edbyrne··on Ask HN: Where can I buy real software companies?
Drop me a note (email is in my profile) if you'd like to look at a SaaS business at the higher end of your revenue target.
edbyrne··on Amazon Cloud Drive: Prime Photos
Per GB it's 4c - and S3 is 3c - I wonder why? Maybe internally Amazon teams have to pay for S3 so the 1c is Cloud Drives margin...
edbyrne··on RightSignature Acquired by Citrix
Congrats to all- great service have been using for everything for years!
edbyrne··on Show HN: Hosted Docker-as-a-Service on SSDs for $5
Blog and lots of Copper tools hosted on AWS. Stackdock on dedicated (not AWS or other IaaS) hardware.
edbyrne··on Show HN: Hosted Docker-as-a-Service on SSDs for $5
To be honest - I think it's a timing thing - virtualization wasn't popular initially but VMWare did a great marketing job. Then any hyper-visor became acceptable. Now - VPS-style containers are becoming acceptable. IE: Docker.
edbyrne··on Show HN: Hosted Docker-as-a-Service on SSDs for $5
Appreciate the feedback - thanks - point taken and we'll fix this.

Hackernews traffic spike! You can signup and create a Dockerfile - we've just paused instance deployment for a couple of hours as we add more servers. Sorry for the inconvenience.
edbyrne··on Show HN: Hosted Docker-as-a-Service on SSDs for $5
Thanks for the suggestion - we are looking at more usage based billing - including per CPU cycle / RAM usage to be a 'true' utility.
edbyrne··on Show HN: Hosted Docker-as-a-Service on SSDs for $5
It's per instance - so you can have unlimited docker files; you only pay when you create an instance from one.
edbyrne··on Show HN: Hosted Docker-as-a-Service on SSDs for $5
Thanks - we discussed that a lot - we were trying to make a simple 3 steps process. If we get a lot of feedback that it's confusing we'll ditch it.

Hey - thanks a million - that's the plan!
edbyrne··on Show HN: VerticalChange, SurveyMonkey meets Highrise (and a LOT of AngularJS)
So this is a CRM for non-profits? Or a HR tool?
edbyrne··on AWS Costs Cheat Sheet (Updated)
Thanks for the feedback. We can enable by default no problem - we just left it out since the upfront cost is included in the list.

I had a spreadsheet prior to this too ... that's why we decided to publish it (and programmatically keep it updated so it's always right - spreadsheets are tiresome to maintain!)

edbyrne··on Ask HN: What are 3 things you would want from a non-technical co-founder?
It's not what you want, it's what you want them to be responsible for, that they can achieve success in:

- Fund Raising and Financing - Customer Acquisition, Marketing, Content Marketing, PR - Metrics Metrics Metrics

Basically - the Start; the Operations (customer facing, not dev obviously); the Intelligence (where the overlap is and the co-founders work closely together on sharing their perspectives).

edbyrne··on Logging-as-a-Service with logentries
Great stuff. Value++ for PaaS.
edbyrne··on Going from $0 to $500k in 1 Year with no VC Money
I love all this talk about hours worked as if it's not a proxy for achievement - of course it is.

Will weak workers achieve great things in 6 hours or 16 hours? No.

Will over-achievers do brilliant things in 6 hours instead of 16 - depends on your definition.

Hours worked, working smart and all this BS doesn't matter. What matters is the size and complexity of the problem your working on, and how many problems you have to solve to move the needle on your goals.

So if you can do a great 30 hour week a move the needle - lucky you! Some people have to pour in 80-100 hour weeks just move the needle because what they are working on just cant be done 'smarter'.

I think the discussion needs to move from hours worked and quality of hours worked, back to quality of people : and hopefully the right people will work the right amount of time to productively deliver whats needed.

edbyrne··on US CTO Aneesh Chopra stepping down
Not a great vindication of the new CIO/CTO roles created within governments, if the 2 of them only lasted a couple of years in what should have been the most exciting and challenging phase of their careers.
edbyrne··on Show HN: SocialFolders, "Dropbox for social"
Export/Backup for your Social Networks - great idea.

Can I get more than just photos (files)? Can I save my data or will that get you banned from a few of the providers you integrate with!

I use Backupify for this 'anti-Cloud' type service - it backs up my Gmail. Since I use more than one PC, I'd like to see this do similar to Dropbox - sync local, in the Cloud, and be accessible through clients on any device. I suppose I could do that by putting the SocialFolders into Dropbox - but I'm not sure I want to pay on the double then.
