deletes··on Zuckerberg, Musk Invest in Artificial-Intelligence Company Vicarious
It would spend all it's time and resources in order to even slightly decrease the probability of a human coming to harm.

You are assuming there are no thresholds, which is not correct for any decent ( fictitious )ai, I believe.

I should have specified I mean only the Robot trilogy. I have yet to read every book.
deletes··on Zuckerberg, Musk Invest in Artificial-Intelligence Company Vicarious
In the books the robots adhered to the laws strictly. The problem was that humans were able to circumvent the laws rather easily. For example; lie to the robot or divide the murder trough many robots each unaware of each other. In absence of humans the robots were perfect for deciding moral subjects( as long they have enough information ), the opposite what tomp is suggesting.

  * Zeroth Law: A robot must never harm humanity or, by inaction allow humanity to come to harm.
Every other law gets an unless this interferes with the zeroth law. suffix.

I encourage anyone to read the robots series, specifically( in that order ): The Caves of Steel, The Naked Sun and The Robots of Dawn, where the three laws are used in the story, and even the zeroth law is implied in the third book.

Looks like the internal state of the numbers that actually decide what can be merged is changed when you press a key. Also works if you hold it down, which is a bug I think.

Just hold down one direction to observe.

Why then don't geniuses come from third world countries. Improved standard of living will help that, not pure numbers.
deletes··on Windows XP Will Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night
That is a bad analogy. Unlike software, building take time, people and material resources to build and cost magnitudes more, yet windows can be installed/upgraded in an hour.

Microsoft already issued a patch( not that they didn't support XP a long time over its lifespan ), it is called Windows 7, Apple does this as well, with their yearly OS releases, even though in a more clever way.

I can think of Kindle as a physical device that comes with ads until you pay more money. Surely there is potential in this approach for other home appliances.

I didn't think about it so literally. I understood it more as a methaphor/explanation for life and meaning of life.
deletes··on How to turn into a tree after you die
The correct answer. Life is a continuous process.

When I first read Ubik I though their economy is unrealistic. How do the appliances and doors that charge for usage make sense?

It makes an interesting replacement for the warranty in the item contract. Pay the toll, and the item is kept constantly serviced. The protagonist's attack on the door also makes sense since it is considered a breach of contract.

60 Virtual speakers What does that even mean? It sounds like clever marketing talk.

I bet they have just regular stereo and software. Here, take a pair of good stereo headphones and try this 3d demo. And don't forget to close your eyes.

You didn't do a lot of mashing keys right. This version really takes some thought.
deletes··on 2048 in 4D
Undoubtfully the number is really large, but I'm not sure what exactly you mean by cube Planck lengths. A comparison to atoms would be more clear.

Still, it wouldn't have to. Since most arrays would have pieces with lower numbers( 2,4,8 ) you could very efficiently compress the data.

At some point you would run out of memory but it would be playable. Just like those Game of Life implementations with seemingly infinite grid.

deletes··on 2048 in 4D
edit: Looks ok, I'm confused :)

It is interesting. The best way to solve it is to forget about dimensions and just learn the rules of what key does what in terms of piece movement.

deletes··on 2048 in 4D
So 2048 in 2048 dimensions after that?
deletes··on 2048 in 3D
Yes but not always. A pre-filled version would likely be made for commercial release.
deletes··on 2048 in 3D
Yet it can't be solved by mashing and requires some thought.

There needs to be a clear while line separating the boxes; after intense staring I have difficulty separating the individual boxes.

A "solution": keep pressing right and E and up or down if you get stuck. Make some manual moves if the board gets cluttered.

Do not use the strategy to cluster pieces into a corner.

Solved it. http://i.imgur.com/sb3VMCY.jpg

And apart from the 2D variants it required some thinking. This is THE version to iterate and improve. It has gameplay.
