culopatin··on People who can't picture anything are rewriting the science of imagination
Aphantastic people of HN. Do you struggle remembering things in detail? My gfs family is all aohantastic and they just realized that it’s why they tell stories that are all a bit inaccurate. They remember the story but when placement, colors, shapes, etc come up, they can’t really tell you what it was. Comes up in weird ways

I can personally watch a movie in my head, eyes open and I’m super not artistic but very engineer oriented. To the point that I realized I should be dropping software for mech eng
culopatin··on Google has abandoned Google News?
I’ve never heard someone claim windows peaked at 8, at least 7.
culopatin··on New Framework Desktop Option with AMD Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 and 192GB Memory
What’s stopping you from building that yourself instead of having to go through Framework?
culopatin··on Mayor Mamdani Says Landlords Can't Use AI Images to Advertise
Square footage is very much a lie in San Francisco as well
culopatin··on Ask HN: Is it just me, or is software buggier across the board?
Yes, I initially jumped from Android to iPhone back in 2019 or so because I felt like the experience was much more stable and it just worked, smooth, no issues, kinda boring but in a good adult way. Now every interaction makes me want to throw the phone out the window. If it’s not just blank, the keyboard doesn’t come up, the navbar in Safari sometimes is there, sometimes it’s a blank rectangle, etc. “ask your developer to update the apps to run well in iOS 26” is such a garbage response. We didn’t need to break everything just to have some glass simulations that make everything slower and add no value.

Google Home: holy shit dude. It was a mostly working thing. Absolutely unusable with Gemini. Will get the transcript right 15% of the time. Can’t even ask for the weather.

Roku: Netflix playing in the background but I’m still in the main menu.

I can go on

culopatin··on Argentina court recognizes two goldfish as sentient beings with rights
Well someone has to sue first no? The courts don’t go out telling people what to do. They react to claims.
culopatin··on Migrating a production AI agent to GPT-5.6: 2.2x faster, 27% cheaper
Maybe if instead we stopped engaging they would wonder why
culopatin··on Why American ambulance rides are so expensive
You’re getting in an ambulance, not calling a cab. You’re probably unconscious, maybe at least disoriented, overwhelmed, concerned about what’s happening more than doing math. Also you’re there on the floor bleeding, what’s your alternative? “Nah don’t worry, I’ll figure out this exposed fracture in the uber, I got points with them so it’s cheaper”?
culopatin··on Why American ambulance rides are so expensive
Even with insurance all these companies will fight with each other to find excuses to say it’s not their responsibility and send you letters non stop saying things like “oh you paid for the van, I’m just the nurse, it’s separate” or “oh yeah you paid for the hallway in the hospital but the ct scan person is a contractor, you owe them 3k”. System could not be more broken
culopatin··on Why American ambulance rides are so expensive
Yeah my mom got billed 9k a few months ago from SFO to one of the south sf hospitals. Neck brace and supervision was all that was needed. Basically an expensive uber ride.
culopatin··on Ryanair Passenger Sucked Toward Broken Window After Midair Engine Failure
I wonder if Ryanair is going to charge them for being oversized to fit through their designated window.
culopatin··on Canada's only watchmaking school still ticking after 80 years
Can one end up working for TAG out of this for example? What does it take for that career ladder to happen?
culopatin··on Canada's only watchmaking school still ticking after 80 years
Is this still a viable career?
culopatin··on Tell HN: Who wants to be hired" posts outpace "Who's hiring" 2 to 1
What I noticed lately is that everyone wants a principal or staff SWE. So much that I even think the titles are getting diluted.
culopatin··on Automated Accounting, Financial Reporting and Tax Management
I think this should be a show HN? But if not a few things anyway. Your comments show as dead, just so you know. Idk why. Your website is unusable in my phone, crawls to a stop, maybe something in the complex background if rendered? Idk. I’m interested but can’t find out more info because of this lol.

culopatin··on GLM-5.2 – How to Run Locally
How’s running models with AMD these days?
culopatin··on Slate EV truck starts at $24,950
And yet half what they charge in some areas of California
culopatin··on Slow breathing modulates brain function and risk behavior
Makes sense to me. The only way I can dip in a snow melt lake is if I slow down my breathing, slow my thinking and dip.
culopatin··on The frontier is open-source today
How much of why glam 5.2 is good today is due to open source contributions? Is the two-way-street-ness of it already pushing it to be better or so far it’s mostly a nice to have?
culopatin··on Ask HN: Want to build something open source on nights and weekends together?
Would help to know what fields you’re interested in or what problems you want to solve. No one is going to have much consistency or accountability working on things they don’t care about
culopatin··on How do you design a $30k electric pickup? Inside Ford's skunkworks
Even if objectively one could agree that currently the products from china are better than the US ones, all the “China so good now” stuff is starting to sound like straight up in your face propaganda.
culopatin··on Federal judge blocks H1B visa $100K fee
And who pays that extra? Who are you taxing in the middle of nowhere?
culopatin··on Federal judge blocks H1B visa $100K fee
It’s a matter of incentives. The avg American grows up with certain “American dream” that clashes with that rural America life. There is no incentive to leave everything behind and go be basically alone. Immigrants have a “lower” baseline or just want the experience of being abroad, or are willing to put up with rural living because from wherever they are, it looks better. You’d have to entice a city teacher to move to rural America.

You’ll say “pay them more”. But who are you taxing more? Because no one is happy when the gov starts looking at being more efficient and starts laying off some admin people either.

culopatin··on Federal judge blocks H1B visa $100K fee
But evidently they don’t want to move to rural America.

culopatin··on I built a ceiling projection mapping of the planes flying over my house
I thought the same exact thing and I thought that I would love a sky projection on my ceiling
culopatin··on What if remote working, not AI, is to blame for weak junior hiring?
I have the same experience. Getting hired with this background is weird. I don’t know how confident I should or shouldn’t be. And I wasn’t in consulting until recently. I like to put the focus on understanding the end to end workflows more than spending time worrying about my solution being the absolute best that would make HN drool over though
culopatin··on It's hard to justify buying a Framework 12
Didnt really need any. I’m still using my M1 Pro from when it was released. My mom using the oldest Air now.
