If one is already temperamentally inclined to the "serenity to accept the things [one] cannot change, Courage to change the things [one] can, and Wisdom to know the difference", then they may not need Stoicism.

You probably don't have kids.

dashoffset··on “I would buy a Mac today if I was not working at Microsoft” (2004)
Snow Leopard was the best version for me. I used it for months only restarting to install updates and there was no impact on the performance or stability.
dashoffset··on Notion for everyone
Good news. But I've been using Roam [1] for a couple months and I don't know if I can live without "biderectional links" and "unliked references" anymore.

dashoffset··on Operation Serenata de Amor – An AI project to analyze public spending in Brazil
I would start with "The causes of corruption" by Daniel Treisman. It isn't specific to Latin America, though.

In summary, Treisman will show that many factors appear to have an influence on whether a country is more or less corrupt. The colonial past of Latin American countries helps to explain part of it, but it doesn't appear to be a causa sine qua non.

> countries where corruption is endemic and part of the culture almost always started out as "extraction colonies".

This is an overly simplified, albeit correct, way to explain it.

Sorry, but there is no comparison. None of them were elected by saying: "Vote Reagan (or Trump). It can't get worse than this".
dashoffset··on A.I. And Big Data Could Power a New War on Poverty?
I fail to see how wealth inequality is a problem worse than poverty. I also fail to see why we can't try to fix both poverty and inequality at the same time.

Do you have a real world example of a politician that was elected recently without support of the rich?
dashoffset··on The mystery of why some people hate raw tomatoes
tl;dr We don't know yet.
dashoffset··on Understanding the economic significance of the light bulb
Innovation during the Space Race was driven by the competition between USSR and USA.
dashoffset··on Apple Reports Record First Quarter Results
I've seen a few complains that could be classified as customer feedback. They all came from people that actually bought the product but disliked one or two things.

Comments like: "Apple is doomed", "Touchbar is useless/gimmick", "Nobody wanted a thinner MacBook" are not costumer feedback.

dashoffset··on Apple Reports Record First Quarter Results
If you think their products are fancy crap, would it make a difference if they suddenly decided to sell them for half the price?
dashoffset··on Comparing Elixir and Go
Agreed. It is apples to oranges but the article does an excellent job showing when/why to use each one. I believe the conclusion was spot on and IMO combining the stability of Elixir/BEAM with the performance of Go is the best of both worlds.
dashoffset··on I returned my 2016 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar
The only issue I have with it is the alignment.
dashoffset··on Newest MacBook Pro is the first MacBook not recommended by Consumer Reports
I really hope that better "Unix with good UI" laptops will exist in the future. Right now, I'd rather buy a 2015 MBP than any of those "Dev Edition" machines.
dashoffset··on Newest MacBook Pro is the first MacBook not recommended by Consumer Reports
Yeah, people seem to be calling the 2016 models tbMBP and ntbMBP.
dashoffset··on Pebble's next step
I'm really thinking about returning mine. I just don't know what I would get instead since the competition is either crap or crazy expensive.
dashoffset··on Doom on the MacBook Pro Touch Bar [video]
If it can run a Turing machine simulator, then it's a real computer.
dashoffset··on New MacBook Pro outsold every competing laptop in just five days
Sure. But it's far from being the failure predicted by the specialists and media in general right after Apple announced them.
dashoffset··on What the Heck Is Happening at Apple?
What frustrates me the most is that Apple no longer is making a product that I like but no one else is. Every single laptop model in the market lacks at least one feature that's essential to me.

> Just like the classic iPod.

I don't think the classic iPod is a good example here, the iPod line still exists. I think something similar might happen with the Mac line, we might see the end of the Mac Pro, Mac mini and even the iMac (less likely). But I don't see the Macbook and Macbook Pro going anywhere soon.

dashoffset··on Images of New MacBook Pro with Magic Toolbar Leaked in MacOS Sierra 10.12.1
Agreed. I was not criticising Apple, by the way.

It's easier when you control the OS and the hardware.
dashoffset··on Update on Soylent Bar
I think it tastes like a Mocha flavoured protein shake.
dashoffset··on Update on Soylent Bar
Yep. I buy one box of Coffiest (12 bottles) per month. I usually drink them before I go swim early in the morning (2-3 times a week). Then, when I come back I get a regular breakfast. And I really enjoy the taste, so... none of the arguments apply.
dashoffset··on No, self-driving cars are not a substitute for a functional rail system
> People like driving themselves

I love to drive on a highway, but I hate to drive in the city. I'd easily give up on the former to get rid of the latter.
