My experiences took place in hospitals in and around the Philadelphia area, certainly not low tier.

Agreed, pretty much every hospital room I’ve been in has mystery stains on the ceiling. It’s so common that I’d point them out to my family members and we’d wonder out loud what the cause could have been.

Edit: there was even one room where I put on rubber gloves and used the disinfectant wipes from the janitor’s cart to clean dried blood from my IV pole and the bed rails.

Having spent many months of my life in hospital rooms, even just a brightly colored paint job really makes things feel better. A lot of older hospitals have very sterile, bland colors on the floors and walls that would make even a healthy happy human feel depressed.

I’d like to give it the HN equivalent of Reddit Gold... maybe HN could implement something along those lines but instead of keeping the money and removing ads, the money could get donated to something like the EFF?

What is Thiel’s current stake in $FB? I’m wondering if this was a play out of the GOP playbook, accusing your opponent of the things you’re actually doing.

The pizza delivery app Slice does something similar... they buy domains that look like they could be legitimate and then outrank the actual website of the small local pizza shops with SEO. Then they tack on additional Slice fees and send the order through to the pizza place. Here’s an example:

Most of these small pizza shops have no idea this is happening and Slice is just ripping off customers. They even claim listings or suggest edits on yelp, foursquare, google, etc. with their Slice domain so customers assume it’s the shop’s actual site. I wish someone from Yelp, Google, etc. would blacklist Slice sites and kill the company and their scammy business practices.

Edit: I forgot to mention they created fake phone numbers for the shops too which is what alerted me to this scam in the first place. I googled the number for Mario’s and called it but a young female answered the phone and I heard call center chatter in the background... normally when calling Mario’s one of the guys with a thick accent answers and speaks in broken English. I’ve never seen a single female employee work there in the 15 years I’ve been ordering from them. On top of it all, the delivery address got screwed up between my call in order that Slice intercepted and Slice then calling the actual Mario’s number to relay my order. Come to think of it, I payed with a credit card over the phone so Slice took my CC info and then relayed that as well... that doesn’t seem kosher.

(I now have the real Mario’s number stored as a contact in my phone.)

I also do the PiHole + Ubiquiti controller w/ PoE, it’s a cheaper and more robust solution to the CloudKeys!

Those prices are only for the first year, I recently learned that when my $39.99 100/100 plan jumped to $55, and the customer service rep said it will jump to $65 the third year.

19118 is listed as “later” but what does that realistically mean? Too many trees towering over rooftops in Chestnut Hill to provide coverage to most residents?

10 years ago a store near me was going out of business and had a 1 gallon jug of Peppermint Dr. Bronner’s for $22. I still have about 1/5 of it left!

I find Anker 24w fast charging bricks and 10’ lightening cables are a pretty reasonable way to quickly charge Apple devices while still using them. I bought a cheap 5w wireless charging pad to throw my phone on while I sleep.

That’s precisely the situation where I’d want a drop-off receipt just in case my package goes missing or magically opens itself.

It could even be 2 digits (the same 2 digits for everyone), you’re just looking to get their eyes on the email letting them know additional paid subscriptions are available on your website.

Most(every?) app that I’ve signed up for requires an email address. Some apps then send a verification or welcome email. If you mention and link to paid subscription upgrades in that email, will Apple pull your app?

Most people think it’s just a stomach ache or diarrhea. They don’t realize how severe and debilitating it can actually be because most people who have it don’t like to broadcast to the world that they’re shitting blood and mucus 30x a day.

As a mod for r/CrohnsDisease, it really sucks that this is how most people are first hearing about the disease. Those with IBD already have a difficult time with people not believing they’re sick or that symptoms aren’t that bad since they’re not visible. Now Crohn’s will be associated with this fool using it as an excuse to steal a bunch of money... such a huge disappointment.

The original Starseige:TRIBES let you play with up to 128 players. It was okay on dialup but my 10down/1up cable connection gave me consistent pings under 30. That was in 1999.

Updated to 12.1.4 today, started listening to an audiobook in the Audible app, paused it, went to home screen & locked phone, got in my car, plugged in USB/lightning cable, started car, audiobook automatically began playing.

I have had it default to Apple Music when doing the same thing as above but with the YouTube app. I think it has something to do with YT not allowing background audio playback unless you sub to Premium. Which reminds me how much I miss Jasmine and ProTube.

The first 5-10 years of Apple Retail were like the movie Empire Records... help the customer and have a fucking blast doing it. Rules? Not really. I worked there for almost 2 years and had a lot of fun solving unique consumer tech problems one on one with the customers. It was a very personal experience, customers knew our names, came back sometimes just to chat or bring us baked goods... maybe we’d go have a few beers on lunch break, smoke a little weed. Now when I walk into an Apple Store it feels like Best Buy.

Reddit is still great if you take the time to curate subreddits that pertain to your interests and you use a 3rd party app (Apollo is really fantastic.)

I mostly spend my time moderating r/CrohnsDisease and making sure the people who post there get at least one thoughtful reply. I browse r/all most days but rarely do I post content or comments outside of my main subs because there’s just so much toxicity on the platform.

I wish Alexis had been able to influence the core values of the company before leaving the second time, he seems like one of the few genuinely good people at that level of major tech companies these days. It’s a shame he’s moved on to other things.

To be fair, I needed an A on that project in order to get a B in the class for the year because my grades on tests/quizzes weren’t great due to my focus on computers.
