dbacar··on Eating Fruit Skins
Looking at the pesticide scores, one should not eat any fruit/vegetable without peeling if it has any.
dbacar··on How Our Rust-to-Zig Rewrite Is Going
why not rewrite in ROC?? Would be much more cooler.

I think precious cognitive time should be spent more on the language itself rather than wasting it on rewrites.

dbacar··on Mini Shai-Hulud Strikes Again: 314 npm Packages Compromised
Most poeople even dont know about it.
dbacar··on Codex just found a "workaround" of not having sudo on my PC
Apart from rootless, main winning point is daemonless running of the containers. There is no podman service.
dbacar··on Codex just found a "workaround" of not having sudo on my PC
This is one of the main reasons people like Podman. Docker has this "feature" but as far as I remember, it needed some obscure configuration. I guess they don't add it as default as it will break many current setups.
dbacar··on Cheese Paper: a text editor specifically designed for writing
I would give that a try if it supported Windows/Linix.
dbacar··on Project Glasswing: An Initial Update
So they gain access to these companies' proprietry software, right?
dbacar··on Illusions of understanding in the sciences
Is it a probability that the authors understood the notion of Understanding all wrong?

;).

dbacar··on Obsidian plugin was abused to deploy a remote access trojan
Reading the content the problem does not start with a plugin in Obisidian store but rather with a malicious vault they lure you to open.
dbacar··on Incident with Issues and Webhooks – Resolved
;)

https://www.dayswithoutgithubincident.com/ (from an above HN item)

dbacar··on VS Code inserting 'Co-Authored-by Copilot' into commits regardless of usage
You can turn it off.
dbacar··on Windows API is Successful Cross-Platform API (2024)
Sometimes I think that, if Java ditched the idea of JVM and followed what modern languages did today (write once, compile on every major platform), things would be different.
dbacar··on Windows API is Successful Cross-Platform API (2024)
I am not sure if this holds, I have witnessed apps that dont work in newer versions of Windows.
dbacar··on Becoming a father shrinks your cerebrum (2022)
That article does not say whether polyphasic sleep was standard because parents were synchronizing with their babies.
dbacar··on Becoming a father shrinks your cerebrum (2022)
The babies I know yet don't sleep like adults which means that you will be up at night at random hours that you are not used to and I think this has nothing to do with industrial work culture. That 6-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep is just a "dream" :).

I recall, as a twins dad, I did not have 2+ hours of uninterrupted sleep till they are 2 years old. (This depends on the kid though).

dbacar··on Ask HN: Any interesting niche hobbies?
any chance we got it in English? would love to try
dbacar··on Artemis II crew see first glimpse of far side of Moon [video]
Rather than the far side, what about the Dark Side of the Moon?
dbacar··on Why are we still using Markdown?
Markdown is for us humans. HTML is for machines.

Per keyboard stroke, you write much more content with MD than HTML.

Even without a specific browser/reader Markdown is relatively non-intrusive to read. You cant read HTML without an extra tool/effort to discard tags.

And you can parse MD with regular expressions, or can you? ;). (tip hat to infamous Stackoverflow discussion)

dbacar··on Voyager 1 runs on 69 KB of memory and an 8-track tape recorder
That sounds like an invisible malevolent force trying to destroy us, himm, sounds familiar :).
dbacar··on Voyager 1 runs on 69 KB of memory and an 8-track tape recorder
For some good portion of the earth's population, I dont think things would go worse than it is even if there were an alian invasion.
dbacar··on Alzheimer's disease mortality among taxi and ambulance drivers (2024)
Your reasons listed under a HN comment are more plausible than those listed by who worked on this subject for years. I find it funny and admiring.
dbacar··on Desk for people who work at home with a cat
That is inevitable :)
dbacar··on Olympic Committee bars transgender athletes from women’s events
males competing against males are also at risk by taking a ball to the head :).

I think male female trans etc . can compete if analysed by sports branch basis. Male x female in contact sports like karate boxing taekwondo is not fair. However i think the difference is negligible in shooting, archerty, curling etc.

dbacar··on Shell Tricks That Make Life Easier (and Save Your Sanity)
it is an additional burden to switch to shell vi mode, it is not the standard. Maybe you can put it in all of yout bashrc files but you will probably hear some swearing from the people logging to your machines :).
dbacar··on Local Stack Archived their GitHub repo and requires an account to run
I bet they will be deleting code from the archived code just like that minio people.
dbacar··on Show HN: Revise – An AI Editor for Documents
I am not a defender of Word (2024) but it starts in 1-2 seconds in my laptop.

Actually the speed is a problem when you have hundreds of pages with track changes and comments.

Maybe you should check Wordperfect or WordStar ;)

dbacar··on Grafeo – A fast, lean, embeddable graph database built in Rust
Did you generate the list using an LLM?
dbacar··on Chuck Norris has died
I even remember the times he was not vintage yet, but the real thing. Maybe even watched his famous fight scene with Bruce Lee on the cheap cinemas back in the day. Good days. RIP .
dbacar··on Honda is killing its EVs
I can imagine Honda executives thinking that they can wait out the awkward transition period and, when motors and batteries are fully sorted, simply swap out the fossil fuel bits. How hard could it be?

The article loses its credibility once it imagines a multi-billion, multi-country company executives thinking this way :).

dbacar··on Emacs and Vim in the Age of AI
I dont know what the deal is with these editors that makes them on HN front page so frequently. In my opinion they are good text editors (used emacs for 4 years, and switched to vim nearly 10 years ago) but for coding I see them as a joke apart from some edge cases(clojure, lisp...). They are hard to setup as code editors, lots of customizations are needed and in my opinion it does not pay off.
