crazysim··on The GitHub wiki is an anti-pattern (2022)
https://github-wiki-see.page/

I've been trying for years to get the contents indexed, accessible to search engines or even AI. When I started, no wiki was ever indexed but it seems GitHub backed off a bit since then. Still, there's a bunch that is still not indexed for various reasons with valuable data in them.

I do agree, most users should look into docs instead.

crazysim··on The GitHub wiki is an anti-pattern
It also needs to be non publically editable.

In other words, spiritually not a wiki.

crazysim··on Pandas Should Go Extinct
Am I crazy or did the OP swap the contents of the posts around accidentally?

crazysim··on ElevenLabs Music v2.5
It's interesting to see there are text differences between the audio and the blog post. At the point where it vocalizes unlimited downloads by Plus users, the text says 400. I wonder if that's hallucination or a post-music-generation edit.
crazysim··on Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
Where the AI going to get their 10 bucks from for SA?
crazysim··on Run macOS Software on Linux
While the productivity apps are mentioned in the other comments of this reply, games are another reason. There are far more games on Windows to port and handle than macOS games. And in that case, you got a financial desire in the form of Valve and its Steam store. macOS games tend to be ports from Windows and are usually less featureful.
crazysim··on The little-known winstart.bat batch file
Would HyperV and Virtualization Based Security be that take? I suppose it’s taken very far on Xbox and VBS is enabled by default on most Windows systems.
crazysim··on Accelerating GPT-5.6 Sol Ultrafast
GPT 5.6 Luna Ultrafast when?
crazysim··on OpenAI's New Device Will Be Hockey Puck-Sized and Cost over $300
Gotta start v1 somewhere and ChatGPT was and is a big enough threat to Google Search.
crazysim··on “Code was never the hard part” is an insult to all programmers
Wave waves at you from the grave.
crazysim··on Cloudflare OS: an open platform for agents, apps, and work
Why not a talk/demo video? Like Google Wave. Yeah I know that's probably not the best ~~success~~ example but it was a hell of a demo.
crazysim··on Branchless Rust: Making a Filter 4x Faster by Removing an If
Would PGO figure this out?
crazysim··on Gemini Code Assist will be shut down on July 17
Who's making the PR?

crazysim··on Running MicroVMs in Proxmox VE, the Easy Way
I gotta ask but is Forgejo a barely loading forge? GitHub, GitLab being a pig sure but Forgejo seem pretty snappy.
crazysim··on Slightly reducing the sloppiness of AI generated front end
https://www.mcmaster.com/ has a reputation
crazysim··on Mantine-datatable (and others) compromised – owner account suspended
It's a running a fork (codeberg specific) of a fork of gitea called forgejo (https://codeberg.org/forgejo/forgejo) so it's not surprising. The people behind it were a bit miffed at Gitea doing some questionable commercial endeavors in their view and also not dog-fooding Gitea for Gitea.
crazysim··on Mantine-datatable (and others) compromised – owner account suspended
codeberg

I had a repo with more than a dozen forks banned on GitHub for some unclear TOS violations. Ticket has been sitting for a week plus now, asking for clarification and guidance.

So, it lives in codeberg now. https://codeberg.org/nelsonjchen/op-replay-clipper

crazysim··on YSK: The Register is doing some report on Gemini API Key Compromises
For those not in the know, a lot of people used API keys for stuff like Google Maps and stuff.

And they didn't know it was also enabled for Gemini stuff.

Looks like they are looking into writing this up.

crazysim··on I designed Microsoft's EA channel in 2001. It's being dismantled in 2026
I think there are some who would probably argue the opposite about the users of news.ycombinator.com . It's an explanation for the $ in M$.
crazysim··on We found a stable Firefox identifier linking all your private Tor identities
Ah I should have been more specific and saying normal Tor users.
crazysim··on We found a stable Firefox identifier linking all your private Tor identities
This is great to hear. I wish the original article was more clear on that instead of a vague "they'll get to it" which has bad connotations.
crazysim··on We found a stable Firefox identifier linking all your private Tor identities
Are you really not sure? I'm pretty darn sure a lot of "normal" people don't know how to configure their systems to use a SOCKS proxy to use Tor.
crazysim··on We found a stable Firefox identifier linking all your private Tor identities
I would imagine most users of Tor are using Tor Browser. I am reading there was a responsible disclosure to Mozilla but is it me or did that section leave out when the Tor Project planned to respond or release a fixed Tor Browser? Do they like keep very close or is there a large lag?
crazysim··on I ported Mac OS X to the Nintendo Wii
Sometimes things aren't documented and sometimes they could be documented wrong.
crazysim··on Ubuntu 26.04 Ends 46 Years of Silent sudo Passwords
Oh yeah, I can see why some might freak out about that.
crazysim··on Ubuntu 26.04 Ends 46 Years of Silent sudo Passwords
Did that echo the password back on the screen or just asterisks?
crazysim··on Parallels confirms MacBook Neo can run Windows in a virtual machine
That's why I chose to specifically mention production. The developer boxes were to get macOS native stuff going but virtualization was not a priority.
crazysim··on Parallels confirms MacBook Neo can run Windows in a virtual machine
Yeah. It's the first production Mac using an A-chip and is a Mac that has had many things cut out for savings. The question is did Apple feature cut required functionality.
crazysim··on I asked Claude for 37,500 random names, and it can't stop saying Marcus
It certainly got Claude paid $27.58 towards the rent.
crazysim··on Antirender: remove the glossy shine on architectural renderings
It really tied the place together.
