discreditable··on 5.5 mm in 1.25 nanoseconds
I am blown away by the wafer of Xbox 360 CPUs hanging on this guy's wall. That was a kingly gift!
discreditable··on Great AA Alkaline Battery Test (2016)
I have some similar Li-ion AA batteries for my Blink cameras. They work very well since the Blinks hate ni-mh batteries. Interestingly, these behave oddly in my camera speedlite. They can't seem to charge the flash, and the LCD flickers while on. My best guess is the charging the flash capacitor pulls more juice than the lithium batteries can handle. Thankfully, ni-mh work great.

For your Ni-mh that stop working, if they won't charge you can sort of jump start them using a good battery and they'll charge again. Use some aluminum foil strips and touch the contacts between the batteries together for a few seconds. Positive to positive, negative to negative if I remember correctly.

discreditable··on U.S. State Department phones hacked with Israeli company spyware
Funny enough this reminds me of the ransomware that doesn't work if a cyrillic keyboard is installed. https://krebsonsecurity.com/2021/05/try-this-one-weird-trick...
discreditable··on Ideal Monitor Rotation for Programmers
Same here. In the circumstances where I need multiple things up at once I use Windows' window tiling features to arrange things as I need. They even made this functionality better in Windows 11. I'm a big proponent of using one good monitor over any number of other monitors.

One thing that cracks me up is how many of my users request multiple monitor setups, but look at the keyboard while they type.

discreditable··on The HTML video element needs to go back on the drawing board
> tech staff with skills to deliver HTML video

A big one that hits small sites I think is simply tech staff with the ability to properly encode HTML video. You lose them as soon as you say vp9, h264, or av1.

discreditable··on Long-term NAEP scores for 13-year-olds drop for first time since testing began
Learning Styles and other silver bullet education things tend to be pushed hard by clueless administrators. The teachers I work with have been calling it BS from the start.
discreditable··on Canon sued for disabling scanner when printers run out of ink
I switched to OEM toner after using up some generic stuff I'd been working on for two years. It's barely more expensive and it was nice they included a prepaid shipping label for me to return the used cartridge to them.
discreditable··on Canon sued for disabling scanner when printers run out of ink
Not on my MFC-L2740DW at least. I've used generic toner from Monoprice just fine.
discreditable··on Dithered images and websites (2020)
With ImageMagick, you can use -colors to reduce the number of colors in the image. You don't even have to go down to 256 colors. This will usually make photos larger in size, but drawings/graphics can be smaller.
discreditable··on Do not leave XPS laptop in any sleep/hibernate/standby mode when placed in a bag
I've seen issues with Modern Standby on my fleet of Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga L13 and L13 Gen 2. Usually everything is fine, but sometimes they get super hot in standby as well. It's like something is keeping the CPU awake but the rest of the hardware is asleep (including the fans). My older units (ThinkPad Yoga 260, ThinkPad Yoga 370, ThinkPad L380 Yoga, ThinkPad L390 Yoga) never had any problem like this because they don't support Modern Standby.

It's very annoying that MS doesn't allow us any way to disable Modern Standby. OEMs still haven't figured out how to make old school sleep perfectly reliable. Springing a new standby model on them was doomed to be just troublesome.

discreditable··on Email Authenticity 101: DKIM, Dmarc, and SPF
Send a test to test@yaboo.com and see. I originally noticed it because of Yahoo doing it on misspellings of their domain.
discreditable··on Email Authenticity 101: DKIM, Dmarc, and SPF
Another tip for domains that don't send email: set a null mx record. This explicitly tells sending servers that your domain does not receive mail, and isn't just broken. Create an mx record priority 0, with a dot (.) for the value.

discreditable··on End of an Era: NTSC Finally Goes Dark in America
One of the interesting things I've noticed is that (around here at least) the over-the-air TV is much higher quality than the local providers (cable and fiber). The local providers streams are noticeably bit starved to me, while OTA looks quite good.
discreditable··on Some Schools Are Blocking Replit to Prevent Kids from Coding
I would not be surprised. A lot of my fellow schools insist on blocking the command prompt and powershell. I've tried explaining that there is nothing they can do with those tools which can't be done without them.

There is a real fear amongst some schools that cmd/psh and programming tools can be used for hacking.

discreditable··on Forever chemicals are widespread in U.S. drinking water
Yes, definitely don't drink Peroxide!

More common than you think. PowerSchool is a major Student Info System. Tomcat on Windows.

discreditable··on CentOS Stream, or Debian?
With Ubuntu, anything not in the main repo (universe, etc) doesn't get security updates.

From personal experience, I've broken way more ubuntu installs on a release-upgrade than I have on debian (zero).

discreditable··on macOS Big Sur Update Bricking Some Older MacBook Pro Models
I use Windows but I jump on every new release. I like new stuff and I have backups. If it goes bad I just reformat and restore. I have only been burned once.
discreditable··on Super-spreading wedding demonstrates Covid-19 risk posed by holiday gatherings
I would really like to abstain but my family doesn't take covid seriously and would likely ostracize me. I've tried to explain that I work in a school and I'm the most likely in our group to be carrying, but that doesn't go far with them.
discreditable··on Pixel 5 review: Google spends its bill-of-materials budget unwisely
Google's tech support had my wife factory reset her Pixel 2 for charging problems. Big surprise it did not fix it. We ended up trading in for credit to upgrade to a Pixel 3a, which she still has.
discreditable··on The impact of school shutdown on sleep in adolescents: a natural experiment
Also so students are at school before parents need to be at work. School is child care for a lot of parents.
discreditable··on Dell Adding Hardware Privacy Driver for Linux
They may be wired to the power line. I think the goal is more to give the kernel some way to know the mic/camera is explicitly disabled and not disconnected/missing/broken.
discreditable··on How Discord Won
There is something magical about this onboarding flow. Discord join links make it very easy for outsiders to hop in. My introduction to Discord was playing League of Legends several years ago. People would send links to their voice channels so teams could communicate. I clicked and voice chatted (in my web browser no less!). After doing that a few times I felt Discord was pretty cool so I registered and installed the Desktop client.
