difosfor··on AI godfather Yann LeCun: Anthropic CEO deluded, doesn't understand cybersecurity
Very short article; just a quote really. Reader mode works but here’s archive link to bypass paywall: https://archive.is/eOu09
difosfor··on Show HN: Sfsym – Export Apple SF Symbols as Vector SVG/PDF/PNG
But these are copyright by Apple so are you allowed to use them on your commercial websites and apps?
difosfor··on Lenovo’s new ThinkPads score 10/10 for repairability
Am i the only one wondering if i could use that replacement keyboard as an external USB or even Bluetooth keyboard somehow? It looks nice and lightweight for carrying on the go with my laptop stand.
difosfor··on Show HN: DevicePrint – device fingerprinting without cookies
Perhaps he's posted this here to get some more test data
difosfor··on I build products to get "unplugged" from the internet
OK. What products?
difosfor··on Pentagon moves to punish Democratic senator over 'seditious video'
I wish there was an unflag vote option
difosfor··on Blob Opera, Community Edition
Works on iOS Safari
difosfor··on Apple has locked my Apple ID, and I have no recourse. A plea for help
This should be illegal. What about normal people affected like this. He at least still stands a chance given his position.
difosfor··on Show HN: Fanfa – Interactive and animated Mermaid diagrams
I don't see anything animated except a bit on load? I don't get it. This is on iOS Safari.
difosfor··on Apple will phase out Rosetta 2 in macOS 28
What about the newer games that are maintained, just not supported on anything but windows?
difosfor··on US tariff negotiations with Canada terminated over advertisement
Why is this flagged? BBC seems like a trustworthy news source to me? I guess it might not be just due to the ad, but still it's a peculiar situation that's of interest to the world.
difosfor··on Six surgeons general: It's our duty to warn the nation about RFK Jr
Since when is MAGA calling the shots here? I'm surprised to see this flagged. Can simple users like me counter such flagging by upcoming the posts?
difosfor··on Migrating a JavaScript Project from Prettier and ESLint to BiomeJS
Biome is still missing support for lots of eslint plugins that I like so I ended up with Biome plus just those cherry picked ESLint plugins and rules. It's not great..

https://voidzero.dev/ is also working on https://oxc.rs/ sounding nice since I already enjoy vite and it seems to have some funding but I fear it'll end up likewise..

difosfor··on US Civil servants are being asked who they voted for in 2024 election
Isn't it illegal to force people to tell who they voted for? That seems like one of the most basic democratic freedoms to protect.
difosfor··on DEF CON's hacker-in-chief faces fortune in medical bills
I wonder if he'll start hacking health insurance companies next.
difosfor··on Show HN: I Made a Dumb Game
If you open the page in a background tab (e.g: ctrl click) and leave it running for a while before switching to that tab then you start at a high speed immediately
difosfor··on Splash pads are fountains of fecal material; CDC reports 10K illnesses
What's wrong with just wearing some comfortable slippers indoors?
difosfor··on Company claims 1k% price hike drove it from VMware to open source rival
So Broadcom is basically just milking VMware until it completely dies? I guess you should always consider the risk of a company buying a product you use and then doing this
difosfor··on Dev Starter Pack: The essential startup starter kit
Reads more like an ad than a true recommendation by and for devs?
difosfor··on Amazon says workers must be in the office. The UK government disagrees
It seems like this is something that warrants a personal approach? Just ask what employees would like to do and why and then work out a schedule that works for both employer and employee. Simply retracting freedom is obviously not going to be a popular measure. And happy employees are better for everyone I'd say?
difosfor··on Show HN: Universal Logger for Node, Deno, Bun, Browser
I guess it provides a complete console like API in all cases where some environments offer fewer console methods?
difosfor··on Apple Watch Series 10
It's not, many applications don't really work without your iPhone connected via Bluetooth even if your watch can make it's own internet connection. It basically seems like Apple and app developers are not considering people using their watch without their IPhone present as well.
difosfor··on Actual Size Online Ruler (Mm,Cm,Inches) – Screen Measurements
As long as we have to worry about finger printing lots of things are unreliable or impossible on the web unfortunately. Even more so with different browsers taking different positions on these things. In the end I wonder if this is actually protecting users or if they can still be tracked regardless and it's just inhibiting native app feature parity.
difosfor··on Four Thieves Vinegar Collective – Harm Reduction for the Living
Aren't such NDAs illegal in countries like the Netherlands (e.g EU)? I wonder how they deal with that.
difosfor··on Shaving is too expensive
I'm personally sticking to old Mach 3 blades as I can find them relatively cheap and they work perfectly; shaving easily and safely many times.
difosfor··on Apple Adopts 6 of OWA's Browser Choice Architecture Recommendations
Cool, thanks! I'm curious to see what the future will bring!
difosfor··on Show HN: D&D meets Siri – Interactive voice adventure
Never finished loading for me on iPad Safari in The Netherlands. Servers over loaded?
difosfor··on AMD's Zen 5 is a missed opportunity in messaging
Not really, from what I understand they're now upselling lower core count processors if you look at for example 7700 vs 9700. If you compare 9700 vs 7600 it makes more sense and the power usage is more comparable. Another 'fix' proposed by AMD also was basically to enable PBO which would then result in a marginal performance improvement, but no longer at a lower power usage.
difosfor··on Apple Adopts 6 of OWA's Browser Choice Architecture Recommendations
Yes, sorry, I should have mentioned: within the EU.

The reality is, even though it's now theoretically possible for Chrome and Firefox to be properly ported here, it's practically impossible. At any rate it's not happening yet. Last I heard they decided against it as it would require all of the coding to be done within the EU! So Apple is still effectively blocking alternatives on its platform even here.

It would be nice if the USA and Japan also pursue their own anti monopoly charges and force Apple to open up across the world

difosfor··on Apple Adopts 6 of OWA's Browser Choice Architecture Recommendations
I wish they'd focus on getting rid of whatever is still blocking Chrome, Firefox etc from actually porting their web engines to full browser alternatives. Installing WebKit with a different coat on is not what I want. I want alternatives to the WebKit monopoly.
