eekfuh··on Show HN: I designed an espresso machine and coffee grinder
| We figured out how to heat water thousands of years ago

Then why doesn't this device heat the water

eekfuh··on Android app from China executed 0-day exploit on millions of devices
Not to be pedantic but it’s not a 0-day when the patch for the vuln was released before exploit was executed.
eekfuh··on Bitcoin Lightning network could disrupt $150B year payment/remittance industry
Pennies is still to high. It needs to be fractional.
eekfuh··on 4 Year Compensation Packages Comparison
It would be a better overall comparison if you could factor in stock refreshers and the cadence of which they are given.
eekfuh··on 23andMe has signed a $300M deal with GlaxoSmithKline
AFAIK 23andme and Ancestry are competitors. This would makes sense why they asked Ancestry what they do and doesn’t use that to make the argument as each company may treat sharing differently.
eekfuh··on Show HN: Colors Used by Popular Sites
I would like to see the colors sorted by hue
eekfuh··on Toronto Condos: Should you rent or buy?
One time maintenance fees versus monthly HOA fees that you are required to pay.
eekfuh··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (February 2015)
Anonyome.com - https://www.anonyome.com/careers.php - Salt Lake City, Utah Also hiring in the Gold Coast, QLD, Australia

We are hiring interns and full-time engineers. Even marketing people. We are a "stealth startup" with a healthy amount of funding.

eekfuh··on California Orders Coding Bootcamps To Stop Enrollment And Issue Refunds
So we've had a couple ask for $130k that went to HackReactor. Found it interesting that they both asked for the exact same number. We also had a couple from 2 different Chicago bootcamps asking for nearly 100k.

I do not live in Silicon Valley or NYC or Chicago. I live in Utah. Average household income is under $60k.

eekfuh··on California Orders Coding Bootcamps To Stop Enrollment And Issue Refunds
The experience we've had with hiring people from these bootcamps has been about 50/50. 50% of the people are completely unable to engineer and instead just know a language. 50% of them are hard workers and eventually learn how to be an engineer. 100% of them ask for outrageous salaries for not actually having any professional experience. I think the bootcamps spend a decent amount of their time setting high expectations and how to ask for a large amount of money.
eekfuh··on Coin
The magstripe data has all the name information in it.
eekfuh··on Kickstarter: Control your sprinklers with your smart phone
I'm going to guess you don't actually have a sprinkler system.
eekfuh··on Kickstarter: Control your sprinklers with your smart phone
Being from Utah, I love seeing useful technologies come out of our oft forgotten tech center.
eekfuh··on Ask HN: How much recurring income do you generate, and from what?
Around $1000 per month for an iOS app I wrote in 2008 and have made some updates to. It used make around $2k a month.
eekfuh··on [dead]

eekfuh··on Effeckt.css
They use some JS to add and remove classes, but they are all either CSS transitions or CSS animations.
eekfuh··on Boxee Acquired By Samsung For Around $30M
I normally would agree with your low valuation sentiments, but the competition is really fierce (Roku, AppleTV, even Ouya) and I haven't seen more than one Boxee out in the wild.
eekfuh··on Show HN: Funnel Visualization in HTML/CSS/D3.js
Initially I wrote it using 2 div's (one for the segment and one for the gap) so it would work in ie8, but I opted to go with one div, since its cleaner DOM-wise.
eekfuh··on Poll: Do you select text while reading?
I tend to use it for sites that have low line-heights. Like this site. The wide page and low line-height make it really hard for me to read. For reading content I'd say a min of 160% line-height.
eekfuh··on Starbucks acquires Teavana for $620 Million
Non-techie in me: Maybe this will make Starbucks actually have good tea... or at least more variety. (Teavana is more smelly tea than tasty tea)
eekfuh··on Zynga May Have Just Laid Off 100+ Employees From Its Austin Office
The general consensus is that they timed it to coincide with Apple's announcement, so that the news of them laying off employees would be buried by all the Apple press.
eekfuh··on Why you should never use GoDaddy ever again (even for a domain search)
Just because its "Registered Through" doesnt mean that Godaddy owns the domain. Someone could easily just purchased it during that time and could be using Godaddy (they are the worlds largest registrar).

My dad's domain is registered through Godaddy. It says the same thing "You can view the WHOIS listing or use Domain Buy Service to get this name" when you search for it on their website. Also he is using their privacy service and the whois says this:

Registered through: GoDaddy.com, LLC (http://www.godaddy.com)

eekfuh··on Paid Vacation? That’s Not Cool. You Know What’s Cool? Paid, Paid Vacation.
I don't want to sound like "that guy", but isn't this why there really aren't very many startups/innovations coming out of EU?

That sense of entitlement and cushy job seems to prevent people from taking risks. They'd rather just coast.

eekfuh··on JavaScript game of Tron in 219 bytes
Images would be this way, but fonts, gradients, vectors, etc all look fine. (Unless the app itself hasn't been updated to render those in the new density. Safari works great)
eekfuh··on Apple Founder Wozniak to Buy Facebook Regardless of Price
With that title, I was expecting it to be a The Onion article.
eekfuh··on Simple solution to host multiple HTTPS sites on the same cloud server
Back in my teenage years I worked at Bluehost and they did this exact thing for their shared hosting platform. It was simple and worked well.
eekfuh··on Dear Github, please fix the Watch-Button
Exactly. I don't think a 'like' button would be of much use. I'd rather see:

eekfuh··on Jobseekers Invited to “Apply Via API”
There is a billboard around Utah that has a base64 string on it, if you decode it, it reads "head /hi" and if you HEAD their domain/hi it says POST then some params about yourself to /apply.
eekfuh··on Facebook Timeline is too awful to be an accident
Classic did change. It went from having cane sugar before to having high fructose corn syrup afterwards.
eekfuh··on Boing Boing blackout message
I love that they are doing this, BUT the big header "503: Service Unavailable" is what is first read and in my experience, most users will just stop in their tracks and return later (assuming the site is having technical issues) without reading the rest.
