What is exactly is meant by that?

dolzenko··on Fed Says Millennials Are Just Like Their Parents, Only Poorer
E.g. regime change in Russia, there is no "line" but people born in Soviet Union are very different from the ones born in modern day Russia
dolzenko··on Show HN: Websites in 2018
Things missing:

* (weird) scroll animation effects, like paragraphs appearing out of nowhere etc.

* Disqus/other comment section loading (with screwing other elements position)

dolzenko··on Nvidia Vid2vid: High-resolution photorealistic video-to-video translation
Cant wait someone to put Simpsons through this
dolzenko··on The scientists who starved to death surrounded by food
I think the OP point is about e.g. you and me most likely knowing about Kim Kardashian though never having an intention to so to speak :D
dolzenko··on More Americans report near-constant cannabis use
Not every, there are at least 22 above the US according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satisfaction_with_Life_Index
dolzenko··on People start hating their jobs at 35
For one person choosing adventure there must be at least ten watching him/her closely succeed/fail so in our current superconnected world I would assume not so happy stories are still preserved somewhere.
dolzenko··on YC’s 2018 Summer Reading List
Found it through this thread and it's great indeed. Worth keeping in mind author did commit suicide before his 50s though :/
dolzenko··on Use of drugs by people seeking to boost mental performance is rising worldwide
> I'll take ~5 less years of living as a geriatric in exchange for being able to better provide for a family.

Kind of a tradeoff you won't expect to be made in 1st world countries...

dolzenko··on An app that reads Wikipedia to teach you about cities you’re driving through
I want the same for street names I'm driving, is this available? E.g. short bio of the personality the street is named for. Given the track is known it can even select longer/shorter versions depending on how long you're going to stay on the given street :)
dolzenko··on Amazon employees protest sale of facial recognition tech to law enforcement

Have you just called all the (millions) of religions people insane?
dolzenko··on Larry Harvey, co-founder of Burning Man, has died
> anti-establishment, anti-consumerist

Can't help but feel there is something insincere in that statement, I mean somehow it seems like exactly the product of consumerist society to me (I mean the attendance cost, cost of setting up you "booth" (?) there), so I wonder if somebody feels the same/gave it more thought.

dolzenko··on Ask HN: Has anyone switched from being a night owl to being a morning person?
Yes, all it took me was intense 4 days ski trip where everyone gets up at 6AM and rides until 4PM, wasn't easy but I was surprised I was staying on this schedule effortlessly after coming home for a week or so (I had to switch back due to the work schedule).
dolzenko··on Autonomous braking: 'The most significant development since the safety belt'
Problem is everybody else have to behave similarly, otherwise other cards just take the place of that safe distance.
dolzenko··on The health care toll today’s work culture exacts on employees
Work surely was universal, but 2 things are very different now

1. Working outside (as mentioned) just doesn't compare with office job, i.e. it provides physical exercise, fresh air, being close to nature/animals. Now we're simulating all these things with gyms/vacations/zoos (I think the quality of such simulation is out of question?)

2. Work had to be done with your family, now there is no simulation for this in our society at all. And I would guess it was much better option than running as fast as we can (as most corporate people do) at 6:00PM, away from these annoying faces :)

dolzenko··on Repair cafés waging war on throwaway culture
Just curious - who are 'techie decompressionists'? :)
dolzenko··on REPL-Driven Development (2017)
Just a reminder to younger crowd Visual Studio had all this before (packaged in single app hence well-integrated and easy to install) probably for 15 years or longer.
dolzenko··on Reflections of a Lifelong Metalhead
Thank you, you just made me feel so old :)
dolzenko··on Survival of the Prettiest
> (As noted, she doesn’t get everything; once she and the male mate and part, she raises the offspring by herself.)

You can argue of course its genes of good scavenger that get selected for.

dolzenko··on FDA grants Breakthrough Therapy designation to MDMA for treatment of PTSD
Bit surprised why such news keep coming to the front page? I mean is there really much interest in psychology and especially PTSD treatment here or is it about drug use (doubt that, too)?
dolzenko··on Let’s hear it for the four-hour working day
Also advocated by Bertrand Russell in his In Praise of Idleness http://www.zpub.com/notes/idle.html
dolzenko··on 80-year Harvard study has been showing how to live a healthy and happy life
Was always a fan of his essay "In Praise of Idleness" [1] but never bothered to check if he had more to say on the subject of happiness in general, interesting read, thank you!

dolzenko··on Don’t Let Facebook Make You Miserable
Tl;dr - reading FB makes you jealous so quit and read popular Google search requests instead and be happy about how big a mess everybody else in fact is.
