dasKrokodil··on Cannabis use produces persistent cognitive impairments: meta review
Yes, this is a big difference between North America and Europe. I've never understood why (and consider it to be a big mistake), but for some reason most potheads in Europe mix their weed and hash with tobacco.

Just like with the all the other stuff they are promising right now: I'll believe it when I see it. Talk is cheap.
dasKrokodil··on SF suspends cannabis tax to help dispensaries compete with drug dealers
Here in Europe, there have been a lot of cases where sort-of-legal CBD weed was laced with sort-of-legal synthetic cannabinoids, which are essentially research chemicals (i.e. nobody really knows about their long-term effects and risks). If it's done right, the end result is not easily distinguishable from the real thing, but it's cheaper and safer to obtain for the dealers.
dasKrokodil··on Upcoming German Government Coalition Agrees on Legalizing Cannabis
> Where will they get the cannabis from? they don't have enough lands, import from the US/Canada i bet? ;)

"they don't have enough lands"? Are you sure about that? Given that less than 10% of Germans consume cannabis on a regular basis, I don't think you'd need all that much land to supply them all with generous amounts of weed. Also, since weed is going to be quite a profitable crop, I'm pretty sure some farmers will be eager to cease their corn/wheat/whatever production for it.

dasKrokodil··on Upcoming German Government Coalition Agrees on Legalizing Cannabis
I'll believe it as soon as I hold the first legal buds in my hand. Until then, I'll remain cautiously optimistic.

I think it's still a little fishy that none of the articles mentions anything about the supply chain. Also, nothing about home growing or how DUI will be handled.

dasKrokodil··on Take-Two Sues Enthusiasts Behind GTA Fan Projects Re3 and ReVC
> You can release a remaster of an old game, but any reverse-engineered version would be competing with it.

Technically, that's correct of course. But realistically, how many people will build one of these projects from the source code they obtained from GitHub, download the game assets from somewhere and spend a lot of time to make it all work on their machine instead of just buying the remastered version? Some, sure, but I don't see Rockstar losing a lot of money here.

If I were in their shoes I would simply hire these developers. And leave their fan projects alone as a sign of good-will and generosity towards the community.

dasKrokodil··on Take-Two Sues Enthusiasts Behind GTA Fan Projects Re3 and ReVC
Man, regardless of who is in the right legally, I wish these big corporations had a better sense of humor and would understand and appreciate that the people who go to these lengths to understand and recreate the original code aren't their enemies, but their biggest fans.

dasKrokodil··on Ask HN: Which vintage computers do you find interesting?
I'm a big fan of Apple IIs, as an Apple //e was the first computer I've ever used as a child. When I got a little older and read about its hardware, I was really impressed by the amount of trickery involved to make the graphics and the disk drive work.
dasKrokodil··on Twike
There is a very good forum: velomobilforum.de

It's in German, but you can ask questions in English and they will usually be answered in English as well.

As for your question about which models are well designed, I'd say that if you're looking for speed, the fast ones are the Milan SL, the Alpha 7 and the upcoming Snoek, but those are not suitable for tall and/or wide riders. If you don't fit into those, your best options for speed would be the Milan GT, the DFXL or the upcoming Alpha 9.

If you're rather looking for something more practical, the Quattrovelo is the way to go; it has four wheels and therefore a bigger and more usable luggage space, which can even be used to transport a small child.

dasKrokodil··on Toyota's 'hydrogen engine' car roars through 24-hour enduro
BMW had a car with a hydrogen ICE back in 2005:

Personally, I don't see the appeal, it seems to have most of the downsides of hydrogen fuel cells with no real upsides.

Very thirsty car, too.

dasKrokodil··on Ask HN: Are there any standard monochrome low resolution resolutions?
I think the 4x4 is legible only when you are already used to it and/or have the the full font as a reference. There are several letters and numbers which, when seen on their own, cannot be unambiguously deciphered.

dasKrokodil··on The Landlord's Game
Every time this comes up I wonder whether the Landlord's Game can be played with a regular Monopoly set. Is it just the rules that have changed, or did the original game also contain different pieces/cards?
