duvander··on Ask HN: Which companies have the best blogs written by their engineering team?
Awhile back I found this curated engineering blog list https://github.com/sumodirjo/engineering-blogs
duvander··on Extensive OpenAPI / Swagger resource guide
"We broke down this guide into the following topics: Writing Spec / Design, Documentation, Generators, Servers, Clients, Testing & Monitoring, Gateways / Management, Public Specifications"
duvander··on When Will the Last Line of Code Be Written?
I have a computer science degree and I love to write code. My title does not have "engineer" in it. Feel free to hold that against me :)
duvander··on When Will the Last Line of Code Be Written?
Thanks for this insight! I love this idea of code growing up to become data.
duvander··on When Will the Last Line of Code Be Written?
Hey, author here. You're right, this post is about the big picture, the larger trend.
duvander··on When Will the Last Line of Code Be Written?
Agreed! Frameworks, libraries, and APIs are all about tradeoffs. Because they will never make sense for some programmers and use cases, the last line of code will probably never be written... but there's an undeniable trend heading that direction for so many. Thanks for reading.
duvander··on Overscroll.js
Only works on Apple devices (browsers that return overscroll data)
duvander··on Telephony, SMS, and MMS APIs
The data appears to be culled from ProgrammableWeb.
duvander··on Show HN: Custom New Tab page for Firefox
This looks great. I use something similar* in Chrome for a similar effect. I like that you can make it exactly what you want with your version.

duvander··on Show HN: PosterStitch – Instagram and Facebook Photo Collage Maker
Thanks for posting, this is well done. I really liked the fun you put into the "processing photos" animation.

A few thoughts:

* The double "connect to Facebook" is jarring.

* My photos didn't fill up the collage--why not make the sections bigger instead of making me add more photos?

duvander··on My Perspective on Go
Just a non-programmer with a masters in Computer Science...
duvander··on Ask HN: How to find a good creative partner for solo projects?
This is the technical co-founder question in different skin. Most creative people don't want to "put a pretty face" on your idea. The best way to find creative talent is to get them excited about the idea early on and involve them through the project.
duvander··on Show HN: JustReachOut – Forget PR Firms, a tool to pitch reporters yourself
The implication is that if they've written about it once, they may write about it again. However, as you point out, a personal connection goes a long, long way. The personal connection lets you know whether the writer wrote about it once because nobody else was covering or if it's a topic they're looking to dive into and cover more.
duvander··on Ask HN: OData is REST – but would you use it?
Do you need to choose either/or?
duvander··on How Long Does Mass Extinction Take?
Between 12,000 and 108,000 years
duvander··on Overthinking Design
A style guide is an important way to keep everybody on the same page. Not enough products have one. As others (including the OP) suggest, this is not the entirety of design, but it's a great step after something like Bootstrap to help differentiate the product.
duvander··on The Engineer Crunch
> if I've hijacked the thread here, let me know; I've said all this before and am happy to delete the comment.

You were voted up because it's a detailed and insightful comment. Thanks for sharing.

duvander··on Show HN: GradeMyLoan.com – Custom Analysis of Your Home Loan
You're dealing with sensitive information, so you need to do a lot more to make users feel comfortable giving you their data.

The first step of the form (that's as far as I got) didn't make clear why I would select Address or Home Value. I figured out that you can use either. I'd lean toward home value because that's the smallest invasion of privacy.

Good luck!

duvander··on Dropbox’s hiring practices explain its disappointing lack of female employees
To really make this point, the author should have explained why these questions are biased toward men. It's not immediately obvious.
duvander··on How I saved $39,420 by not buying a domain without a prototype
Thanks. I didn't expect you guys to find me. :)
duvander··on How I saved $39,420 by not buying a domain without a prototype
Yeah, my numbers were inflated, but even with your numbers the point is the same: work on your idea first and only buy its home when you're ready to launch. Thanks for reading.
duvander··on Code.io: Fun, but incomplete, learn to code game
I didn't make it, I just stumbled across it while domain hunting.
duvander··on Ten Dollar Fonts
There are a bunch of ways these can't be used, including mobile apps and embedded on web pages: http://www.tendollarfonts.com/licenses/
duvander··on Hacker News Tech Hiring Trends
A higher percentage mentions of JavaScript without jQuery in 2013 than previously: http://www.ryan-williams.net/hacker-news-hiring-trends/?comp...
duvander··on Show HN: Python library to read and manage your Gmail
I really wish the username/password option wasn't supported. What use cases aren't possible with OAuth?
duvander··on Congressman blacks out his official .gov website
It's no longer blacked out, but you can see his post about it (with a screenshot) here: http://blumenauer.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&...
duvander··on Ceglia v. Zuckerberg returns, with a bang - biglaw representation, lots of email
Even if he'd given back the $2k, he'd still have a case if he was coerced with false information, wouldn't he?
duvander··on Ceglia v. Zuckerberg returns, with a bang - biglaw representation, lots of email
This is probably why he is claiming 50% of Zuckerberg's shares. Those have been diluted, but he has obviously maintained a huge portion of the company.
duvander··on Show HN: my weekend project, Gumroad
PayPal has a lower tier for sales under $12: https://merchant.paypal.com/cgi-bin/marketingweb?cmd=_render...

Still, you need to take fees into consideration. Also, the seller has to pay another PayPal fee when transferring the money every month.

duvander··on Dear Continental Airlines, you have a broken funnel
I don't know of a travel site that presents pricing the way The Economist did in the example from the TED talk. As a traveler I've never seen mention of TV options (paid, free, or otherwise) before booking.

The only way this works is if I already know about amenities. For example, I know Jet Blue has free TV, even though I've never flown on a Jet Blue flight. But that has more to do with word of mouth marketing than it does funnels or pricing pages.
