part of a working environment themed sticker set: https://www.threads.com/@unterwegselektrisch/post/DD34uR6uJG...

It's embarrassingly wrong but very funny too :)

egeozcan··on .NET 10
This probably isn't true but I want to read a super geeky dark sci-fi novel that explores this topic.
egeozcan··on Laptops with Stickers
Removing a sticker is easier than getting rid of a tattoo. Some people on this website even declare that they wear a chastity device on their laptop stickers: https://stickertop.art/content/images/2025/11/IMG_9217-2.jpe...
egeozcan··on .NET 10
Most of your electronic devices work with embedded software. Production lines, transport gates, cranes, computer hardware, ships, planes, rockets, cars, e-bikes, smart lights...

There is also scientific programming, that feeds research and analysis. Weather reports? Statistics, etc.

And there is gaming.

Devops, infrastructure? Databases? Tools for artists? Most of those aren't web. And yes I've heard of Figma.

There are probably tens of categories I'm missing.

Web is still bigger probably, but I have a problem with the saying "practically all other development is web".

egeozcan··on Vodafone Germany is changing the open internet, one peering connection at a time
At such organizations, you can usually communicate with any contractor, but you must go through a project manager. These managers, who are often contractors themselves, act as a support center for the other contractors.
egeozcan··on Windows 10 Deadline Boosts Mac Sales
As a person who switched from windows to mac (while linux being an all-time constant) for other reasons, it still feels like a weird migration because windows is a system full of glaring bugs that everyone experiences but knows how to work around while mac is (feels like) a system absent of huge flaws but there are many more smaller bugs that very small number of users experience that are seemingly impossible to work around.

One thing that's driving me crazy:

So for example you have 5 virtual desktops on Mac, and you use a keyboard shortcut to move left and right. So, if you start from the 1st and go to the 3rd and then immediately try to go back to the 2nd (1->3->2), animations need to complete on the 3rd until you can change direction. Doesn't happen if you start from the 2nd and go to the 4th then change direction to move to the 3rd(2->4->3). Same when beginning from the 5th to the 3rd then back to 4th (5->3->4). Doesn't happen with 4->2->3. Also, the windows which are visible on all desktops are shown until the animation is complete then the last focused windows on that desktop will be shown. And even with reduced motion, some fade animation is still there. Infuriating stuff for otherwise a magical experience.

egeozcan··on SQL Anti-Patterns
But the first condition looks special while it isn't and it sometimes leads to changes touching one too many lines.
egeozcan··on SQL Anti-Patterns
I don't know about anti patterns but what I like to do is putting 1=1 after each WHERE to align ANDs nicely and this is enough to create huge dramas in PR reviews.
egeozcan··on Gemini 3.0 spotted in the wild through A/B testing
I agree. I use repomix with AI Studio extensively and never found anything (including the cli agents) that's close.

I sometimes upload codebases that are around 600k tokens and even those work.

Repomix also lets you create a config file so you can give it ignore/include patterns in addition to .gitignore.

It also tells you about the outlier files with exceptionally long content.
