I'd believe this true if any of the large cities I have lived in actually had competition between ISPs.
This is why the automotive Youtube "celebs" are launching GTCon a convention for car enthusiasts to get fans to meet them IRL and buy merch!
Why bother developing in that space when you can just buy whichever startup matures to the largest market share? Throw those engineers somewhere else.
