culanuchachamim··on The West forgot how to make things, now it’s forgetting how to code
Well, I think it's a good sign that society forgot how to make weapons. The sad thing is that they need to re-learn again.
culanuchachamim··on I resigned from OpenAI
It's not that complicated... People have much more depth and sides than one particular idea or principle that they have (specially if you don't know all the context that force them to chose one decsion over another). I'm sure Sam in many ways he's also a great person, so in that case you judging the idea and not the person.
culanuchachamim··on Icons in Menus Everywhere – Send Help
Maybe im a weirdo and maybe I'll get dowvoted... But I only feel gratitude to the UI designers and the digital artists that they only think how to make it better for the user both in terms of creating a communication that uses less symbols per word and a more pleasent view for our eyes.

I also learned here that no matter your intentions and how much good you are going to do,and how many people like it, you always find someone not confortable (with his right point of view).

The fact that millions of users and millions of designers choose this style, for a long period of time now, it means that for most of them it make sense.

(Sometimes millions of users are screw up by bad designs, but usually is for a short period and by a handful of developers).

Things that consume energy and don't help life don't have a long life, that's what we learnt in biology.

culanuchachamim··on Reverse engineering a $1B Legal AI tool exposed 100k+ confidential files
-The Filevine team was responsive, professional, and took the findings seriously throughout the disclosure process. They acknowledged the severity, worked to remediate the issues, allowed responsible disclosure, and maintained clear communication. This is another great example of how organizations should handle security disclosures.

In the same tenure I think that a professional etical hacker or a curious fellow that is poking around with no harm intent, shouldn't disclose the name of the company that had a security issue if they resolve it professionally.

You can write the same blog post without mentioning that it was Filevine.

If they didn't take care of the incident that's a different story...

culanuchachamim··on Israel demanded Google and Amazon use secret 'wink' to sidestep legal orders
One thing I don't understand. Israel probably have huge amount of data in Google and Amazon. What is the gain from telling Israel that there is a country that issue an order about some of their data. What data? What's the order about? Etc, many crucial details are missing for Israel be able to do something....

culanuchachamim··on Carl Sagan Predicts the Decline of America (1995)
-Sagan’s 1995 predictions are now being heralded as prophetic. As Director of Public Radio International’s Science Friday, Charles Bergquist tweeted, “Carl Sagan had either a time machine or a crystal ball.”

Prophetic, time machine, crystal call.

That's exactly the lenguage of darkness and superstition...

culanuchachamim··on The bill of materials for the Apple headset leaked
I love this thread, everyone is sharing their expert opinion on something that is right down the corner. It would be a great exercise to review this thread 6 months after the headset is on the market, and see the true quality of hn on forecasting.

culanuchachamim··on Ask HN: What’s the Scientific Consensus on Gravitons?
Wikipedia: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graviton

ChatGPT:

Scientific Consensus on Gravitons

Gravitons are hypothetical particles that have been proposed as the carrier particles of the gravitational force, similar to how photons are the carrier particles of the electromagnetic force. The existence of gravitons is a prediction of certain theories of quantum gravity, which attempt to merge the principles of quantum mechanics with those of general relativity. However, gravitons have not yet been directly observed, and there is currently no experimental evidence for their existence.

The scientific community has not reached a consensus on the existence of gravitons. Some physicists believe that gravitons may be an important component of a theory of quantum gravity, while others remain skeptical. There are also ongoing debates about the properties that gravitons would have if they do exist, and about how they might be detected.

It is worth noting that the concept of gravitons is still highly theoretical and remains an active area of research in physics. While it is possible that the existence of gravitons may eventually be confirmed through experimental observations, at this point there is not yet sufficient evidence to conclusively establish their existence.

culanuchachamim··on Productivity Blocker
I love how it looks that who wrote this got inspired more and more while writing this.

He starts with things that you say: Wow, amazing, but totally logical.

The he continues with things that you say: Wow, no waaay, Musk is really that crazy?

And by the end (the slave/master) you realize it's sarcasm.

But hilarious!

culanuchachamim··on Show HN: We scaled Git to support 1 TB repos
Still, 1TB?

Once you get to that amount of images it would be much easy to manage it with some files storage solution.

Or I'm missing something important?

culanuchachamim··on Show HN: We scaled Git to support 1 TB repos
Maybe a silly question:

Why do you need 1Tb for repos? What do you store inside, besides code and some images?

culanuchachamim··on Tech aims to block hatching of billions of male chicks fated for culling (2021)

culanuchachamim··on Ask HN: Should HN ban ChatGPT/generated responses?
For me it happend when I asked to write a function using BigQuery, it wrote a function that made a lot of sense but was wrong, because the command didn't exist in BigQuery. When I replay that the function didn't work, it told me, something like this: You right the function that I used it was only working on beta mode, now you have to use the following.... And again it was wrong. I made a little research and never was such a beta commandm.. And then I got that it just makes up things that it don't know, but says it with authority.
