deathhand··on Five Eyes and Japan call for Facebook backdoor to monitor crime
The opponents to your argument would state "one life is too many". The retort is then usually the Benjamin Franklin quote "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

Finally it ends with 'do you trust current authority?' and depending upon the social circle you will get various answers.

deathhand··on Indian robot climbs trees to harvest coconuts
Sadly this illustrates the current state of Robotics - HARD. This was 3 years with multiple people's lives. The industry as a whole needs to go down the same route as computers did which are common platforms that fit together that get the job done. Sadly there needs to be a behemoth in this space first(1960s IBM) that does all this work that society as a whole then can profit from(Facebook today)

Only if there was some sort of cohort of people who would be able to judge actions to see if they are liable.

Perhaps we aren't scaling the judiciary system propley & allowed it to become overly complex so that only a certain subsect of the population can navigate it efficiently and an even smaller portion of that can litigate for others.

deathhand··on New computer glitch may have lost new voter registrations
I will keep saying this until I am blue in the face: The voting process should not be a "trade secret"[1]

NJ also has had problems this year with their manual process. [2]

I honestly don't understand how everyone can feel so indifferent about this issue that is the cornerstone of America.

deathhand··on I Replaced My MacBook Pro with a Raspberry Pi 4 8GB for a Day
You are familiar with libraries and dependencies then. You know that its a very complicated mess of spaghetti. You also know that video editing is a very high use of a computer. Even for profit companies like Adobe has trouble with current hardware[1]

I get you wanted to write a blog article. Content creation is cool. I don't think you get where computers and technology has come from and necessary where its going. That Raspberry PI would be great for programming GPIO pins to literally do anything for you. This is my favorite explanation of technology[2] and honestly amazed that any of it works.

deathhand··on Zoom Acquires Keybase
It's deeper than "Chat Security". There is current litigation against Zoom marketing of the misuse of 'end to end' encryption. This is the best way forward of claiming ineptitude and their path to rectify.
deathhand··on Surface Go 2, Surface Book 3, Surface Headphones 2 and Surface Earbuds
I will never endorse the "nostril camera" of XPS 9XXX series considering they have now released better.
deathhand··on Surface Go 2, Surface Book 3, Surface Headphones 2 and Surface Earbuds
The Surface Book 3 may give the XPS 7390 a run for the money for the high end enterprise users. My initial concerns will be heat, weight and build quality. XPS metal body feels great and is durable. I wonder how this will compare.
deathhand··on Will cable TV be invaded by commercials? (1981)
I wish it was that intelligent. Ad buyers are morons and companies like Criteo are snake oil salesmen.

Advertising, as a whole, is one of the most inefficient use of man-power capitalism has ever created. Intelligent people who have been failed for the US education system(chasing the goal of 'be whatever you want to be... but there is no sustainable way) usually end up there in some fashion.

This glut of capable but ineffectual intellectuals is either helping the ponzi fiat money scheme or if this virus is a 12 month affair with limited buying leads to mass civil unrest.

The demographics of the ad companies skew left... which is ok as long as we don't get into South American Currency Territory which i think the petro dollar should keep away for the time being.

deathhand··on You're a Slave to Money, Then You Die
Government was always supposed to be influenced 'by the people' those people are usually aristocrats. That is fine if there are enough of them with different ideas. What has happened is the consolidation of the artiscroacy and thus the means of influence of government. This is where we are getting our ugly problems from.

What is the first step to fixing this? Bring voting into the 21ST century AND NOT HAVE VOTING SOFTWARE BE CONSIDERED A TRADE SECRET[1].

Voting shouldn't be as onerous today and things like the Sun Light foundation[2] should be a household name.

We have all met jerks in our lives. People who lie, deciet, and cheat to get ahead. How is having the government covered in obscurity good for anyone?

This is incorrect. It still is encrypted in transit via TLS. There are encryption tunnels from point to point just not 'end to end'.

deathhand··on [dead]
It is interesting as he is quoted saying [1]

"“For instance, by selling the Thai baht short in January 1997, the Quantum Fund managed by my investment company sent a market signal that the baht may be overvalued. Had the authorities responded to the depletion of their reserves, the adjustment would have occurred sooner and been less painful. But the authorities allowed their reserves to run down; the break, when it came, was catastrophic.""

Vs. What Facebook said getting Rick Scott re-elected in 2011 [2]

"Facebook Ads provided us with unique targeting capabilities to look beyond broad demographics and specifically target messages in English and Spanish to specific groups of Cuban, Puerto Rican and other descent," he said, according to Facebook's page. "This allowed us to reach different sub-groups of Hispanic voters in ways that were simply not feasible on TV and radio."

How about we just agree that the human condition does not scale properly and will always lead to abuse?
