Sure, they can definitely come in with another visa but that requires a fair bit more work compared to a 'local' hire which is an added cost. Then once they get here (if the article is true) they don't have any right to remain in the country for an extended period of time which makes attracting them over/keeping them here even more difficult.
Can definitely see this becoming useful as a potential metabase replacement since we are using mysql - lack of postgres support is a weird choice though
Interesting discovery, however the energy density of such a battery would mean it couldn't ever be used to replace current lithium cells due to weight/space constraints. Might have a niche somewhere if gets to commercialisation stage?
Heavy Polymer user here, I have heard about SkateJS a few times but have never really had a close look at other webcomponent libraries yet, will definitely have a look at utilising this in a side-project or hackathon style event at some point. Not having to worry about the future of html imports anymore is great!
I see you're already at v4 of the library, how often do you do breaking changes?
We use Polymer extensively throughout our front-end, the speed/ease of development is decent - you can avoid reinventing the wheel using the polymer catalog and 3rd party components. With WebComponents support improving with each browser release (Shadow DOM now in Safari 10) and 2.0 release of Polymer coming up soon things seem to be going well in the ecosystem - would have to admit React is definitely in fashion right now though.
Although a very different situation company wise I did a similar remote internship once. My coping strategy was to find small bugs that you understand and fix it if given no direction - it's great way to learn, assist and keep out of trouble.
With regards to the UK universities/colleges which we currently in the feedback is generally super positive since we can provide books in a more accessible format with a much lower upfront cost.
Regarding price point (converted from GBP to USD) we currently have in Chemistry:
1) A premium plan with all the textbooks a student currently buys for ~$17/month ($102/sem) plus all optional reading
2) All optional reading for ~$4/month ($24/sem)
