dkonofalski··on Cybertruck Launch
And what does that have to do with the people buying those cars now? It would be one thing if people were buying those cars and that was still going on. That's why this is different.
dkonofalski··on Apple Plans Ambitious iOS 18 and macOS 15 Updates, Seeks to Squash Bugs
This is purely anecdotal. My experience, also anecdotal, is that I've used Macs for 30 years and have never had an OS update corrupt a computer and I've never had to do a "factory reset". I always transfer from computer to computer (either directly or via a Time Machine backup) and I buy a new MacBook at least every other year (I keep separate personal and work computers also). I've never had any problems that weren't fixed by a restart or that weren't specific to one piece of software.

Wouldn't their interest be in the opposite? Wouldn't they want people to think that doctors have the answers rather than doctors failing at helping with mental health issues?
dkonofalski··on Apple unveils M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max
This is where I am. I have several PCs, a 15" Intel MBP, a 16" M2 Max MBP, an M2 MBA, and a 14" M1 Pro MBP. If I didn't have to use the PCs, I wouldn't because of how good the Macs have been for me. My team and I do a combination of web/app development, media production, and 2D/3D graphics. While we won't be replacing our PC towers anytime soon, our laptops are going to be Macs going forward with the exception of testing on the PCs we have. I can run Autodesk Fusion 360 and Blender on my MBA well enough that it makes no sense for us to force ourselves onto the more mediocre experience.

What a weird take. Literally every "tech" company is chasing Apple's silicon but you are trying to claim that they're not a tech company. Let me guess, iPhones and iPads aren't tech either, right?
dkonofalski··on Apple unveils M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max
Aren't the new 16" laptops the same dimensions as the old 15" ones? I thought the 16" display was simply because they were able to shrink the bezels on the display enough to get an extra inch on the diagonal. Other than the rounding on the edges, my M2 16" Pro feels about the same size as my old Intel 15" one.
dkonofalski··on I Can Hear You Fine. Is It Rude That I'm Still Wearing AirPods?
>Don't try and have it both ways that no one can talk to you, but others must listen to you.

I never said that and, frankly, based on the way you're responding elsewhere, I don't believe anything that you're saying. If it bothers you so much that this person is complaining about the pizza, maybe point out that they didn't hear it because of their AirPods (although I'm pretty sure this didn't happen). I work with a multi-generational team and we've never had this problem so, to me, it seems like you're the entitled, insufferable one and people don't listen to you. Sometimes, that means they miss out on pizza. Most of the time, they're probably missing out on condescension, resentment, and whatever other insufferable things you have to say.

dkonofalski··on I Can Hear You Fine. Is It Rude That I'm Still Wearing AirPods?
I've never seen or heard anyone who wears AirPods complain that they missed a part of a conversation they cared about. I think you're just lying now.

>Shut your hole about the results of not listening and be responsible for your self absorbed arrogance that no one has value but yourself and everything will be fine. Sulk in the corner that you missed out.

Also, yeah... you're totally not angry and entitled... it's totally everyone else...

dkonofalski··on I Can Hear You Fine. Is It Rude That I'm Still Wearing AirPods?
I think this is the most accurate response here. It'll become more commonplace as people realize that it improves conversations to use that mode just like having a smart-watch improved most people's lives enough to wear that it's now accepted.
dkonofalski··on I Can Hear You Fine. Is It Rude That I'm Still Wearing AirPods?
>What you seem to miss out on is the same people that leave their ear dangles in also don't offer those social queues and the ones they do offer are ambiguous.

Did you ever consider that they're not offering those social cues because they're not interested in what you have to say? You sound like you're having a one-sided conversation with a wall and then getting mad that the wall isn't paying you the "proper" respect. I have never been unsure of whether someone was listening to me with AirPods. If I was, I'd ask them and would know immediately or else I wouldn't waste my time. Not everyone has to hear what you have to say.

dkonofalski··on I Can Hear You Fine. Is It Rude That I'm Still Wearing AirPods?
Elmer Fudd yells at cloud. More at 11.

This sounds like a generational gap. I'm with the youngsters on this one. If you can't tell if someone is engaging with you then why are you in the conversation to begin with? No one is forcing you to engage with people wearing AirPods and if you feel like they're not listening to you or showing "proper" focus (whatever that is), then leave. In other words, act the same way you would expect others to act if you were wearing AirPods and not listening to them.

Surely you meant 'farce'.

dkonofalski··on Schools Report Bomb Threats Following Libs of TikTok Anti-LGBTQ Posts
You seem to equate one-off incidents with patterns. That makes anything in the links you've posted pretty meaningless.
dkonofalski··on Vivaldi on iOS
That's not a fact. All browsers on iOS use the same rendering engine. The differences between them are all in the UI and other front-end features. That doesn't make Safari superior to them, especially since they're all starting off with the same base rendering. Anything outside of that can easily be better than Safari.
dkonofalski··on Control Center on macOS is always re-rendering its SwiftUI causing 1% CPU load
It's not a backslide, though. Control Center has never been accessible by keyboard and neither is the menu bar unless an app has a specific shortcut key.
dkonofalski··on Valve releases Counter-Strike 2
I know that the Mac gaming crowd isn't huge but this bums me out. My MacBook Pro and MacBook Air were both completely sufficient for playing games when my gaming PC was inaccessible and CS was one of those games. It's a shame they seem to have killed it. :(
dkonofalski··on Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses
As someone in that cohort, the number of people that feel the same way as me is nearly non-existent. The only people that seem to share the sentiment are my parents and my older colleagues. I have an Apple Watch primarily to avoid having to take my phone out while still being able to see important notifications (I love the focus mode stuff) so I'm not some kind of anti-tech ideologue either. Most other people are not only used to phones being out and around but the vast majority have no qualms about it.
dkonofalski··on macOS Containers v0.0.1
Then I wonder why the parent comment mentioned OrbStack as if it were somehow comparable or an alternative to this.
dkonofalski··on Control Center on macOS is always re-rendering its SwiftUI causing 1% CPU load
You mean like every other OS? On Windows, you have to press the Win button, go to Settings, tab over to Network, tab over to Wifi.

If you were such a keyboard expert, you'd know that you can 1. Press Cmd+Space 2. Type 'wifi' 3. Do whatever you need to do.

Yes, but 1Password standalone is missing many of the features of the subscription service that would be impossible to implement without it.
dkonofalski··on macOS Sonoma is available today
As long as you're comfortable self-hosting and admining, that shouldn't be a problem.
dkonofalski··on Control Center on macOS is always re-rendering its SwiftUI causing 1% CPU load
In fairness, none of the options present in Control Center are exclusive to it. Everyone one of the options is available in System Preferences (with full keyboard support) or elsewhere.
dkonofalski··on Control Center on macOS is always re-rendering its SwiftUI causing 1% CPU load
Looks like it only applies to people who have the time set to display seconds.
dkonofalski··on macOS Containers v0.0.1
I'm not sure if you were arguing against the parent comment or supporting it but did you actually mean "/" and not "~/"?
dkonofalski··on macOS Containers v0.0.1
I feel like you're assuming that applications have to be honest about what they are when they request a user-prompted permission. SIP makes that irrelevant.
dkonofalski··on macOS Containers v0.0.1
Does OrbStack allow you to create MacOS Containers? It doesn't seem like it from their website. It seems like it just runs on MacOS to let you create Linux containers.

I reluctantly upgraded to the subscription for 1Pass after the last OS update but I'm glad I did. The features that the 1Pass team has added since then as well as the fact that the subscription includes apps for all their platforms has already paid itself off in my eyes.

PDF Annotation is already a system-wide OS-level feature thanks to Preview so you should be able to.
