devlopr··on Google, Apple cave to Pakistan pressure to take down apps by Ahmadiyya Muslims
That's an issue affects all muslims in those countries and many non-muslims who may appear that way.

Islam does have a huge internal debate over which branch is correct that has never been settled. To not accept this group of people is unique in Islamic countries because they have been using this as a weapon against minorities by creating separate laws. By extending to other muslims this is more about trying to make them lower members of society with less rights and an excuse for mistreatment without breaking religious morals. You are allowed to do things to non muslims that wouldn't be acceptable to a muslims.

devlopr··on Google’s approach to replacing the cookie is drawing antitrust scrutiny
You wouldn't need to. Let's say they gave you a php script (any server side processing language) you could place it anywhere and it would download new ad content and show it as a first party ad.

Easier than changing a cname.

devlopr··on Peter Naur's view of programming
I think London England has a class structure that discourages this. In North America the push to team leader happens quite often and middle management common. The glass ceiling is usually cto/ceo/coo.
devlopr··on Association between egg consumption and risk of cardiovascular outcomes
There are schools of thought who believe grains (all grains) cause inflammation with some being better than others.

The special carbohydrate diet would encourage bacon and an oil/fat based diet over any grains ever.

Drinking bone brothe soup instead of eating oatmeal in the morning would be healthier.

Maybe we should move away from free speech into pro speech. Sites that encourage a healthy discussion is what we really want. Anything that discourages that should be reduced in importance anything that encourages that promoted.

Patterns of negative conversation defined by fewer quality reply posts get negative points and vice versa for positive or patterns to be encouraged.

As things evolve and how people respond changes these patterns can change.

You would see mydomain.com/adnetwork then.
devlopr··on I Still Use RSS
In order to reach a level where youtube would compensate a user you need to reach 1,000 subscribers.

If everyone used rss feeds new creators would never get paid.

devlopr··on Cargo Cult Software Engineering (2000)
I send in my procedural improvement reports and always assume they will get ignored. Rarely do I get surprised.
devlopr··on Academic media censorship conference censored by YouTube?
This was an academic channel conference that many people viewed. Perhaps not a popular channel for you but still worthy of existing.
devlopr··on Email from Jeff Bezos to employees
It was really common to type in random words as domains expecting something. People would make mistakes so people would buy domains with common spelling mistakes.
devlopr··on A 25-Year-Old Bet Comes Due: Has Tech Destroyed Society?
My other point of view is the opposite will happen.

Men will find happiness in porn, paid sex and virtual sexual experiences and will find that women can't live up to those experiences and men will not be satified with regular women.

An average women's sexual peak is later in life and they will not be as satified with virtual sex in the same way.

There will be a need for younger men from an older women group that could bridge the divide.

If you are young and want casual sex go on courage life not tinder for better results.

devlopr··on A 25-Year-Old Bet Comes Due: Has Tech Destroyed Society?
I'm in an older group. It feels like much of the same.

In my grade school all of the girls had a crush on one or two guys even the less pretty ones. No one had a chance. High school was similiar. Going to rock concerts changed that as I started to meet girls with similiar interests. Going to a concert would automatically give me a leg up because we were now part of a social circle. Later on in life I would go to a karoke bar and just the act of showing up a few times on the same day for a few weeks puts you in a social circle with others who do the same.

I don't know if things have changed all that much aside from the amount of people online. I use to meet girls from bbses / the early social media sites. The differences is they were smaller and you felt like part of a social circle.

Today I would advise to try to go to social meetups like photography in the park groups.. try to join a smaller group.

In the end the girls from my elementary school grew up and married. Everyone married similiar to them. If they are overweight so are there husbands. If they were an 8 their husbands would be an 8. If they are a 4 their husbands are a 4. They general look like each other.

My guess is the girls from your primary school will end up with someone similiar to them and so will you.

Curious to hear a bit more. Who are these men? The non-tech jocks? There must be non-tech females left?

Are you speaking about the average looking male group who can't get tinder hookups?

devlopr··on Games can fix remote team building
Asking that question after winning an employee game wouldn't give you much insight. He or she would say they are working towards some goal and ask you to join the committee on women's pay.

If you asked HR they will probably give you more of an honest answer. We are trying to pay people as little as possible.

devlopr··on How to increase your luck surface area (2010)
The idea is you are always shifting rebalancing.

If you are 45 you might be at 50/50 (safe/risky growth) by 55 25/75 by 60 90% is safe.

If something happens at 60 where you lose 50% of the 10% in growth stocks stats show that a 5 year recovery to base levels is likely.

devlopr··on Games can fix remote team building
Ask the CEO a question as a prize? Can I forefit my winnings?

Maybe it's me but I can't think of any question that would produce an answer of information I didn't know and actually want to know. From any CEO.

What would you ask Musk? Or your own CEO if you had the chance?

devlopr··on How to increase your luck surface area (2010)
That's why you move from a risky stock portfolio to a safer bold driven portfolio as your age increases.

At this point you couldn't switch back.

devlopr··on Long-term study reveals harm in regular cannabis use
I can't see how this study is measuring the harms of regular cannabis use. This is measuring how many people who experienced problems in their early 20s dealt with them. More depression / hard drug use / more likely to take weed daily / etc.

Other headlines they could have used.

Being a relationship doesn't affect your depression / hard drug use / etc

Austrialians start using weed much later in life

devlopr··on Heavy social media use associated with lower mental health in adolescents
It's a valid point and I have found value in looking up past friends on facebook.

I'm not sure a teenager has the same value. Anyone under 18 shouldn't have real identifying names them.

When facebook came out you had people isolated into networks of schools. Those structures provided better protections and freedom. The transition to fully public with forced real names made facebook into something not for kids but great for older folks.

devlopr··on Heavy social media use associated with lower mental health in adolescents
There are upsides. From providing self estem from a different source from the local.

It has raised awareness like never before.

It has provided an income for some.

It allows new peer groups not available locally

It provides a safer space to interact with strangers.

Where we got it wrong was connecting these profiles to real life names. That has ruined people's lives.

devlopr··on A worry junior engineers frequently have is that they ask too many questions
How do you deal with lazy questions? Ones you've answered over and over or easily found in the docs?
devlopr··on A worry junior engineers frequently have is that they ask too many questions
I was told once use the Microsoft rule. If you can't figure it out in 20 minutes ask.

I try to investigate as much as possible before asking. It can cut down the number of questions and you can focus on the important gaps.

As someone who lives in a big city I have a variety social contacts with various politics beliefs ranging from left to right and not caring about politics to caring too much. Many right leaning votes live in cities at least 20% in any region and many left leaning rural voters exist at least 20%.

At $250,000 with one tech and one sales founder in place with a stable product and no backlog of required features you could go several ways.

8 killer sales agents. Part salary say: 24k commission 25% of new contracts or

2 killer sales agents. 95k 2% commission or

1 marketing person 75k and two killer sales agents 75k plus 10% commission

50k+ could pay for everything else provided no rent is involved.
