Not at FB anymore but I would assume your hypothesis isn't too far from the truth. It's also true that there are hundreds of thousands of small businesses that thrive thanks to online advertising.
Fortunately, the US isn't the only country on the planet. We could, for instance, get inspiration from those countries that heavily invest in renewable energy.
1) FB doesn't listen to you.
2) Why are people getting so upset for seeing relevant ads? Ads is what pays for many of the services we use for free, would you rather see obnoxious irrelevant ads?
The access to people you have here (for advices, fundraising, selling your company, etc.) can't be found anywhere else. That doesn't mean you can't do it anywhere else, but here it's just much easier.
That's the definition of price anchoring... That makes look like the $150 device is a bargain, because for ONLY $20 more you get the HRM, distracting from the more objective consideration of the price of the item.
I wonder what the cost of Google Shopping Express will be. I found myself choosing GSE over Amazon several time because on smaller items is cheaper and you can't beat same day delivery.
Call me old school, but I love my mediterranean (italian) diet: a balance mix of all the nutrients in normal portions. I think nothing is really bad for you in right in normal quantities. Try to eat a 6oz steak with a nice salad (EVOO, salt, lemon juice for dressing) instead of a 16oz steak with a bunch of sauces. Afraid of carbs? Try eating 60g of pasta next time instead of a salad bowl of it.
I found myself using other service more often when I see a surcharge. Especially for short rides, I prefer waiting and extra 5 minutes and spend half of the money.
I completely disagree for several reasons:
1- 99% of the people who learn how to program nowadays starts from web development, not Java or Obj-C
2- I decided to learn Ruby on Rails because I like to build things, being an extensive Apple user didn't slow me down a bit (actually made it easier in some ways).
3- Only because I know how to develop doesn't mean I want any type of crap on my phone or something I'd enjoy less to use.
While everyone bashes the quality of the data in Apple's map app, what really makes it win for me is the perfect integration with everything else. I have to use Google Maps when I bike because it gives me biking direction, but since it's not fully integrated in the OS, often it doesn't give me the step by step directions unless I'm in the app or if the phone goes black.
I remember in 2001 when it was almost a badge of honor to be hosted on (MT), especially if you were one of those website that got the free hosting in exchange of their logo on the page.
True but not always true.
Our application (http://syncpadapp.com) is free to download and to use up to 3 simultaneous users. If you need more we offer a "pro" plan at $5 for up to 30 simultaneous people. You'd be surprised by how many people are asking me for a discount rate on a $5/mo plan for an app that they use daily...
