djmips··on Kids turned low-traffic NPR Spotify comments into a secret group chat
terminal were the OG dark mode. Nice hack to get around that!
djmips··on Sonnet 5.5
> you'd have a loop of build->review->build->review, it would take maybe 5-7 rounds for it to 'settle' and not find the smallest nitpicks to argue about.

You sure that wasn't just working at Microsoft?

djmips··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
Perhaps demand is going down abroad due to people eschewing US products.

note that unless you've de-anonymized your text - your own idosyncracies might be enough with other clues you've left to figure out who you are IRL
djmips··on Coding is not solved
And another corollary is the formerly golden lazy and clever are also transformed into lazy and productive because they no longer need to apply their cleverness to get results...
djmips··on Owed a billion dollars in Nvidia stock
I don't have the same story but I did turn down a job offer from Nvidia in '97 which I think about from time to time.
djmips··on Writing Efficient C++ Code (2013)
Semantics - not worth me arguing about
djmips··on Writing Efficient C++ Code (2013)
You really aren't in the "premature optimization bad" camp you just don't realize you optimize all the time but justify it as obvious. The main thing to know is that what is 'obvious' isn't unless you are profiling.
djmips··on Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity
Ok.
djmips··on Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity
I'm not making a claim for a significant health benefit from 0.5g of creatine I'm just countering your bald claim that it's insignficant - we are getting into word lawyer territory. But anyway to establish what I'm claiming, 0.5g of creatine, I feel, is a useful amount - the numbers you are fixated on are for athletes or neurotropic nerds.

"Although the human body produces a portion of its daily creatine needs, approximately 50 % must be obtained through the diet – predominantly from animal-based foods like red meat and fish"

So in that context, a vegetarian can benefit from small amounts of supplementation if they aren't getting it in their diet.

djmips··on Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity
Creatine is not available from plants and the 0.5 g is not insignficant for normal health. The 5 grams you're quoting is generally for people who supplement for athletic performance.

Creatine is created within the body so a vegetarian eating plant precursors can help create their own baseline supply.

djmips··on Seattle Bans Rental Junk Fees
You think you know that ADHD children cost other renters significant money? Have you raised children? ( It wouldn't surprise me at all if you haven't )
djmips··on Spymarks, Not Watermarks
OT (Off-Topic) It just occured to me that the PS1 disc protection scheme is a form of steganography.
djmips··on Seattle Bans Rental Junk Fees
"may include" - do you really want to argue the side that ADHD children exist in a proportion that damage apartments that noticably increase the cost on tenants without children? Is that what your imagined ADHD child is doing, just ripping apart the walls?
djmips··on Seattle Bans Rental Junk Fees
You don't seem to know what ADHD is.
djmips··on Pirate Face Rescues LLM Models from Deletion
A question that comes up in my mind, since I don't fully understand how this works, is how does this affect runtime performance. It feels like abliterated weight models would work faster than some extra runtime operations?

djmips··on Can you tell which images are AI-generated?
Well I guess it's good that I picked AI image for every image...
djmips··on A graphical desktop for the ZX Spectrum
For an 8 bit Z80 based hardware project like this, assembly is a valid choice. The reason is performance. You'll lose significant performance with a compiler or interpreter.
djmips··on Recreating Voodoo Graphics and a Late-1990s Gaming PC on an FPGA
If you draw front to back that could handle some of that - it does have a Z buffer.
djmips··on Show HN: I made a flight simulator, except you're just a passenger
ahhh your phone crashed! I was a bit confused for a moment... Could you imagine if the airplane crashed like 1 in every million plays?! :O

djmips··on How to buy a good car for $1000
Toyota Echo - perhaps the car car ever made.
djmips··on Show HN: Clawfight.ai MCP-driven agentic game play
Ok here's an idea for your agentic arena. Robot coding battles. Start simple and look for inspiration from Apple II Robot War. Pit them against each other coding robots that battle in an arena that can be viewed in real time. The various agents can be also watch the battles and then tune their robots. Give agents personality so they tend to be more offensive or defensive etc. Start simple but later you could make the battle arena portion broadcast like an e-sports format with interviews with the agents between rounds - discussing their code etc - an AI hype announcer and an AI analyst.
djmips··on How the Chorleywood Bread Process transformed British bread
They are not being sarcastic. My grandparents lived in a place like this - the old ways have been forgotten by most but in my family you only have to go back two generations before it's all pretty much living off the land...

djmips··on Astra for Coding: Why Are We Doing This Again?
Perhaps you could have just written it yourself.
djmips··on Astra for Coding: Why Are We Doing This Again?
have you ever worked for a big company where that's the status quo for any tiny change... hours on _full test suites_ over and over again.
djmips··on Astra for Coding: Why Are We Doing This Again?
Yeah it's a funny thing - a lot of the things you need to feed the model are things that actually would have helped humans...
