crb002··on Debian Packages That Need Lovin'
Resorted by installs https://wnpp.debian.net/?page=1&sort=installs%2Fdesc
crb002··on Analysis: Carmakers wake up to new pecking order as chip crunch intensifies
They saw Munro's video and shart themselves. Of course they all knew it from public FCC teardowns but Munro really twisted the knife to their investors. https://youtu.be/NOjvYOEaja4?t=88
crb002··on Monolith First (2015)
Using Haskell style IO types - couldn't we lift and shift anything at build time between a network call and a function call? Monolith that could shard at any function boundary into microservices.
crb002··on Federal Charges Against Stanford University Researcher Expanded
Seems a bit racist. Israel/Finland/Germany all have universal conscription so they don't get harassed like the Chinese.
crb002··on IKEA to discontinue its annual catalog, ending a 70-year run
They could have charged a fee high enough to plant two trees for every one that went into the catalog. Sears died when the catalog did - but with IKEA I have never seen the catalog so maybe it is waste.
crb002··on Kubernetes Failure Stories
I don't get k8s when you pay for EC2/Lambda. Why add another layer of complexity?
crb002··on Mathematician Solves Sensitivity Conjecture in Two Pages (2019)
Is there an OEIS sequence? Seems like something there should be nice combinatorial formulas for at the different levels of sensitivity.
crb002··on Clubhouse Is Suggesting Users Invite Their Drug Dealers and Therapists
Both have wide social networks - legit marketing funnel.
crb002··on Farmers are having to hack their own tractors to make repairs
It's Qt on Linux just like Tesla. Builds take 40+ minutes even with ICECREAM. Even Deere developers have a hard time fixing issues. Both Deere and Tesla need to be fully open sourced in FCC filings modulo crypto keys.
crb002··on Don't Offer a Free Plan
Nothing is free. The free plan dogfoods new features ;)

My biggest issue is the free plan doesn't expose bad UI patterns in the payment path.

crb002··on Facebook Downgrades WikiLeaks Article Page
If forces them to explain. They have no legitimate explanation so it will be restored.

Take legal recourse on FB - they have a data center in Altoona, IA.

1) File an Iowa Civil Rights Commission Complaint for retaliation of fighting discrimination and on Julian's nationality. https://icrc.iowa.gov/file-complaint

2) File a criminal complaint with Altoona, IA police for unauthorized computer access. There is probable cause the person who blocked the account did so without legitimate authorization.

crb002··on Zero arrests in 6 months of health care professionals replacing police officers
I was detained 3x last summer in political retaliation under Iowa Code 229. Sheriff deputy takes you to the designated facility.

County hospitals are rife with abuse. Unjust detainments get billed to Medicaid for $$$.

crb002··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (February 2021)
Location: Des Moines, IA

Remote: Yes

Willing to relocate: depends

Technologies: AWS, Qt, Rails/Flask/Django/Spring, C/C++, SMT Solvers, some Rust

Résumé/CV:https://www.linkedin.com/in/chad-brewbaker-467a442

email: crb002@gmail.com

I ported Ruby 1.8 to the IBM BG/L supercomputer, and still enjoy writing self contented binaries for AWS Lambda/Batch. Last client project I did a lot of build engineering and developer experience (fast parallel builds/tests, a la carte EC2 batch instances for developers ...).

crb002··on TSMC's bet on global dominance pays off after decades of planning
Winne the Pooh threatened war unless Taiwan hands over their crown jewel. If they are smart they will ship old process nodes to the mainland so Xi has a PR win and they maintain business as usual
crb002··on Personal Memoirs of a Silicon Valley Tech Whore: Part 1
This makes the case for 20% work as a mental health issue.
crb002··on Naked shorting: The curious incident of the shares that didn't exist (2005)
When I was in PFG Marketer Services I saw million dollar double payout fuckups all the time and a shady SQL Server database for "manual over-rides" on commissions to brokers that seemed like an un-audited slush fund.
crb002··on New Book: Data-Oriented Programming
Making editorial suggestions on the zip file is hard.
crb002··on New Book: Data-Oriented Programming
Sweet! I pitched the idea to a Manning editor a few months ago in a different context - glad they found an author! Have a github repo?
crb002··on University of Leicester firing all pure math faculty
#3, which is close to #2 - vigilantism. It's ugly and leftists on campus have embraced it.
crb002··on GameStop Is Rage Against the Financial Machine
Reddit "wins" by buying enough to take GameStop private so they can exit in an orderly fashion 100% screwing the shorters and not letting Citadel front run the exist.

I think the GameStop CEO can offer up a class "R" share that retail investors will be happy with.

crb002··on Nq – A simple Unix job queue system
It is called GNU Make.
crb002··on Nq – A simple Unix job queue system
GNU Make could be extended for in flight addition/removal of tasks. No reason to re-invent Make just for interactivity.
crb002··on Why Create a New Unix Shell?
Performance or correctness. Giving bash/zsh a performant hash-table would trivially empower them without boiling the ocean.
crb002··on Gitlab is moving to a three-tier product subscription model
How much are 25 individual paid accounts?
crb002··on Gitlab is moving to a three-tier product subscription model
Does GitLab have an option to pick the major cloud data center it hosts in? Cross data center network transfer is a no-go.
crb002··on Gitlab is moving to a three-tier product subscription model
GitLab doesn't own Azure - they rent. Either they get repos in every major cloud data center or they lose on network transfer latency/cost.
crb002··on Finland has slashed homelessness; the rest of Europe is failing
No questions asked monastic living without any Jesus down your throat is rare. Only the homeless and wealthy can afford to walk from their apartment/mortgage for weeks without income.

I saw several women that were domestic abuse victims - their family labeled them as crazy because Iowa doesn't really have any emergency shelters to speak of.

crb002··on Future Plans for Autotools
Autotools is slow as balls - but then CMake configuration is slow too - a minute if I recall for llvm-project on my M1. Much of the modern Linux build issues are RPM vs DEB packages not playing nice. Rust Cargo has it's own issues with snowflake dependency hell instead of more generic libraries.

GNU Make is a different story. Easy to get core saturation for large workloads. Stanford GG allows you to massively distribute it to thousands of workers. Still very relevant.

crb002··on Finland has slashed homelessness; the rest of Europe is failing
I was taken political prisoner three times in the Broadlawns facility ran by Polk County Iowa - currently helping Federal Medicaid claw back the fraudulent $20k hospital bill. Lynchpins of the rampant political corruption is nepotism between Chief Justice Susan Larson Christensen/ brother 4th District Chief Judge Jeff Larson and Hon Mary Tabor/brother Chief Deputy Attorney General Eric Tabor.

What you speak of does exist, it's Medicaid - the issue is only in states like Iowa do you have such due process free statutes like Iowa Code 125/229 that magistrates can lock you up without solid evidence that the person is a true threat to themselves or others.
