why not?
dumpHero2··on Nebula Sans
Or passing the income to it's creators
dumpHero2··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
manning the loo in a developed country would be a much higher expense, and that too if you can convince someone to do it.
dumpHero2··on How to stop Claude from saying load-bearing
7 mentions of "smoking gun" here so far!
dumpHero2··on Your 'app' could have been a webpage (so I fixed it for you)
I actually prefer apps because I don't have to wait for each page to load, initialize, see the UI shifting a 100 times. If I had to open webpages for things I use regularly, that would drive me insane. Maybe that says something about web dev standards
dumpHero2··on Re: I'm Begging You to Leave Your AI Note-Taker at Home
I've had medical students in the room when doctors do all kinds of checks. I somehow didn't have any reservations about that either.
dumpHero2··on Show HN: TikTok but for Scientific Papers
I've enjoyed consuming information about interested research papers on instagram, and insta has been good at showing me more of such content. But I think a dedicated platform would be great too! It takes such scientific content creators lots of time to create a script, hook, include animations or other visual aids and also put the research in perspective with it's potential implications in the long terms. I am not sure if AI would be able to do a good job (yet).

My $0.02 try creating an AI powered science channel on YT or insta before spending time on creating a dedicated app.

dumpHero2··on Control your attention on the web – Block sites on certain days and times
I like selfcontrolapp.com , been using it for a long time. There's no (straightforward) way to remove the block with this one, and it works on all the browsers.
dumpHero2··on DOGE puts $1 spending limit on government employee credit cards
You give a compelling argument. If the same strategy was being executed by someone else, I'd even consider giving it a thought. Heck, if the president was executing this independently, I'd still give him the benefit of doubt. But I don't trust Elon with what you're suggesting. He has nefarious motives.
dumpHero2··on After 20 years, math couple solves major group theory problem
Love this video!
dumpHero2··on 20 years of Google Scholar
I have similar feeing for Gmail (it's effective anti spam engine), google maps and google docs (which pioneered shared docs. It feels outdated on many fronts now, but it was a pioneer).
dumpHero2··on Nearly 40% of software engineers will only work remotely (2023)
+1 work - life separation is a must. And not everyone can afford a home office. Also isolation is a real threat.
dumpHero2··on What's inside the QR code menu at this cafe?
Will call you old fashioned for that. I recently went to a restaurant with a large group of friends and they used toast tab for online ordering. The experience was much better than ordering in person. Each family was able to order and pay for themselves. We could add extra items to our order whenever we wanted.

Without the app I would've had to keep an eye for a roaming waiter, call them out and then place an order. This takes away from the dining experience. I also don't like to wait for the server to clear plates, take the card, swipe it and get it back. The old fashioned ways will disappear for good.

dumpHero2··on Apple apologizes for iPad 'Crush' ad that 'missed the mark'
Anyone who's worked in "creative" field and has stepped in an art gallery would tell you that it's very normal to play on emotions, exaggerate and make viewers feel intense emotions. I don't know who the apology is meant for.

dumpHero2··on Robotic arms that assemble panels on solar farms
How did this become about immigration? A lot of americans would also do it for $20 an hour.

Lot of R&D, tech companies operate out of west. Improving tech in the west reduces the cost for the entire world.
dumpHero2··on Impacts of lid closure during toilet flushing
From what I remember, they put a toilet in a clean white empty room, and flushed some ink. Then they looked how far the ink spots splattered. But don't quote me on this.
dumpHero2··on Clicks – Physical keyboard for iPhone
If it gains any traction, you'd be able to get a fairly decent Temu version in about 6 months from now for $30.
dumpHero2··on Eating fewer calories can ward off ageing
Off topic, but I've been missing CSS & JS warriors on HN, who'd make it a point to expose how a certain hero image on the landing site was 4MB big or expose the scandalous use of an outdated version of jQuery on a S&P 500 company's website.
dumpHero2··on To revive Portland, officials seek to ban public drug use
It's naive to see religion as fairy tales. If used correctly, the tales are a medium of communication to instill values, discipline and morals in the masses.
dumpHero2··on The Sheep Incident (2008)
tldr; In 1968, the U.S. Army tested a deadly nerve agent called VX. The nerve agent killed thousands of sheep grazing near the testing site. The Army denied responsibility for the deaths. The article also details other instances of the Army mishandling dangerous chemicals.

dumpHero2··on iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus
Apple has consistently missed the boat on every major technical advancement, when compared to android. But when they do catch up, the quality is unmatched! Hoping the same with LLMs. I am sure they’re already working on it.
dumpHero2··on Guam: The America that Americans forget
Oh, they love a part of it. The part where they get the cheap labor, but not the part where they hang around for too long and start asking for human rights.
