dham··on Woolly mammoth 'de-extinction' is nearing reality
First of all, no one even lives in the places Mammoths would live. Second of all, they can't be any more destructive than the Argentine fire ants that I deal with every year. You can't get rid of them; you only need to slow them down with bait. They're literally everywhere and spreading.
dham··on Americans' love affair with big cars is killing them
If you drove 150 MPH on an American road you would end up 100 yards into the woods flipping over 90 times, after hitting 1 of 65 potholes that are 4 feet deep on the interstate.
dham··on Americans' love affair with big cars is killing them
Yeah, there is. It's called everyone having an automated driving system like FSD. The NHTSA is too concerned with me taking my eyes off the road for 2 seconds while FSD is enabled versus getting manufacturers to actually implement this stuff.

Why can I take my eyes off the road with FSD off and not with it on? They should mandate driver monitoring in every car when you're not driving with an autonomous system. As a motorcycle rider also, I'm telling you that everyone is literally on their phone when driving. I can see it all because I sit higher than everyone else. That's what the NHTSA should focus on.

Tires are just one of the many things that have gone nowhere. There has to be a better way.
dham··on Joe Biden stands down as Democratic candidate
Solar is faster in the short term (because people think it's somehow "clean") but not sustainable in long term. It requires too much land and upkeep for not great output. It would be better to go all in on nuclear and surrounding technologies and solve energy once and for all.
dham··on Joe Biden stands down as Democratic candidate
The only thing that's going to solve climate change is technology. It's the same technology we've had since the 50's. Not turning off our lights, setting the AC to 80, drinking through paper straws, or clearing thousands of acres for solar panels.
dham··on I kind of like rebasing
I don't know why anyone cares about this stuff. You can literally do whatever you want on your private branch. If you want to make your life harder, that's cool. Just squash into the main and call it a day. None of this stuff matters anymore, like it did when I started my career.
dham··on U.S. imposes first-ever national drinking water limits on PFAS
Interesting archaic theory, as me and my wife just lost 40lbs each by eating a ton of fat and protein, haha. If you want to lose weight, stay away from sugar, for example carbs
dham··on U.S. imposes first-ever national drinking water limits on PFAS
If you're taking Vitamin D and Vitamin K like you're supposed to, these are the last things you have to worry about.
dham··on U.S. imposes first-ever national drinking water limits on PFAS
But somehow butter and lard are bad, that's how this whole thing started
dham··on Ketogenic Diet Intervention on Metabolic and Psychiatric Health
It's not meat and dairy; it's meat and dairy...with carbs. It's why societies that only ate saturated fat we're fine until they started eating carbs. Then they started dying off and getting diabetes.

Steak and eggs are not bad for you. Steak, eggs, toast and pancakes will kill you.

dham··on A type of bacteria that causes dental plaque was found in 50% of colon cancers
I was just talking about this a few months ago. In my opinion, single-payer dental insurance should be provided before health insurance. If a country has single payer but provides no dental insurance, it's a waste, as a lot of issues start in the mouth. We're at the forefront of a lot of this right now (as well as gut health).
dham··on Chronic stress spreads cancer
Yes, we might have different stresses as a species now, but I'm not sure we have any more stress than we had thousands of years ago.
dham··on Researchers use electron beams to eradicate forever chemicals in water
3M, an entire company built because people couldn't figure out how to cook with butter anymore.
dham··on Remix Vite Is Now Stable
To be fair, you can use a custom server with Next.js too.
dham··on Jeffrey Katzenberg Says A.I. Will Eliminate 90% of Artist Jobs on Animated Films
Yeah, I don't think people understand how much pre-prod work is done. For the next 5 to 10 years this what it'll be used for. In the next 20 years, 90% are out of work.
dham··on Jeffrey Katzenberg Says A.I. Will Eliminate 90% of Artist Jobs on Animated Films
Same here. And it's starting to look worse and worse over time. Before CGI was used to enhance a scene. Now no one shoots a scene in camera and adds CGI later (think Transformers / Jurassic Park), the whole scene is just CGI and it looks like crap.
dham··on Jeffrey Katzenberg Says A.I. Will Eliminate 90% of Artist Jobs on Animated Films
AI has already written the last few Disney movies, so why not animation?
dham··on Google Cuts Jobs in Engineering and Other Divisions
Onlive did Stadia in like 2009. Not really innovative.
dham··on Disney, Warner, Comcast, and Paramount are contemplating cuts, possible mergers
You also have to be willing to be put out good content that isn't written by ChatGPT, which, as we've seen, Disney has been unable to do for quite some time.
dham··on Disney, Warner, Comcast, and Paramount are contemplating cuts, possible mergers
This. I've always wondered why these companies are trying to create content for audiences that literally don't exist. It's really only shown up in the last few. years.
dham··on Estimate your GitHub account value
I can always tell when it's a Next JS site because the enter button doesn't submit what looks like an obvious form. Not really Next's fault, per se, just the users of the framework.
dham··on Why Tesla Autopilot shouldn't be used in as many places as you think
You must have fallen for the marketing / naming then. Autopilot is basic adaptive cruise control and lane assist. Every car manufacturer has the same thing. Are you thinking FSD?
dham··on Why Tesla Autopilot shouldn't be used in as many places as you think
I'm not sure why Tesla's adaptive cruise control with lane assist is under more scrutiny than any other manufacturer. Every car has it at this point.

dham··on Wegovy's heart benefits due to more than weight loss, Novo says
Keto weight loss has been incredibly fast for me and my wife. We were both at almost 10lbs a month which was probably too much. I've been off for around 2 months and haven't gained anything back, but still staying lower carb, but higher quality. Making better choices. Still not drinking calories which is a big one.
dham··on Wegovy's heart benefits due to more than weight loss, Novo says
I hear you what you are saying but I'm not advocating traditional dieting, which is just cutting calories and almost impossible in our society. Keto, on the other hand, allows you to eat a ton of foods without cutting calories and feeling hungry at all times. Eventually you lose some appetite and lose even more weight.
dham··on Wegovy's heart benefits due to more than weight loss, Novo says
> From experience, appetite mostly goes away, and when I do get hungry it doesn’t take much to fill me up. My wife basically eats almost nothing, but I find I still need to eat a small amount several times a day.

So basically exactly like being in Ketosis? Which is free.

To use the keto drug. For 1 day don't consume more than 10 - 20g of carbs. Repeat that for 2 weeks. Keep repeating for 4 - 6 months. This drug is an appetite suppressant and you burn fat.

dham··on Why you should probably be using SQLite
True but the new hotness is edge and your database can be really far from where you actually deploy. This is what this article is trying to push back against. Mainly because Kent is all about Remix and Remix is more about just deploying to traditional servers.
dham··on I Won't Use Next.js
And less startups will be successful now then when most startups were using Rails. Next.js is not a fullstack framework. Never will be. Fullstack frameworks will never work in the NodeJS ecosystem as the community is incapable of landing on a single solution to do anything.
