Fyi french supermarkets like carrefour or leclerc already have solutions where they give you a scanner and you scan yourself the stuff you buy and just pay when exiting. Very fast and convenient.
Ok, let me tell you my experience: Fyi I am left wing guy, like european left wing guy :), currently living in Bucharest, Romania. Here the taxis are regulated so the supply is limited but you can't really buy a licence, there is some kind of queue in place. Anyway we have a few dozen of taxi companies, however the experience is abysmal comparing with uber. What I can't understand is why there is no competition between the taxis to provide a better service, even in this restricted market: If some company would try to provide better service for a slightly higher price I would be the first to give up uber and use them ... But they don't care I think they are colluding to keep the costs down and that's it. Very sad.
Well, The hobbits did not get eternal life, quite the contrary. While is super duper to get to see the blessed realm, most scholars agree that for mortals getting to see so much beauty is bad and actually shorten one's life.
One thing that bothers me is the author remark that the Greeks never had any organised state like structure except for the Macedonian kingdoms ..yes they did for like 1000 years. It was called the Byzantine empire. Before the modern Greek state appeared the Greek diaspora used to identify itself not as Greek but as romai ... Citizen of the eastern roman empire.
The problem might be that, during most of history, The majority of African groups either didn't have enough resources in order to accumulate enough wealth to afford working organized structures/states or were too fragmented. Most European states were also plundered countless times but the lands are richer so they were able to recoup. The French have a complicated history with franceafrique but you can say the same thing with any great power at some moment in time.
I would rather say that most euro countries are being ripped of by Germany, in multiple ways like the beggar thy neighbor of internal devaluation, rigid finacial policy when it suits them, way too higher trade imbalances with the other euro area countries, etc ... but is way cooler to say that "they are paying", because they are germans, right ...
I don't know why, but each time i read about the shortage of devs, i see another cry from the industry: "we want more immigration so we can drive the sallaries down!"
What about using the new google tool that they were forced to do by the EU to get his blog out from the search results? I think you have a pretty good case.
You look for sunshine, sea, jobs and an european location? Have you considered Sophia Antipolis, on the French cote d'Azur? I live and work there and it's quite nice, and you'll surly find a lot of java jobs.
Well, point taken, indeed the popular notion of time travel is quite far fetched. However, at a basic level it is not outside the current scientific consensus. But things can change, we don't know a lot of what can, or can not be possible. And yes, this is a message board, we're here to contradict each other :))
sorry to contradict you, but all the laws of physics are totally reversible, so in theory you could turn back physical time. The problem is that you need to do that for each atom, molecule from your body in order to reverse all the interactions. However it won't be time travel proper, except for the atoms/molecules in question.
The article says that, "EU will regulate the standards to death, stifling innovation", but on the other hand the main problem with the internet of things is that, left on their own devices, private actors would act in their own interest to stifle competition and create incompatible devices...
So I would say that, at the beginning some strong armed entity like a regulating EU would be a good thing, it would enforce standards.
Hello,
I think Kim wants to do something alike, the mega email. Anyway it might very well be a good niche market. I would be very interested if i had the time, but you know, kids, shit, life ... :(
Well, the problem with minorities in US, Germany and everywhere else, is that usually they are immigrant, poor, living in bad neighborhoods, so yeah, they will pretty much score lower at school, have much more crime, etc. But not because they are Mexican, Gipsy, Turkish, but because they are poor immigrants.
This article just won a Godwin point: basically if only the rich whites are taken into account, the American school is better than the Canadian one ... sure, that's a nice way to evaluate an education system ...
Well, if you hop too often it will look bad on your cv, so it will stop you at a certain point. Otherwise yes, the best way to increase your salary is to change jobs, if the economy allows it. Just leave at least 2 years between jobs :)
"To do anything in France requires a lot of red tape. To join a gym or go on a fun run you need a certificate from your doctor, which they charge you 70 euros."
That's not true, you can get the certificate from your "family" doctor, and the cost is probably 22 euros, fully returned by the secu + mutuelle (if you have one). So pretty much 0.
also you can do quite a lot of things online, pay your taxes, manage your account, order copies for your birth certificates and many more ... you just have to use them before complaining.
The nerve on that police guy ... he wasn't willing to speak English ... like if he was in your beloved US of A everyone will be chatting around with him in French. Start learning a few foreign languages before snubbing around people for not speaking "your" language.
what I would like to see it's an aggregator with a nice ui, like the oldreader, but also with a nice api so we could have all the ecosystem we have right now around google reader. i'am searching and I didn't found one yet :(
Well, the article was in itself a bit anecdotical, as someone else put it, so i tried to keep up. Yes the experience is quite different, and while i am very passionate for what i'm doing (i'm programming a way or another since i was 12), i really think college is worth something, beside having fun: you learn how to think, how to evaluate, how to apply what you know ... and how to finish things you started - projects, jobs, assignements.
well, that's because your in us of a. I'am an european so i had my 5 years of software eng. degree for free, plus i was able to do freelance work in the same time. So, no debt, 5 extra years of partying, drinking with my mates (many of them recruited in the same university), and a nice diploma which really matters here over the pond :).
