I was surprised to learn the extent of what is a valid local-part (something+else in your example) of an email. Can have two dots in sequence if the local-part is quoted, and support for non alphanumeric characters like !#$%&'*+-/=?^_`{|}~; if the local-part is quoted, comments with parentheses. And it could be case sensitive.

Caffeine naps are awesome, you just have to fall asleep before the caffeine wakes you up, but you wake up caffeinated. If I do it too tired though, I can sleep past my alarm, caffeine won't necessarily wake me up from a sleep, but will make me feel very groggy if I don't wake up before it's peak is passed.

Supported in what sense? I meant that you could pay Ubuntu for support beyond it being pre-baked into the distro, which seems rare if not exclusive to Ubuntu.

cyberbanjo··on Linux for schools: why use Ubuntu for education
Most adults also use mobile OS which are needlessly restrictive in terms of productivity software, even compared to Ubuntu, so it can't be just that or we would put the kids on Android and iPhone, don't all/99% adults use them?

EDIT: also how do you not think that Ubuntu using kids won't go on to use this free tooling in the future? MS spends a ton to target the education market because they know that you can get kids hooked early you get easier wins.

cyberbanjo··on Linux for schools: why use Ubuntu for education

I have seen that, and that's partially why it seemed so confusing to me but at least one difference is

  The ForEach-Object cmdlet works much like the Foreach statement, except that you can't pipe input to a Foreach statement. For more information about the Foreach statement, see about_Foreach.

And another appears to be performance

KDE Connect is a standalone multi platform application, you don't have to run KDE to use it (I don't).

Installing the gnome alternative was one package and I killed X and started gnome-shell to test gsconnect it appears to pair and allow remote input from my phone to my PC and well enough, what doesn't work for you?

cyberbanjo··on Why I develop on Windows
IMHO if you are already fluent in bash and aren't running or administering windows machines, there's not much point to switch. And I personally think PowerShell is nicer, but like 10% not 10x, and they do the same things. If you know some bash though, googling PowerShell and the bash command has been pretty productive for my learning.
cyberbanjo··on Why I develop on Windows
Sometimes a cliche is a cliche for a reason.

I certainly felt the hostility when I discovered the preloaded apps and ads in my Win11 install that aren't included in the much more expensive enterprise version.

cyberbanjo··on Why I develop on Windows
popd and pushd are aliases for Pop-Location and Push-Location, so they are the PowerShell equivalent. Unsure about dir -v.

dir itself is an alias for Get-ChildItem, but I don't know about -v (natural sort of version number)

cyberbanjo··on Why I develop on Windows
I'm still a PowerShell novice, but I believe ForEach-Object and ForEach are subtly different, and PowerShell has classic For(Init; Condition; Increment) loops also but it's even more different than those two.
cyberbanjo··on Why I develop on Windows
At least one subtle difference, is a bare scope block like TFA has, will print out everything in it instead of the output you would expect, where as Bash behaves more like Invoke-Command -ScriptBlock {}.

Compare:

  PS /home/me> {
  >>     $Env:MYSQL_HOST = "MyHost.com";
  >>     $Env:MYSQL_USER = "MyUser";
  >>     java -jar myprogram.jar;

    $Env:MYSQL_HOST = "MyHost.com";
    $Env:MYSQL_USER = "MyUser";
    java -jar myprogram.jar;

  PS /home/me> Invoke-Command -ScriptBlock {
  >>     $Env:MYSQL_HOST = "MyHost.com";
  >>     $Env:MYSQL_USER = "MyUser";
  >>     java -jar myprogram.jar;
