djanogo··on Speeding up Go's built-in JSON encoder for large arrays of objects
What is "large"?
djanogo··on Anti-racism betrays Asian students
"..disproportionate share of the public. They've been getting it because helicopter parents are pushy"

What degenerate world are we living in, parents wanting their children to succeed and do what they know is causing _you_ to discriminate them for their success?

djanogo··on Google mandates workers back to Silicon Valley, other offices from April 4
Does your company have web app where employee can choose what they prefer, submit it, and done?, or bunch of management have to approve that request?
djanogo··on My smart home 2021: A Home Assistant love story
I have few more things to add...

1. There is one specific "addon" developer/employee who wraps opensource docker containers and automates the releases through github release builds and proceeds to link the about page of addon to his donation page. Example: Nodered, InfluxDB, AirSonos/Cast addons in HA have no link to actual projects or their repos.

2. Absolutely have no standard for stability for what should be critical software, just check the number of production releases to end customer devices this month. EIGHT, yes they pushed eight releases to core app to end users, that's beside the "addon" updates that the guy does with his automated releases.

3. Thanksgiving week of 2021, they pushed a ZWave update which the guy rewrote how events are processed and proceeded to brick everybody who updated.

4. F*ckin forced OS update, the developer refuses to be able to turn off forced HASS OS updates. If you block the update hostname on your router the stupid script to check updates goes crazy and starts eating up CPU.

djanogo··on Gmail – A New Integrated Layout
They had right button panel and top right app menu button which shows panel of icons, I guess those are projects under different teams?, so new team starts adding panel on left side.

The design reflects team/org chart, just as you would expect in a big org.

djanogo··on Temporal raises $103M in Series B funding
If there is no DB how will company go about collecting metrics?, in your example what would the process to query on number of abandoned carts or after how long or after adding which product did they abandon the cart?
djanogo··on Tell HN: Wyze cam forcing upgrade to keep storing recordings locally
Oh you skipped the part of the mail which said they couldn't pay cloud storage anymore and almost went bankrupt.
djanogo··on Get mock interviews now, pay when you find your next job
Makes sense, thanks for clarification. But there could be people who are some where in between you and not-qualified, whom this site might be helpful, it's connecting people for specific purpose.

The site says you can request somebody from FAANG for mock interview, without knowing quality of these interviews, I assume that would require this company pay for their time.

djanogo··on Get mock interviews now, pay when you find your next job
>Manufacture some demand, and you have a low effort company

What do you mean by that?

djanogo··on Feds arrest couple, seize $3.6B in hacked Bitcoin funds
If he goes somewhere which doesn't have extradition, FED's will just call him and tell him they will go public that he has $4B bitcoin and ALL criminals will be hunting them after that.
djanogo··on Can no longer view websites on smart display
Curious question to any googlers on here, do engineers ever refuse to push code change which disables a feature like this?, do you get to push back on changes and ask anybody asking for this to get approval from higher up or in-general create bureaucracy/resistance against user hostile changes?
djanogo··on Wall Street was the real winner of the GameStop saga
I used to visit WSB 5 or 6 years back, whenever I visit it now it all seems to be millionaires pumping their positions in separate trading account as "YOLO" trade trying to get dumb people to pump the stock.

All WSB does now is magnify the winners/pumpers while leaving trail of poor people without their money.

djanogo··on Israel is having its Edward Snowden moment
Why did Russia of all the countries give him asylum?

Genuinely curious on what Snowden thinks on how Russian gov handles their dissenters compared to US.

djanogo··on $256M in ETH stolen from cross-chain protocol Wormhole
$10M is a LOT, I wonder how he will trust them to pay. Once they get their coins back people can change minds.
djanogo··on Gmail’s next big redesign starts rolling out next week
I never seen a designer, even in a small company, with out multiple high-end monitors.

Even if they start without expensive setup they will see their peers in office and will match their setup pretty soon.

djanogo··on Normalized crash data shows Autopilot is much less safe than Tesla claims
They should adjust for car-age and price.
djanogo··on Normalized crash data shows Autopilot is much less safe than Tesla claims
It can't be just any "average driver", they should be compared against "average driver" who just bought $40-50K NEW car.
djanogo··on Gmail’s next big redesign starts rolling out next week
They should force all designers to only use 15/16 screen sizes, maybe then they will add options to allow UI fragments to be collapsible or hidden.
djanogo··on Run Your Home on a Raspberry Pi
Nope, no OEM wants to make that, not enough market for it. However you can buy NVMe to 6xSATA adapter, but your case might not fit those drives,

I planned on buying NVMe extension cable, cut a slit in case, run the cable outsidde, plug in NVMe to 6xSATA adapter outside of the case and keep the SSD's outside, this would need reliable external power supply for SSD (Amazon sells them for ~$30, but I don't trust them).

I believe you will get to ~10-15w with this setup, at which rate you could build regular ITX/MATX case to hold all SSD's with i3-10100 and be at ~16w idle.

djanogo··on Run Your Home on a Raspberry Pi
Cool, and your elitedesk I believe comes with remote BIOS access with Intel vPro, that's even cooler, never have to plugin display.
djanogo··on Run Your Home on a Raspberry Pi
Did you read the part which says "micro", these are about 2-3x the size of Pi with those cheap plastic cases. I had mine beside the router before I moved it inside TV console.

Pi will be single purpose device, the "micro" can be full blown server and comes with ALL parts required, no need to hunt for good PSU, case, cooling, storage. Some of them come with 1 Sata and 2x M.2 NVMe, so you can literally pass those NVMe to TrueNAS in proxmox and run full blown NAS with encryption/encoding/decoding in VM.

djanogo··on Run Your Home on a Raspberry Pi
Ya it's possible to build a fanless system, but Apple or any OEM with those parts is not going to sell you that system <$100. Not with out of the box compatibility with every x86 software out there.

The fan ramps based on usage, as I said, Ubuntu server with HASS OS, VS Code Server, Netdata monitoring, NodeRed, Sonos Airplay, InfluxDB and few other containers, it's barely gets to 2% CPU usage and CPU temp at 25C.

Look at Pi, they have been at it for SO many years and that shit is slow with no real storage interface, they are only faster compared to their own previous generation.

djanogo··on Run Your Home on a Raspberry Pi
Barely audible, you have to have your ear <1ft from it to hear the hum.
djanogo··on Run Your Home on a Raspberry Pi
It's the twice the size of Pi with case, not sure what's "massive" about it.
djanogo··on Run Your Home on a Raspberry Pi
Better yet, run your home on Dell/HP micro computers that get decommissioned by enterprises/hospitals/big-orgs every 3 years. Find them on Offerup or FB or Craigslist market place for $100-$200.

These are built solid with metal enclosures, fan cooled, UL certified PSU, ~7k CPUbenchmark.net. Usually i5 6thGen Intel CPU, 8GB-16GB RAM and have REAL storage(SSD) and M.2 NVMe. If you are lucky you might find vPro version with remote management.

Currently running a HP G2 bought on Offerup for $70 with i5-6600T, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD running Ubuntu server with HomeAssistant VM and few containers. It idles at 7w, with <2% CPU for my work load.

I tried Raspberry Pi with HomeAssistant with it's piss poor antique storage solution, it idled at 5W, it went straight back to store.

djanogo··on iPhones will soon accept contactless payments directly, says report
Starting this year IRS will potentially tax you for any money over $600 received through apps (Venmo/Zelle/Paypal).
djanogo··on Node-Red
I have similar process setup as original poster, instead of MQTT, I use home assistant Node-RED pallete which exposes all home assistant entities to nodered.

Node-RED automation is SO much better than home assistant automation or Huggins, ability to deploy modified flows when nodes on same flow are kept running is AMAZING!, makes dev cycle so much faster.

I use home assistant's builtin zwave, homekit controller, homekit bridge, Sonos, and InfluxDB, everything else is commented out. It's all running on used $50 HP Prodesk G2 with Ubuntu server with HASSOS in VM, VS.Code server in docker. Uses about 7 watts/hr.

Why not use Firefox builtin uBlock cloud sync and just copy paste filters from this site?, instead of creating account for this website.
djanogo··on COVIDtests.gov – Free at-home Covid-19 tests
Did people who wanted to get vaccinated not find doses in stock?, just because tests in some warehouse expired doesn't mean they were hidden to stop their usage.
djanogo··on In Defense of Bradford Pear (2021)
Had one which was over 10 years old in my backyard, it's HARD to maintain because of the way it grows. It grows fast, dense, and tall with too many limbs which are too weak, because of how dense it is it catches all the wind, even moderate wind sounds like a storm when you are beside it, and is VERY prone to breaking.

And the f*kin needles which are SHARP and can get over 2 or 3 inches long are dangerous and a pain when trimming branches.

F this tree, I would take any native state tree over these.
