Except all the deaths after being vaccinated e.g. Astrazeneca but not exclusively.

Google needs to be reined in. They're running wild. Too arrogant, too powerful, too much influence. And actively evil.

dalu··on Google Play service fee reduced to 15% for the first $1M/year
Indeed. But suggesting to break Google apart nets in -4 karma on HN. smh.

Let's not even start with all the evil they've been doing in the recent years since Pichai Sundararajan took over.

Google has too much concentrated power and it is a monopoly. Search + Ads alone, a browser, a DNS network, an OS, cars, cloud. It's just the tip of the iceberg.

And it's using its influence exclusively for their own advantage and to crush people who oppose them.

dalu··on Google Play service fee reduced to 15% for the first $1M/year
That's exactly one of the reasons, but a representative one, why Google needs to be broken apart
dalu··on gRPC Is Easy to Misconfigure
How do you use a non-Google oidc idp though? That's the main thing keeping me away from it. You have the non-choice of using Google Auth or include the token in every request outside of credentials
dalu··on We Don’t Use Docker
I've been preaching for years and every time I do I receive a lot of hate, also misinformation like "with Docker you can scale out effortlessly" which isn't a Docker feat at all.

For Go I copywrite a systemd service, for js/html I write a client side bash script and use rsync and run commands via ssh.

I never needed Docker. All it does is complicate your life.

Oh and for the record, I don't use overpriced Cloud either.

dalu··on Goodbye MongoDB, Hello PostgreSQL (2015)
What the article fails to mention is that you can use as a disk backed in memory database/cluster. In a replicaset you can have e.g. 2 in memory nodes and 3 disk backed nodes. Postgres doesn't have that. I wish it did. Mysql has in memory tables. Postgres doesn't.

If I'm wrong please correct me.

dalu··on Goodbye MongoDB, Hello PostgreSQL (2015)
Redis is a key value store and not a database. Also I'd strongly disagree that it's used in most web projects. I have never, not a single time had the need to use Redis in 17 years of web development

There's that, but I usually think "Man I must've been really unfocused or otherwise distracted to write it like this" but then analyzing it, it starts make total sense. But there's also the opposite. Code where I can't believe I was so smart to write. And then I remember that I can solve any problem if I keep attacking it time and again and tune my brain to it.

My performance is like a wave, sometimes I'm riding it, sometimes I'm being overwhelmed by it.

dalu··on Ultima VIII – How to destroy a gaming franchise in one easy step
I tried to like it again and again but I just couldn't. It was always a super boring experience. I preferred Meridian 59 and later DAOC. EQ wasn't my thing either, so much downtime. 1 minute of fighting 5 minutes of waiting. UO endless whacking of rocks and chopping of wood. One time I did that 3 days only watching the screen and I wrote an automation script to do that. After that I never looked back.

Ultima Underworld however was awesome and when thinking back was a true gem.

dalu··on What If GitHub Is the Devil?
Until you get in conflict with Microsoft's friends like Google or the Go team for just wanting a more readable font and them starting a diffamation campaign against you. I was on Github for 7 years. Then I dared to not accept a no for an answer. The Go team made sure I was "flagged" with no ability to delete my account. The move away from github cost about 1500€ in time and because the account was flagged I had to provide credentials for EACH of the over 120 repositories I had there. I never talked to anyone with a name, only devsup or other fake named people. To this day the account isn't deleted, despite me telling them to delete it multiple times. When you hover over an @ mention the profile is visible. I have written to a GDPR watcher who only replied that their EU office was in the Netherlands and that they're an US company.

So apparently the EUGDPR doesn't mean shit when you're Microsoft.

This corrupt system is pissing me off.

This also made me delete all my accounts associated with Microsoft, like LinkedIn etc. Microsoft is evil and so is Google. They need to be broken up into smaller parts. They have too much power.

What also happened was Google then actively went after my adsense earnings. All of a sudden I received warnings and sites being deactivated for monetization. The webmaster console also started showing errors and my sites were delisted!

Because I didn't take no for an answer when Ian Lance Taylor spoke the verdict of God on the documentation needing a more readable font?

Fuck github and Microsoft and Google

dalu··on Protocols, Not Platforms: A Technological Approach to Free Speech (2019)
Yup. Ivory tower circle jerk HN.
dalu··on Software engineering topics I changed my mind on
That guy is a fruitcake. Pencil and paper are the best tools? I don't need other tools than my fingers, a keyboard and the IDE and sometimes a search engine they delivers relevant results.

That guy is not a developer and if he is he's not talented.

I would never hire someone like him. Pure waste of time reading this.

dalu··on Rust for Windows
Why would I ever write code on Windows if I don't have to because I'd be writing a Windows program?

Microsoft is anti freedom, anti developer.

Windows is only good for games. Real development happens on other platforms.

They bought github and turned it into something against the spirit of free software. First thing was to add deleting issues and comments.

Microsoft is evil. Always had been and if you trust them one bit you're a fool
