decrypt··on 700M users and Premium
Fastmail as well. I just paid for 3 years which amounts to 3.11 USD or so, per month.
decrypt··on Our plans for Thunderbird on Android
May I ask what Thunderbird local storage means? Does that mean that emails are delivered and stored on the device, vs on a cloud server?
decrypt··on Tell HN: Thailand pass applicants receive malicious code via email
What address did the email come from, and what do the headers show? Anything to indicate it's a spoofed email?
decrypt··on Ask HN: Google SSO or Password Manager?
Very much this. I see users getting locked out of Google account often, or Google changing their policies (like the recent change of free G Suite accounts to premium ones) which would mean you'd be locked out of most accounts.
decrypt··on Ask HN: BitWarden Master Password No Longer Works (Solved)
I am not aware of any truncation, but best to ask their support and/or ask on their community forums.
decrypt··on Ask HN: Best Gmail Alternative?
Any standard email host with IMAP access and a custom domain will do. I like Migadu.
decrypt··on You can now send replies from your Duck Addresses
Both of them. The domain and the ability to remove trackers are why I signed up when it initially launched.
decrypt··on You can now send replies from your Duck Addresses
This service is not ideal for spammers because it is not possible to initiate sending of emails using Duck at the moment. It's only for receiving and responding to incoming emails.
decrypt··on Google requiring all ‘G Suite legacy free edition’ users to start paying
I think the parent company misunderstood the process as being required to move to a new Google account. That's not the case as far as I can tell from the support document. The account remains the same, just have to pay for the service.
decrypt··on 1Password Has Raised $620M
I meant the overlay popup interface by autofill on login forms:

https://community.bitwarden.com/t/overlay-popup-interface/14

Noted about trusted family members on Bitwarden.

I don't understand the private key part for Bitwarden. I am referring to the one here:

https://support.1password.com/secret-key-security/

Is there an equivalent for Bitwarden?

decrypt··on 1Password Has Raised $620M
Hopefully so, but I'd be willing to pay even upto 100 USD. I store a lot of things on 1Password these days that it's very hard to give up, and very convenient. It's not just passwords; medical documents, credit card details, passport, certificates, private notes.
decrypt··on 1Password Has Raised $620M
I meant the overlay popup interface which is still in the works:

https://community.bitwarden.com/t/overlay-popup-interface/14

decrypt··on 1Password Has Raised $620M
I like Bitwarden too, but can't dismiss the fact that 1Password is superior to Bitwarden in many ways:

- Mobile UI is beautiful on 1Password.

- The UX from creating a password entry to auto-filling is easily better on 1Password. Bitwarden doesn't show autofill entries on login forms yet. That's a deal breaker, at least for me.

- Account recovery via a trusted family member.

- Additional security measure: private key in addition to master password.

Personally, the 35 USD fee is justified.

decrypt··on Ask HN: What is your system for backing up family photos and video?
At this time, I have a local copy split across a Windows and a Mac. Both are backed up to Backblaze Personal plan. When someone from my immediate family wants to view an album, they have to download it. Not ideal at all, but that's our process today.

I don't use Google Photos for privacy concerns.

Now that I use Tailscale, I could consider setting up a NAT at home and make files easily viewable using NextCloud, but I worry I won't backup properly to Backblaze B2. Need to figure out how to schedule backups before I make the switch.

decrypt··on Show HN: Infreq Social – The once a day social network
From the title, I thought all posts are available only for 24 hours. I have been using ephemeral messages on Signal over the last year, and I don't miss the conversation history at all. It'd be nice to see the same concept on social networking sites as well.
decrypt··on Tell HN: Reddit was showing “Blocked” when accessed with Firefox
Same boat. Didn't have an issue with HTTP3 two days ago, no reddit outage either. I wonder if my DNS resolver is helping somehow. I use Adguard.
decrypt··on Tell HN: Reddit was showing “Blocked” when accessed with Firefox
Loads okay for me too.
decrypt··on Ask HN: How did my LastPass master password get leaked?
Also a good idea to rotate each site password.
decrypt··on Ask HN: How did my LastPass master password get leaked?
I saw the same error earlier today, but trying to log into LastPass.com now shows this error: "You may have mistyped your email address. Try again."

At this stage, it's unclear if my account is already deleted, or if my account is flagged for something else. If it's deleted, it would have been ideal to send an email confirmation about it, but that hasn't happened so far.

decrypt··on Tell HN: Edge collects all search history, even on Google/DDG
Ran into the same setting yesterday when I was looking for something else. Sorta annoying; it must be opt-in, not opt-out by default.
decrypt··on Ask HN: Recommended Domain Registrars?
When transferring-out domains from Namecheap to Porkbun, I was horrified to learn that the email address used for domain registrations wasn't what I expected.

Somehow the registrant email address was set to their whois proxy address, which meant I could not receive my transfer-out EPP code.

I had to contact their support who reset it back to what I had set during purchase and I could receive the EPP code.

decrypt··on Ask HN: Recommended Domain Registrars?
Big +1 for Porkbun. I feel a bit bad because I use them only for domain registrations, and then point out to Bunny DNS or Cloudflare DNS. I don't host websites or email with Porkbun either, mostly because moving existing setup from elsewhere is a pain.
decrypt··on To opt out of Google Analytics you have to install a browser extension
That page seems to eventually redirect to the link shared in the post.
decrypt··on Ask HN: What speed are you watching you YouTube videos?
As a hard of hearing person, I mostly depend on subtitles to follow along. So, 2.5x is my usual speed, sometimes 3x depending on the content.
decrypt··on Ask HN: Is Protonmail Down?
Works okay but has been showing odd errors here and there for the last 4 hours.
decrypt··on Ask HN: 1Password Alternatives
One thing that I haven't understood is syncing. How do you sync passwords between different desktops/mobile devices?
decrypt··on [dead]
Redirects to https://archive.md for me, but there's also https://archive.today which redirects to https://archive.ph

All four domains redirect/load okay.

decrypt··on Tell HN: Lost then regained access to Google account, with correct credentials
Could you elaborate on what you mean by "use"?
decrypt··on Tell HN: Lost then regained access to Google account, with correct credentials
Well, that's not good. It's frustrating that there isn't a customer support division that you can talk to either, at least for escalated issues like the ones we face.
decrypt··on Tell HN: Lost then regained access to Google account, with correct credentials
You could avoid using SMS for 2FA. Most websites offer TOTP as first choice for 2FA. For the ones that insist on SMS 2FA being first choice, I don't bother using anymore. I delete the account and find another provider.
