dfc··on A kernel developer plays with Home Assistant

Its not prohibited here. What technical decisions are questionable?

dfc··on Show HN: Xenolab – Rasp Pi monitor for my pet carnivourus plants

Water butt (noun) - British: a large container for collecting or storing a liquid (such as rainwater)

This is so much better than "rain barrel".

dfc··on Mycoria is an open and secure overlay network that connects all participants

I am a little confused how the geo encoded addresses and private addresses work. It seems like the network will be overwhelmed with keeping track of switch labels?

dfc··on Don't watermark your legal PDFs with purple dragons in suits

Agreed...and if they think there is a chance of winning they are going to work on the case. That seems obvious? I think you always need to convince a judge your case has merit, right? Or else they just 12b6 you or whatever the equivalent is...

dfc··on Don't watermark your legal PDFs with purple dragons in suits

I think contingencies are common in cases like this? The lawyer gets paid iff their client wins.

dfc··on Did 5G kill the IMSI catcher?

What command command can you send to the UICC to get the location? I did not think any phones honored those requests from the SIM.

dfc··on Google Search to redirect its country level TLDs to Google.com

Do you think the way Debian uses gpg signatures for package verification is also broken?

dfc··on Show HN: Goldbach Conjecture up to 4*10^18+7*10^13

Keep doing stuff you like.

dfc··on Show HN: New world record – verified Goldbach Conjecture up to 4*10^18+7*10^13

You also need to fix this sentence:

"i aim to push this farther to 5 quadrillion."

dfc··on An intro to DeepSeek's distributed file system

I thought they used ceph too. But I started looking around and it seems like they have switched to CernVM-FS and in house solution. I'm not sure what changed.

dfc··on Damn Vulnerable MCP Server

You have had college students come to you and complain that your course material includes a tool with Damn in the title? That's wild. Do you teach in South western part of the state?

dfc··on MeshCore, a new lightweight, hybrid routing mesh protocol for packet radios

Reticulum will work over wifi.

dfc··on Native frame transposition coming to Emacs 31

Sway/i3/etc?

dfc··on The order of files in /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/ matters

It might not be an OpenBSD thing. It may be a Debian/ubuntu-ism.

dfc··on The order of files in /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/ matters

The way you wrote the rule makes no sense to me. Maybe it's too early in the day for me?

"In placing configuration files higher than user-defined configuration but Only with SSH client, can want..."

dfc··on The Mensa Reading List for Grades 9-12

Appallingly? I am not sure how else it would be ordered? A random order would be rough. The kids would have to scan through the list in order to find the book they read to rate and date the entry.

dfc··on FBI raids home of prominent computer scientist who has gone incommunicado

What is cleared up?

dfc··on Caido – A lightweight web security auditing toolkit

I have a love (mainly) and hate (tiny bit) relationship with burpsuite. It would be really nice if there was competition. The last time I looked at ZAP (a while ago) it was still a chaotic clone of burp that didn't seem very promising.

dfc··on A USB Interface to the "Mother of All Demos" Keyset

Can you share some of the titles about computing in the 50-70s?

dfc··on Comet open source remote KVM from GL-iNet

It's too bad that it does not include VGA by default.

dfc··on Open-UI: Maintain an open standard for UI and promote its adherence and adoption

The project is at least four years old.

dfc··on Why are QR Codes with capital letters smaller than QR codes with lower case?

Why can't you wear a watch with a camera in the changing room?

dfc··on A mouseless tale: trying for a keyboard-driven desktop

Of course nothing will ever be simpler than i3 if you never try anything else. I am happy with sway and have resisted the urge to try hyprland/paperwm. But I'm not going to delude myself and say it's because sway is better. It's just that I don't want to endure the switching costs.

dfc··on Can you read this cursive handwriting? The National Archives wants your help

The article is from The Smithsonian. The actual project is with the National Archives.

dfc··on Cracking a 512-bit DKIM key for less than $8 in the cloud

You should read the blog post Prof. Green linked to. All of your questions are addressed there.

dfc··on US could ban TP-Link routers over hacking fears: report

No, they meant counterfeit NICs. It has been a problem for a long time now for anyone trying to find a deal on Intel NICs:
