Babou the ocelot was swiped from Archer the TV series: http://archer.wikia.com/wiki/Babou
drx··on Fab Lays Off More Than 100 Employees in Europe
> Nearly 70 of the employees are being laid off immediately, while the remainder have been asked to stay on for a few months through a transition period. Another 36 employees are being asked to relocate to New York from Berlin.

Does anyone know what the visa situation looks like for them?

Relocating 36 employees to the US can't be easy. There aren't any more H1B's this year and L1A's (and the equivalent green cards) can only be given to executives and managers. EB-2 maybe? Or L1B?

drx··on Twilio is erroneously over-billing and suspending accounts
This has gotta suck. Many cards have steep overdraft fees.

Does anyone a Stripe-like startup providing a service like this?
drx··on Send payouts with Stripe
You don't have to keep money in multiple countries, just be able to receive SWIFT and/or IBAN transfers.

Many banks in European countries don't charge anything for receiving any wires, including SWIFT, only sending them.

(the $15 fee is just for receiving any wire transfer, and is independent of the standard SWIFT fees)

drx··on Send payouts with Stripe
Being able to receive international bank transfers on Stripe would be amazing. Our bank charges us $15 per received wire.
drx··on Turing Drawings
It is obvious, yeah. I wasn't implying you didn't know it was or anything, just explaining the first sentence to someone who might not have studied complexity theory.
drx··on Turing Drawings
> Do we run into the limits of undecidability?

For this particular canvas, no, as the canvas is finite.

Given enough time or space we can exhaust all states of the canvas and catch cycles. This applies to any finite canvas.

I would guess these are equivalent to regular languages because of the finite state. You can treat the different canvas states as states of a finite automaton. A finite automaton is a canvas turing machine by ignoring the canvas.

Can you email me? Thailand related :)

My email's in my profile.

Could you please elaborate on this?

Try recovering the iPhoto files. Unless the data was overwritten, they might still be there.

Note: I've done this successfully on FAT and ext filesystems, not sure about HFS.

drx··on How accurate are Americans at estimating calories?
Interesting to see some evidence for my anecdotal experience that people severely overestimate McDonald's calorie counts (not to mention unhealthiness).

People look at me like I'm a crazy person when I tell them you could eat 4 cheeseburgers a day and still lose weight (provided you don't each much else, granted, but still).

I wonder if McDonald's ever ran any research on whether trying to reanchor their food as healthy would boost or hurt their sales.

drx··on Facebook Users Must Be Allowed To Use Pseudonyms, Says German Privacy Regulator
I guess you could make a case for FB being a de facto monopoly on connecting with friends and therefore needing to behave in certain consumer-friendly ways.

Alternatively, "you want to do business in our country, you must follow our rules".

Not that I agree.

drx··on No one-click unsubscribe? It's spam.
I agree.

The other day I had to unsubscribe out of two Yahoo! Japan newsletters that suddenly started to arrive (for two different accounts I've apparently made years before).

To unsubscribe I had to login to both. And for one I didn't even remember the password. Overall it took me half an hour to unsubscribe.

Also if I can't unsubscribe it goes to spam.

drx··on Snag.gy - Paste images directly to the web
I greatly prefer Droplr's workflow -- just press Alt+Shift+4 and a screenshot is uploaded and the link is placed in your clipboard. If someone made that without Droplr's issues, I'd switch in an instant.
drx··on Obama opposes House passage of H.R. 6429
> Billions of dollars could be raised by turning these into entrepreneur visas or charging per visa (it's not like the US doesn't already do this, but the price is way too low)

Every year a number of EB-5 visas go unclaimed (which cost around $550K per family).

drx··on High-skill green cards get lame-duck push in Congress
The funny thing about this is it wouldn't even benefit most people who hold a non-U.S. Master's degree.

U.S. Bachelor's degrees usually take 4 years to complete, after which a U.S. Master's degree takes 2 years.

Many non-U.S. bachelor's degrees take only 3 years and as a result, the USCIS deems having a 3 year Bachelor's + 2 year Master's as being unworthy of a U.S. Master's degree, instead equating it to a U.S. Bachelor's degree.

No it isn't.

If a remediable cause can be found (for example, depression and society's attitude towards it), the problem can go away.

You don't necessarily have to be good at running a company to be good at criticizing how others do it.

Same way you don't have to be a professional football player to commentate football.

I don't see why everyone is interested in blood sugar aide devices. I don't really give a crap about how much insulin my body produces, nor some BS about insulin resistance.
