dablya··on Hackers leak Qantas data on 5M customers after ransom deadline passes
To the extent these situation are as illegal as property theft, public agencies tasked with law enforcement, like the police, are in the same position to secure your data as they are to secure your property, no?
dablya··on ECScape: Understanding IAM Privilege Boundaries in Amazon ECS
Not when the documentation states (before the recent change) "a container never has access to credentials that are intended for another container that belongs to another task"
dablya··on Goodbye Auth0
So... not really like having a lawyer on retainer?
dablya··on OpenTF announces fork of Terraform
I don't know that it's at all clear how successful Terraform would be if it started with a more restrictive license. I mean there is a reason why a lot of projects start out with a different license and only change to BSL once a certain level of popularity is achieved, right?
dablya··on Joel on Software: Birdcage liners
>What is he actually referring to?

I'm guessing this:

dablya··on States Push Back After Net Neutrality Repeal
To sum up... AEI, an ideologically conservative, non-partisan think-tank is defending a Republican-sponsored policy by interpreting the Commerce Clause in a manner that is antithetical to conservative ideology.

Am I missing something?

dablya··on What does code readability mean?
There is a difference between reading legacy code without empathy (sympathy? pretty sure it's empathy) and calling code equivalent of Macbeth as unreadable when Cliff's Notes would do...
dablya··on A Zero-Math Introduction to Markov Chain Monte Carlo Methods
If you're going to go for the "zero-math introduction", it seems only reasonable to expect some "glossing over [of] the actual explanation".
dablya··on A better way of validating an email address
Comment in the post says it all.
dablya··on Sign this petition to investigate MPAA for bribery
If this is Dodd's understanding of how congressmen work, I'd like to see an investigation into Dodd's time in congress. Who wrote him checks? What kind of attention he paid in return?
dablya··on Amazon Unveils $199 Kindle Fire Tablet
Maybe he was talking about this: http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2011/08/999-ebooks-lawsuit/al...
dablya··on The birth of the Kindle Tablet and the death of the public library
You can rent books from your public library and read them on the kindle...
dablya··on AT&T sues customers seeking to block T-Mobile deal
This is beautiful.
dablya··on Poll: Which smartphone platform do you own and use mainly?
I just got iPhone 3gs from my company. So far, I like my HTC EVO 4G better. Built in navigation system is not as good. Google voice integration is not as good. No swype. No way to tell if there is new mail just by looking at the phone. I can't even change the notification sound for new mail.

I wanted to hate this phone as soon as I found out my company was no longer going to support android phones connecting to exchange, and it's been easy to do so far...

dablya··on Amazon will end affiliate program in California if new law passes
They probably don't make enough from affiliate traffic to make up for the lost sales if they have to collect the tax.
dablya··on Who killed the netbook?
What about a used laptop?
dablya··on Netflix sued for lack of captions on streaming videos
"And most of us sane, rational people would opt not to give those discriminatory companies money."

I still remember all those "whites only" stores going out of business in the 50s...

dablya··on PopBooth: A Real Photo Booth powered by your iPhone/iPad
I was picturing an actual booth at a mall where instead of the camera you place your iphone into the camera slot, go into the booth, take 4 pics, get the print and keep the digital on your phone.
dablya··on Tell HN: Bitcoin currently trading for $30 USD
I feel like I should hurry up and act now...
dablya··on Amazon: Ponzi Scheme or Wal-Mart of the Web? (2000)
First few people in a Ponzi scheme make money as well...
dablya··on Ask HN: What books are you reading
Yet another example of a thread where seeing votes would be useful...
dablya··on Why LinkedIn Wasn't Scammed
Is it me or does the kitchen remodel analogy doesn't make his point at all... I mean if you sell 5% for 50k through your broker and it's trading at 100k the next day and you find out that the broker made it available to his best clients first... How would that not be a scam?
dablya··on Jason Calacanis is Wrong: Bitcoin is Greatest Hope for Liberty
None of this has anything to do with what OP was saying. This is the problem, taking an argument about anything and twisting yourself into a mental knot until you see it as an argument over FREEDOM.

"How can someone logically say they support freedom for some causes but not others..."

I'm against your having freedom to take my stuff. Are you saying I can't logically support other freedoms?

dablya··on Jason Calacanis is Wrong: Bitcoin is Greatest Hope for Liberty
"I'm reading your comments and trying to figure out if you support freedom or not..."

It's shit like this that makes it difficult to take libertarians seriously.

dablya··on Why Don’t We Video Chat More Often?
According to David Wallace Foster: http://www.martin-brown.net/downloads/DavidFosterWallace-Inf... (PDF)

:)

dablya··on Bloomberg: Sony attack gives Amazon a black eye
If the attack gives Amazon a black eye, imagine what it does to Turing and his universal computing machine.
dablya··on Apple's 30% vig for ebooks just killed the iFlow Reader app
It's more like buying an espresso machine from starbucks and then having starbucks demand 30% from any coffee producer whose coffee is used to make espressos.
dablya··on [dead]
Looks to be specifically about itsnat.
dablya··on E-Books and Pricing -- is $99.99 Okay?
He should have also had 2 confused looking developers sharing a keyboard with a stack of "those other" agile books. Then, magically, they find this book, and all of a sudden, they're just pair programming away :)
dablya··on E-Books and Pricing -- is $99.99 Okay?
"2) If you pay that much you're more likely to pay attention to what I say"

I have a treadmill and a gym membership that beg to differ.

"3) Each sale is more of a significant event for both the author and the reader, ie, if you don't like it you're more likely to complain, which is a good thing"

I don't get it... I should pay more to ensure that I complain if it's bad?
