cybarDOTlive··on Ask HN: Did YouTube start recommending more short videos to you out of nowhere?
you should use the blocktube browser app, it has a setting where you'll only see videos over X seconds, minutes, or under X seconds, minutes, etc.
cybarDOTlive··on Ask HN: What features are you looking for in a note-taking app?
Probably just personal preference actually, I don't even end up using the eraser on a pencil. But it seems lighter, less pressure needs to be applied to write with it. Similar to why people that type a lot prefer a mechanical keyboard? The words just come out a lot easier, in my experience.
cybarDOTlive··on Ask HN: What features are you looking for in a note-taking app?
Just wanted to leave a reminder that pencil is better than pen for note-taking. And paper is better than screen.

My flow is so much better with a pencil and paper, and then I just transfer the organized meat onto a screen, only after I'm satisfied. Working first by typing into a note-taking app is counter productive, your brain doesn't want to work like that. It wants to scribble, doodle, draw arrows pointing to stuff.

cybarDOTlive··on Discord is a black hole for information
I was just interested in learning about a micro blogging project from Twitter and their blog is basically empty, but the discord has a lot of activity. It's a bit jarring to see these professionals interacting on a gaming platform, and adds a lot of friction for me personally. I'm really interested in the technology and updates but not enough to sift through their chitchatting. No offense.

cybarDOTlive··on DEF CON bans social engineering expert Chris Hadnagy
DEF CON has been a joke for awhile. It almost seems like American technologists are being destined to fail and outplayed by other nations. Too much dual citizen traitors in your government fellahs.
cybarDOTlive··on An Ode to Chocolate Chip Ice Cream
one of the worst pieces of content i've seen shared here
cybarDOTlive··on Ask HN: What is your “I don't care if this succeeds” project?
This is really cool! Love the minimal design. Also I'm a fan of this as a form of article / content generation. Where an article is created by a team, as a collaborative effort, organized and started by an editor of some sort.

Think of how many interesting conversations happen in walled gardens like slack, telegram, discord. Very thoughtful and in-depth sharing from users that would most likely be valuable for others to read. And valuable for these people themselves to re-read in the future at a specific easily accessible / shareable url.

The reason these people share in the walled gardens is because it's a conversational / social atmosphere, not necessarily because it's a private discord server (IMO). And it's just that the walled gardens have become the popular place for discussing things. So it's more natural. This is to say I don't think people would be against having their conversations being in public, searchable, like taaalk is trying to do. I think a lot of people would prefer it, professional types. People who use these communities to learn and develop. Rather than the anonymous s*#@ posters who don't really leave a trail or anything valuable either.

cybarDOTlive··on Ask HN: What is your “I don't care if this succeeds” project?
Can I see yours, I want to do it too!
cybarDOTlive··on Ask HN: Article aggregators that you enjoy?
I guess I should've used an example in my post because I think you are confused. I wasn't talking about RSS clients or anything really to do with RSS as a user. The RSS are ways for the website maintainers to get new content and then they organize it around a particular subject.

Here's a great example of one of the best websites that aggregates many different topics based on the most popular and innovative blogs in their subjects.

cybarDOTlive··on Ask HN: What's going to replace Facebook as the quintessential social media app?
this has already happened thats why fb moved ship to instagram. but now all these apps are dying to tiktok. it's all bad.
cybarDOTlive··on Ask HN: Article aggregators that you enjoy?
A big problem with these aggregates is there is just too much content, say you were getting your stuff from RSS feeds and google search alerts. Automatically organizing it or applying labels to the data is something that will help a lot.
cybarDOTlive··on Ask HN: What is your “I don't care if this succeeds” project?
yes i think a lot of posters are just using this as an advertising space. a lot of posts have contained levels of desperation, implying they do care.
cybarDOTlive··on Show HN: A Hacker News mobile app with crowdsourced images and subtitles
Card list is nice so that you can theoretically come back to where you left in the unreads. Though I havent used this software.
cybarDOTlive··on Ask HN: How do you fight pandemic of YouTube vlogging?
blocktube browser app
cybarDOTlive··on Ask HN: How would you convince a client to go through digital transformation?
It will make them more. Their competitors are eating their lunch. Websites act as 24/7 sales people (boomers like the idea of that).
cybarDOTlive··on Extremist content on Reddit, Discord worrying trend for young adults in India
What?
cybarDOTlive··on [dead]
There's thousands of shitty landlords in NY, try something more meaningful this just comes off as vanity.

edit: and by do something more meaningful i meant, activism to fight against all the poor landlords or something, rather than just this ego project.

cybarDOTlive··on [dead]
This can be really insulting, ascribing negative stereotypes to people and associating them with fictional characters.

Like when people went after J.K. Rowling for her "anti semitic depictions of jews". When she just made some greedy goblin characters and other people created the connection in their own minds.

cybarDOTlive··on The Facebook Text Prompt Zombie Land
I was always fascinated by this stuff too, it's pretty blatant once you recognize it. And then you lose hope in humanity seeing all the people replying.

>It is important to appreciate that if masks contained filters capable of trapping viruses, the peripheral gaps around the masks would continue to permit the inhalation of unfiltered air and aerosols.

We all made a bunch of mask makers rich for no reason. Good thing I never wore one.

Also I remember seeing a video of some of these disposable masks being created in absolute squalor conditions in a third world country, newly assembled ones being thrown on a grimy pile in the floor. That's where your masks are from.

cybarDOTlive··on Ask HN: Has Mike Lindell, the “My Pillow” guy hit the ultimate sales strategy?
It's a good way to sell a commodity for sure, where no one really cares about the pillow. But they may buy it from you because they need one anyway and they enjoy your personality / the entertainment value you provide.
cybarDOTlive··on High degree of overlap between r/poor and crypto subreddits
No wonder they're poor!
cybarDOTlive··on Reddit ‘antiwork’ forum booms as millions of Americans quit jobs
It's not an overstepping at all, reddit has and always will be authoritarian. They will always be political. They banned whitebeautyart because it invoked a feeling of honor, tradition.

They won't ban antiwork because it encourages giving up, consooming, laziness, weakness. Exactly the kind of NPC audience reddit milks money off of. Ad revenue, reddit gold, buying emojis, constant scrooolllling, etc.

You are just naive, there will always be authoritarianism, forever. You're just on the receiving end or the administrating end.

cybarDOTlive··on Ask HN: Does anyone on here think climate change isn’t a problem?
I think it is a problem however, my country is insignificant in regards to global pollution levels. So any seemingly organic movements that want to work on our global impact as Canadians, are operating from a place of naivete at best or corruption at worst.

All these types of climate change policies will do is make it harder for small businesses to operate, while more and more bureaucracy and tax is applied to them. That the "too big to fail" companies can continue to ignore and skate by.

Point is, most of the first world countries are not significant polluters. It is China, India, who are contributing the majority of pollution. The more we pretend this isn't the case, and the more we pretend like putting our trash into two colored boxed is going to stop these beasts, the more sterilized we become.

cybarDOTlive··on Reddit ‘antiwork’ forum booms as millions of Americans quit jobs
Though I'm not one to generally say this or that subreddit should be banned, reddit has destroyed many a thousand times less subversive ones than this in the past, like /r/whitebeautyart. So I don't see why this kind of nihilistic, apathetic, passive attitude should be encouraged.

Yes, something like this actually deserves to be removed, especially when it reaches critical mass. Because it does more harm than good to the extent that yeah american youth are just going to get dominated on a global field if most of our zoomer ADHD youth equate having a boss to slavery.

And it doesn't matter at all how few people may or may not participate in this particular subreddit. This is the third time I've seen a post about the subreddit in mainstream news. It's popular and the sentiments are only going to grow with more time and more encouragement, to our detriment.

cybarDOTlive··on Fact check: Employees asked to wear masks during Zoom meeting is satirical
Millions were killed by a lot of things this year. Front page of HN right now is an article about how youth suicide attempts increased majorly because of this "hoax". In my neck of the woods, heroin overdoses have done more damage than any covid related flus, by a long-shot.

If it's so easy for people like me to be fine and that it's not unheard of that we're not going to die. Maybe you should swallow your pride and realize my instincts were correct to not wear one, and yours were wrong to blindly trust authority and SCIENCCEEEE. Now where are we? 2 years into 2 weeks to flatten the curve.

cybarDOTlive··on People who are obsessed with celebrities may be less intelligent, study suggests
The audience is not intelligent enough to see the irony.
