covercash··on Ask HN: What are you reading?
These are amazing but they've only done the first three books so far. Once they release them all it will be a good reason to revisit the series!
covercash··on 'You Can See Everything' Review: Nathan Fielder's Doc About Elizabeth Holmes
Or Charles Manson could weasel his way into existing startups, claim them as his own, become the richest man in the world, AND kill so many more people than he ever thought possible!

And they’re the exclusive fast food partner of Monopoly… so they have a Monopoly monopoly?

Tribes 1 looked so good thanks to Glide…
covercash··on Apple Studio Display and Studio Display XDR
I vaguely recall an Apple rumor from the last few months about 3 new display model numbers, 2 of them being 27" and one of them being 32"... so still possible a Pro Display XDR refresh is on the horizon.
covercash··on Neuroscientists track the neural activity underlying an “aha”
This word combines with Tim to make a meme.
covercash··on Trump pardons convicted Binance founder
We need them all gone. Anyone who makes "politician" a career is precisely the wrong type of person to be an elected official. It should never be about personal gain. Wipe them all out, implement campaign finance reform, set term limits, prioritize election security & availability...

We need a reset.

covercash··on Trump pardons convicted Binance founder
It's not enough. The only thing that might make a difference will get this comment removed. And we may have even passed the point for that to have an impact.
covercash··on Fire destroys S. Korean government's cloud storage system, no backups available
I would also be fine with US politicians and corporate executives landing in jail. At this point, any consequences will be more than they currently face.
covercash··on Fire destroys S. Korean government's cloud storage system, no backups available
If the US government and corporate executives had even half this level of shame, we'd have nobody left in those positions!
covercash··on Apple takes down ICE tracking apps after pressure from DOJ
I wish Steve was still around for these battles. Tim Cook is such a pussy.

DraftKings integration so your kid can gamble away all your money!
covercash··on Microsoft blocks Israel’s use of its tech in mass surveillance of Palestinians
> Perhaps the more confounding question remaining is "what was so different about the report from The Guardian".

I think timing. The world is finally ready to stop ignoring what Israel has been doing so it’s significantly easier for countries, companies, and even individuals to stand up, speak out, and take action.

Weird, pretty sure employees brought this to their attention a few times already…

covercash··on Ubiquiti launches UniFi OS Server for self-hosting
The idea that Ubiquiti pushes out buggy software as production-ready and that we're all their beta testers is a pretty common meme on their subreddit.
covercash··on Show HN: I built an LLM chat app because we shouldn't need 10 AI subscriptions
Tangentially related, but is there any sort of chat bot that will look at the query and suggest which LLM might be the best for that particular task?
covercash··on Anthropic cut up millions of used books, and downloaded 7M pirated ones – judge
When the rich and powerful face zero consequences for breaking laws and ignoring the social contracts that keep our society functioning, you wind up with extreme overcorrections. See Luigi.
covercash··on Michael Seibel is leaving Y Combinator
Or just local SF politics… the billionaire/VC obsession with SF politics is very odd and unhealthy from my outside perspective.

It could also be related to the libertarian utopian startup cities VCs are funding.

covercash··on Wall Street banks prepare to sell up to $3B in X loans next week
Why does he do a lot of the things he does? Ketamine.
covercash··on Walgreens replaced fridge doors with smart screens. It's now a $200M fiasco
The Cooler Screens CEO sounds like a “fake it till you make it at all costs” kind of guy just based on the allegations of fraud at his tea company and his conspiracy allegations at the Four Seasons interview. I’d be very wary of any data provided by his company indicating increased sales, it’s very easy to manipulate the excel data if nobody is verifying how the data was collected in the first place.
covercash··on Ask HN: Life-changing purchases since 2020? (Under $100 and under $1000)
Yes, sleep.me. I had their Ooler and recently upgraded to the Dock Pro.
covercash··on Ask HN: Life-changing purchases since 2020? (Under $100 and under $1000)
A cheaper alternative to EightSleep is Sleep.Me… same concept with a heated/cooled water circulator + mattress pad, and they have an “autopilot” add on. I just manually set my temp schedules based on the season since I don’t like subscriptions for stuff like that, and I don’t want my sleep data on their servers.
covercash··on Twitch blocks creating new accounts from Israeli IP's
I actually think that would be an apt term for every Twitter account promoting an alt coin…
covercash··on Twitch blocks creating new accounts from Israeli IP's
I imagine @dang is pretty on top of clapping antisemitic comments on this platform, he’s not one to mess around.

I worry that softening the definition of antisemitism by saying things border on it is ultimately weakening the severity of the accusation long term. Like bigot and pedo, antisemite will soon be relegated to just another empty accusation before long.

covercash··on Twitch blocks creating new accounts from Israeli IP's
If we’re getting specific, a botnet in the region creating accounts might trigger a precautionary lock down like this.
covercash··on Twitch blocks creating new accounts from Israeli IP's
What’s more likely, an Amazon owned company blocking Israeli accounts on moral/ethical grounds or some backend technical reason? My guess is the latter…
covercash··on Heart rate variability differs between smartwatch and clinical testing
VO2 max is only measured when you do a “brisk walk, hike or run outdoors” according to the Health app. So if you’re doing any other workout type it won’t measure this metric.
covercash··on MeTube: Self-hosted YouTube downloader
I think that one of these yt-dlp based servers wrapped in a dead simple PiHole-like imager and some nice front end client apps for playback could really take off in the same way PiHole did with less technical users.

Buy a Raspberry Pi, image the microSD card, select your favorite YT channels, install client apps… all your favorite YT content now available locally and ad free!

covercash··on CrowdStrike Update: Windows Bluescreen and Boot Loops
If this was a Japanese company, the entire c-suite would have committed seppuku by now.
covercash··on Blackmagic Cine Immersive Capture for Vision Pro 8160x7200 Resolution per Eye
