You can be generous without wanting to be taken advantage of. Using a product is one thing, reselling it and becoming the defacto place people use it is another.
Another take is that if Amazon eats everyone’s lunch, we will have nothing else.

I would never trust any sort of gps system to not be used against me however.
Parents held sway over their children because so much of life was dependent upon the family. Domestic help, help during food scarcity, help during a housing crisis, etc.
Today the government provides much of these services, but usually to a lesser extent. The result is the destruction of the power of the m/patriarchs, the replacement of the family by government, etc.
On the bright side, you can now walk away from abusive families. The more families are exposed, the more we see how many are messed up.
And by “the rest of world” you mean Europe and parts of Asia?
I suppose Latin America doesn’t exist? Maybe they’re evolved enough to be considered real people? What about Africa? Also still not human?
“Modern medical highway robbery sucks 24% of our medical expenses from just 1% of the people”
The woman wants to work, yet cannot because she can’t guarantee how fast she will move past the “no welfare and very little money” transition until she gets promoted to full time work.
Her only recourse is to stay on welfare. Now the real issue comes to her children. If she managed to really instill in them the need to never be on welfare themselves, great, they’ll join the workforce. But what if she didn’t? Maybe only tried a bit, but the years of being on welfare made her lose touch with the working world. Children now only see welfare and thus generational poverty starts.
I was an engineer at Splunk for many years. I knew it cold.
I then joined a startup where they just used metrics and the logs TTLed out after just a week. They were just used for short term debugging.
The metrics were easier to put in, keep organized, make dashboards from, lighter, cheaper, better. I had been doing it wrong this whole time.
Does optimizing a database require I follow sports? Not even close. I just have to know the use cases, which I get from instrumentation.
This rule might be useful for people in Product or UX, but not backend.
You don’t have to take an empty field and plant 100k trees. You can go to where chestnuts used to grow, have some volunteers plant some over time, say 100 every month in an area. Over the course of 10 years, we’ll get some data.
Don’t let great be the enemy of good.
I once presented the most optimal solution, so I was tasked with presenting it to the class, but I wasn’t put down for it.

Over time, most people I know grow tired of them. They have more friends yes, but even my friends know their “good time friends” wouldn’t stick around through hardship.
Kids aren’t the only way for sure. There are plenty of causes, but they are one thing that lasts longer than a few product cycles.
