djengineerllc··on Assembly Nights
Great, now I'm going to try learning to program in NASM. Definitely a great article!
djengineerllc··on CSS Hell: Common CSS mistakes, and how to fix them
Very good article! Thanks!!
djengineerllc··on Yield return in C#
I like this article. It was very well laid out. I've already added a new card to my Trello board for taking a look at implementing "yield" in our software application.
djengineerllc··on Ask HN: Why has nobody built a better Wordpress?
I wish they had a good system for setting up and managing user roles.
djengineerllc··on Is ReactJS really fast?
Nice, cito.js shows really nice performance.
djengineerllc··on Sick systems: how to keep someone with you forever
I would think so too. The mentioned strategies seem sociopathic.
djengineerllc··on Sick systems: how to keep someone with you forever
Wow, this is a great article!
djengineerllc··on Famous Engine – JavaScript library for animations and interfaces
Yeah, I found this pretty cool as well. Plus from inside the iframe you can keep navigating to the Learn tutorial page over and over again inside laptops and create a cool snake like laptop, lol.
djengineerllc··on Ask HN: What percentage of your company are the engineers?
Let's see, there are about 40 employees where I work and I'm the only developer and engineer, so that is 2.5%.
djengineerllc··on People, stop using “element AND id” jquery selectors
I wonder if this is situationally dependent?
djengineerllc··on DOT.tk – what's up
Seems to be working through my Charter ISP, but not my work's AT&T ISP still.
djengineerllc··on DOT.tk – what's up
Thanks david! I did a tracert on their IP of 213.206.98.165 and I get out of our AT&T firewall, we get to something that is telia.net, then to atom86.net, then we get to 213.133.37.246 and then it times out.

Looks like their IP block is in the Netherlands when I check whois w/ ripe.net (https://apps.db.ripe.net/search/query.html).

The ip block for dot.tk is 213.206.98.160 - 213.206.98.175.

When I check the IP of where the tracert stops at IS Core Network in the Netherlands.

Maybe there is a certain router that is down in which I can't hop to.

Looks like (IS Core Network in the Netherlands) is cloud hosting.

I tweeted the cloud hosting company with the issue and info.

IsItUp is now showing www.dot.tk (54.230.206.33) and dot.tk both as being up. I still can't get to it yet.

Looks like a lot traffic over there: http://www.akamai.com/html/technology/dataviz1.html, but couldn't really see anything causing my issue yet.

Verified that someone else out there on Twitter has the same issue. Yeah, I'm not crazy! :P

And this is just cool: http://cybermap.kaspersky.com/

djengineerllc··on DOT.tk – what's up
Ok, I can get to it from a proxy location of the Netherlands, but not from the US or Germany.

So now isitup.org shows dot.tk up at an ip of 213.206.98.165. It shows www.dot.tk as being down.

djengineerllc··on The Commodore 65
Nice, lol
djengineerllc··on Everything you need to know about the Shellshock Bash bug
I tried this and it didn't work on my Ubuntu machine, it echoed "stuff". env X="() { :;} ; echo busted" /bin/sh -c "echo stuff"

But then I tried this command and it echoed "vulnerable". env var='() { ignore this;}; echo vulnerable' bash -c /bin/true

djengineerllc··on Show HN: Fail2web, a fail2ban GUI
So this looks like it will be pretty neat. I have it compiled and running. It seems to be mostly working. I did run into some issues.

Like for instance, in the bundle.js file there is a line of code that has this "$window.location.origin + '/config.json'"

the window.location.origin is not supported in IE. You may want to add something like this to your javascript for IE support:

if (!window.location.origin) { window.location.origin = window.location.protocol + "//" + window.location.hostname + (window.location.port ? ':' + window.location.port: ''); }

Also, when I try to add an IP to ban, I am getting an error "Unable to get property 'indexOf' of undefined or null reference".

After looking at it, it looks like I'm getting an empty IPList from the fail2rest api.

So the code dies here "activeJail.data.IPList.indexOf(ipAddress) === -1" since the IPList is null. Maybe I have something misconfigured for the fail2rest, but I'm am not currently sure yet.

Also, the adding and deleting of regexes does work fine! :)

UPDATE: Looks like my updates are not working, but the reading of the config file is working. I'm thinking it might be something with my fail2rest...

djengineerllc··on How to fix HeartBleed on Ubuntu and CentOS
Also don't forget to update SSL with any applications running on the server. OpenVPN for instance uses it's own SSL libraries that need updating libcrypto.so.1.0.0.1 and libssl.so.1.0.0.1. Make sure you update your certificates everywhere too.
djengineerllc··on Ask HN: What are the reasons not to go into computer science?
You lose your life in the consumption of programming knowledge and development
djengineerllc··on Ask HN: Which tool you use to create wireframes?
This is always a good one: https://www.mybalsamiq.com/
djengineerllc··on Ask HN: Does anyone know what's going on at Coinbase?
I've had a pending payment transaction to a couple places for about a week now. :( Still waiting....
djengineerllc··on Blocking China IP Address Blocks
I'm using fail2ban on one of our linux servers. I have a bunch of fail2ban reports that I can run that lists all ips being blocked, how they were blocked, etc. A lot of times if we get multiple ips being blocked from china (and elsewhere) on the same subnet, I'll just block the entire subnet.
